Radical Pakistani Clerics Call Bible Blasphemous, May Seek to Have it BannedAnti-Christian sentiment continues to grow in Pakistan, as a group of radical Islamic clerics is asking the nation’s Supreme Court to declare certain portions and passages of the Bible “blasphemous.” Why, you ask? Because these leaders view some biblical characters as “flawed.” If the court doesn’t comply, the clerics plan to petition to have the Bible formally banned in Pakistan. CNS News has more:

Citing Florida pastor Terry Jones’ Qur’an-burning act, the leader of the initiative, Abdul Rauf Farooqi, said the campaigners would like to pay back such “blasphemers” by doing the same to the Bible, but would not follow in their footsteps.

Instead, he and the other clerics in the campaign want Pakistan’s top court to rule that certain passages in the Bible are blasphemous, since they undermine prophets’ sanctity by portraying them as flawed or immoral.

Farooqi, who is leader of the Islamist organization JUI-S (Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Sami-ul-Haq group), said the “insertions” in the Bible were offensive to Muslims, who hold all prophets in high esteem.

Among the biblical figures viewed by Muslims as Islamic prophets are some whom the Bible clearly describes as behaving immorally, such as David, who coveted a man’s wife and so sent him to face certain death on the battle frontlines; and Solomon, who later in life sought out pagan women and their gods.

If the Supreme Court complies, there may be some major problems in store for the nation’s Christian minority. Even the Bible’s assertion that Jesus Christ is God would potentially be considered blasphemous and, thus, punishable. If an individual violates blasphemy laws in Pakistan, he or she may be put to death or face life behind bars.

Yesterday, we reported on allegations that Pakistani police refused to help a Christian woman was violently gang raped. The situation for Pakistan’s religious minority continues to deteriorate.

      The only ‘True Word’ is the Soul of Man and the ‘book’ which God prints is the Universe. Religions are a hijacking of ‘literacy’ in an attempt to fashion men into the image of men and NOT the free-ranging individual which naturally flows back to God.
      Everything was fine on Earth until writing was begun to be used as an instrument of enslavement to ideas. Kind of. In a way. But not really.

      @QUANTUMVERP- Why not stand with those who choose a different path instead of “enlightening” them? We have a common goal. Which is to defend each individual’s persuit of happiness.     This is ACTUALLY all a result of what people thousands of years ago did when they couldn’t explain everything they witnessed, and needed help with the lawlessness of their primitive societies so they wrote a book that made educated guessed about what was happening (pretty accurate sometimes) and how to act according to “god”. Do you think it’s a surprise that no MAJOR world religion has arisen in the past, oh say, 1,000 years? I don’t. Modern people won’t believe that BS… unless of course it’s an already established BS that people have been believing in for a thousand years or more. It’s like the story of Santa Claus, but for adults: “He sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake, he knows if you’ve been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake!” =D

      There were actually people before books were ever written. Do you know how old the oldest written deed (not a book) ever found is? 75,000 year ago, oldest deed.
      Man evolved from the womb of Nature, the dominion of God’s. Man was closer to God, a very long time ago. Really. On a quantum note, the nature of relationships has a quantum origin. I won’t elucidate it for you. So you don’t get to know it. My choice. At least not now.
      My point is, or is going to be, the writing of a book is not the worse part of the problem. The worse part of the problem is the bending of the minds reading the books to the presumed authority behind the writing of the book. Scientists, apparently guilty by association in their fight against religion, do the same thing as religious writers, only they set themselves up as the ‘most knowing’ beings in the Universe and say there is none beyond them, and they don’t mean us! Over the eternity the Universe has existed, there have developed in the threads of the dimensions of intelligence, beings of far greater intelligence than Man, especially the men who suck up to academia.
      Oh, I’m sorry, am I boring you? I see from your later post you are a simple-minded name-caller yourself! A very closed loop-back ego-system…

    Any of you can be convinced by your religions to do anything in the ‘name of God’. Give it a break!

    The religions of the middle east have basically succeeded at doing 2 things for the Almighty:

    1) Help populate the Afterlife with young bucks so it isn‘t too ’geriatric’. Understand?
    2) Keep people from knowing and therefore actually bothering God Himself. He’s busy, there are millions of planetary systems offering up product for Afterlife. He only has an I/Thou relationship with one person per planet. The rest are It/Thou relationships. Tough. Take what you get. Want eternal life? Nourish you Soul. Period. Religion is just corporation numero uno! Run! Run! Run!

