Radio Host Calls Out ‘Idiot’ & ‘Moron’ Christians for HBO Boycott Over Maher’s Tebow Tweet

When Bill Maher tweeted a graphic message about Jesus and Tim Tebow on Saturday following a Broncos loss, many people were instantly disgusted. In case you missed it, the HBO host sent this comment:

Wow, Jesus just f**ked #TimTebow bad! And on Xmas Eve! Somewhere in hell Satan is tebowing, saying to Hitler “Hey, Buffalo’s killing them.”

As if that wasn’t controversial enough, the comments are now likely to gain fresh traction after comedian Jay Mohr called out Christians on Wednesday for threatening to boycott HBO. During a rant on the nationally syndicated and wildly popular “Jim Rome Show,” Mohr, who was filling in for Rome, blasted “idiot” and “moron” Christians for their calls to action after Maher’s comments came to light.

“People are going bananas,” he said, before seeming to read from a news story: “The tweet prompted some to call for a boycott of HBO.”

“Yeah, that would be great Christians, except there’s nothing to boycott, there’s no commercials, you idiot,” he chuckled. “‘Let me tell you something, HBO,’” he continued, as if he was someone boycotting the company, “‘I’m not buying any products you advertise. I’m not drinking Minute Maid orange juice, I’m not going to use the tricky ladder– the three-in-one ladder you advertise.’”

“There are no commercials you moron, it’s HBO Christians!” he yelled. “And I’m speaking as a Christian.”

He went on to explain that while Maher’s comments may have been shocking, Maher has every right to tweet whatever he wants.

“Bill Maher can tweet whatever he wants. That’s the flip side of Tim Tebow giving praise to Jesus after every successful thing, is that someone should be able to say, ‘I guess Jesus didn’t want you to win.’”

Still, he said he wouldn’t have done it — while also referencing the recent child-rape story at Penn State University.

“Now would I personally have tweeted that Jesus Sanduskyed Tim Tebow? No, I personally will not write that, because I would be fired form everything. But some comedians make a name for themselves pushing the envelope. And they can do it. Bill Maher can do it — it’s a free country.”

It’s unclear what boycott Mohr was specifically referencing or why he said Christians were going after HBO advertisers. The movement across Twitter and other places has referenced boycotting HBO in general, not necessarily a call for a movement against HBO sponsors.

But while Mohr’s comments might offend some, it might cause others to wonder why Maher’s tweet, which didn’t take place on HBO, would be the impetus for a boycott of a network filled with content that might otherwise offend Christians.

By the way, Mohr wasn’t done broaching controversial topics after his comments on Christians. He also wondered aloud why outlets publish the entirety of Maher’s tweet, in which he uses the f-word, but yet do not publish the n-word.

      Really, we need to boycott the advertisers on all the mainstream (State) media channels. Contact each company that is giving revenue to the mainstream propaganda, telling them that as long as they support them, we will not purchase their product.

      Maher is only the tip of HBO’s filthy iceberg. I cut the cable 3 years ago because I wanted to limit the CRAPPOLA spewing into my home. When HBO does manage to put out something kind of good (Band of Brothers comes to mind) It eventually is available via online or DVD for far less than the monthly HBO $ubscription fee$.

      Me, too. In fact, I cancelled my cable service completely-dropped the equipment off a few hours ago. I‘ll pick n’ choose online; it’s a lot cheaper than paying for all the other garbage. I’ll use the extra money for my favorite charities and for puting extra essentials away for myself.

      I cancelled my HBO subscription a couple of years ago due to Maher and the latest incident only affirms my decision to do so.

      There are some good shows on HBO I would love to see, but I refuse to add them to my cable package until his show is cancelled.

      When you pay for a service, you boycott the service – when you boycott something sponsored by advertisers, you boycott the advertisers. Apaprently Mr. Mohr forgot that unlike broadcast television, HBO is a subscriber-sponsored enterprise.