    Do you think the Almighty, making a decision on the practicality of men from this planet achieving advanced civilization status and inter-galactic travel, would decide it is a good idea to send the likes of this planet out to ring bells all over the Universe?

    There is a very slight chance there will be life on this planet in a decade or two. Enjoy it now :)

      How about Athiests versus The reluctance to admit that they spew the same hatred that some who do not understand their own respective religions do? If you wish to continue with your diviseveness, you will no longer have a forum in which you can excersize your childhood demons. With the rewriting of distorted history, you would be surprised how history has been erased and almost totally destroyed.       Yes, I wish we could bring all our troops home and put them on our own southern border, but it’s not that simple. We are fighting a world war against Islamic extremists in some places and protecting South Korea and now Libya which I don’t agree with. But, I wish we could bring them all home. Why are we the worlds police, I guess because no one else will do it, Better us than China. If we weren‘t in Afghanistan and Pakistan I’m sure Al Quida would probably take over again and be much greater threat to the US. Better to get them over there. But the military industrial complex is way out of control and should be cut in unnecessary areas that will not compramise our security, like closing some bases in other countries, it really is too much.

      Well you have a “god” that is a pervert, a “prophet” that is a pervert, millions of followers that are perverts. Why would they have a problem with something that teaches truth, honesty, goodness and love? Oh I guess it would be because perversion and evil is a darkness that is not able to stand up to the light of love, goodness and purity, so they have to try and run away from it and try to keep it from coming around them and showing the world for what they are. Looking at it that way would explain it all. Besides their “god”, their prophet and all of their kool-aid drinking followers are all the children of satan and will be looked at accordingly on Judgement Day.

      What do all islamic regimes have in common? Please notice that first the Jews were run out of their homes in the Maghreb & Arabia and found refuge in Israel. Then the Hindus were run out of their homes and found refuge in India (call it Partition, if you must). Lately, it’s been Christians being run out of their homes in Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Pakistan, and Algeria to find refuge, where? Here? Israel? Europe?

      Surely this savagery is not pleasing to a holy and loving God.

      Pray for the muslims in those countries run by clerics infected w/this hatred. When they are done w/Jews and Christians, and Hindus, they will turn on one another.

      To understand why any group would want the bible (even among some extremist christian groups) to be banned and replaced with their own version of the faith, or lack of it, would be this word:

      Radical (insert appropriate faith or group here)!!!

      That clarifies their viewpoints across the board.

      How ’bout instead of “burning the Quran”, we BURN the 9/11 commission report, which was a flawed investigation, where one of the original chairmen RESIGNED calling it a “national scandal”.
      6 of the 10 commissioners have gone on record making contradictory statements about the validity of their so called investigation. Uhh…that’s a MAJORITY folks…

      Imagine if one of your loved ones was murdered, and the homicide detectives came back and said, “sorry, the people involved decided they weren’t going to tell the truth about what happened that day, it’s a scandal.” Whaaat?

      This flawed report was the BASIS for invading 2 countries, thousands of American casualties, Millions of Iraq/Afghan deaths, 10′s of thousands of wounded veterans, and TRILLIONS of dollars down the drain.

      And this is our one major weakness, which they fully exploit. We defend all ‘religions’, including islam. They use that to spread their agenda and grow their numbers in the US.

      Their silence is DEAFENING. (American muslims)

      Islam has centuries of history of attempting to convert countries, then, when they reach critical mass, they either seize control by majority, or by force if necessary.

      It‘s time to stop looking to the mythical ’moderate Muslim’ to get a handle of radicalism. Moderates may exist, but they seem to have no ability to counter, dampen or even much affect the fervor sweeping their country. 10 years ago Pakistan’s intelligence agency was supporting the organization which blew up 2000 year old Buddhist statues because it offended their sensibilities to acknowledge and accept that there were other forms of faith in the world. Now half their country are fellow travelers simply taking fostered and subsidized intolerance to the next logical step.

      Maybe it’s time we take India for our regional ally – and perhaps start thinking how much longer the world can ‘tolerate’ a formerly modernistic society undergoing total meltdown to possess nuclear weapons.