      How many $20/month subscriptions will HBO lose? Who knows, but it’s pretty obvious Mr. Mohr doesn’t understand the business model HBO uses…

      Here is the thing that upsets me about these foul mouthed liberals who get these types of shows:
      They expect people to pay them for bashing us. I do not pay for HBO any longer because of trash that he spews. If I wanted to listen to his trash, I would watch MSNBC because they spout the same jibberish as he does. Why would I pay more to hear his whining diatribe? Why should I pay for programming that makes him rich by trashing my values? Every person has the right to “boycott” what they do not want to watch or listen. It is called Capitalism. If HBO/Time Warner loses money from its pay channels, do you think that they will look at their programming? I personally have been boycotting Time Warner for many years because of their business practices when I had “cable”. That is why I switched to DSS later to be called DTV. I will not pay someone to trash my values, the same values that was taught to me by my parents and was taught to them by their parents and so on. By trashing my values, you are trashing my entire families values, and I will not pay someone to trash my families values. Just imagine if BM had to actually work for a living, would he still spout this trash? Who knows, but I will not pay for him to trash mine and my families values and work ethic.

      Very rarely will HBO ever have any programming that I like (such as Band of Brothers). Most of the content on those shows (as well as Showtime) is absolute trash. That said, I’m never subscribing to HBO.

      As for Mohr, I’ve never really seen his shows or mvoeis (although I thought he did a good job in one episode of Monk), and now I‘m never going to see anything he’s been in.

      Your right to broadcast insults about my faith is one that you practice with glee. So I am practicing a right I have and no longer want your sick twisted hate filled network in my home. The way I see it your the ones who lose. You just lost my monthly subscription. I gain both more disposable income and the comfort of knowing my family no longer will be directly exposed to you relentless broadcasting of hate and insults of out faith.       I have never subscribed to HBO, nothing but filth there. Not my cup of tea. Have to agree why Christians would be subscribed anyway. I’m sure the call for a boycott was to get people to unsubscribe, though… nothing to do with imaginary advertisers. And, the boycott of HBO is obviously because that is where Maher’s show is broadcast by.

      1. I went to a Jewish school for many years. We learned about Christianity in school, and we learned NOTHING negative about it.
      2. Modern Kibbutzim have reverted to becoming capitalist communities, just more strongly knit than others, practically small towns. The Kibbutz itself is a business entity that works to make a profit, and PAYS it’s workers, many of whom live on the Kibbutz. Many people who live on Kibbutzim do not work for their Kibbutz, and they are free to work wherever they want.

      I agree. When Maher aired his program, I cut the station off of my cable due to his ignorant rants. I also sent a not so nice letter to HBO letting them know how I……feel. They did send a letter back saying they would miss my past support. I sent them another letter saying if I pay for a good quality product, I expect just that.     He was right, they dont have advertisers BUT I also cancelled HBO. There may be no boycot of an advertiser but a cancelled subscription goes right at HBO’s bottom line. Im sure my cancellation wont affect them much but I wonder how they would feel if a million people did the same thing? If your tired of these “comedians” getting away with saying anything they want toward Christians let them know and cancel HBO. Make sure they know why your cancelling.     Yes, he can tivo or say anything he wants and people have the right to stop watching HBO because of that and let HBO know why. Just like they can stop listening to that radio show if they want. The entertainment types think that they can insult anyone but get incensed whenever anyone talks about boycotting them because of it. Somehow that is infringing on their rights.

    The guy is too stupid to understand. If you don’t like what you hear on HBO, cancel the subsciption. That sends a much stronger message than boycotting a product.

    There really isn’t anything worth watching on HBO anyway, and boycotters will save well over a hundred bucks a year.

      He was right, they dont have advertisers BUT as Lynda did, I also cancelled HBO. There may be no boycot of an advertiser but a cancelled subscription goes right at HBO’s bottom line. Im sure my cancellation wont affect them much but I wonder how theywould feel if a million people did the same thing? If your tired of these “comedians” getting away with saying anything they want toward Christians let them know and cancel HBO. Make sure they know why your cancelling. What would the fallout have been if remarks were directed toward Muslims? The sky would be falling and they would have fired him, I guess its ok if directed toward Christians. I beleive the time has come for Christians and conservatives to stand up, take a stand and take our country back.
