Here’s how MRC explains the exchange between a Memphis radio host, Thaddeus Matthews, and a GOP candidate for Congress, Charlotte Bergmann:

This shocking video (uploaded to YouTube by someone not friendly to the Tea Party) shows Memphis talk radio host Thaddeus Matthews insulting and humiliating Republican congressional candidate Charlotte Bergmann on air.

And that’s being kind. Matthews quickly became upset with Bergmann when she wouldn’t answer directly about any affiliation with the Tea Party. Then he launched into a 16-minute argument filled with curse words and accusations that added up to her being too close to whites and not really having the interest of the black community in mind. Eventually, Bergmann bowed out of the conversation, and that’s when Matthews really let her have it — not only did he accuse her of being a “token negro” for whites, but he also slipped in references about Martin Luther King and even refused to shake her hand because he was afraid her “whiteness” would rub off on him.

The video was uploaded to YouTube on January 25 (as well as part 2). It’s unclear at this time when the interview aired, however Bergmann posted a link to the video on her Facebook page on Tuesday and asked if this is how women in Memphis are regularly treated:

The verbal abuse here is shocking to say the least.  Charlotte Bergman has a billboard up in Tennessee’s 9th Congressional district.  Tennessee Congressional District 9 is considered THE safest Democratic seat in the entire state along with CD 5.  There hasn’t been a serious challenger since anybody can remember, hence the vitriol.

And:

Despite the efforts of the Democrat Party to defeat the Voting Rights Act of 1965, today they openly brag about protecting the rights of all people to vote for the candidate of their choice. However, it’s also quite clear that blacks are the only people in America who are publicly ridiculed should they not vote for candidates Democrats so authorize.

As for Bergmann, she says on her Facebook page that she’s now been invited to the CPAC conference to speak about the incident.

      Well, this is the clearest, most violent, prolonged example of black on black racism and gender abuse I’ve ever seen in public. And it’s interesting that, though Bergmann is black, Matthews perceived her as white and that became the basis of, and justification for, his racist attack.

      It reminds me of something my black friends have told me for at least two decades, that the worst racism they’ve ever suffered was NOT at the hands of whites but at the hands of other blacks, usually those with lighter skin. I theorize that many blacks project this virulent form of black on black racism onto all whites, and have become blinded to the fact that MOST white people are not racist, and that many have worked tirelessly on behalf of blacks.

      I think Matthews‘s anger was sparked NOT by Bergmann’s inability to answer his poorly framed questions. It was sparked by her skin color, which is much lighter than his, and which he hates because he thinks that her very color is a betrayal to her race. He assumes that since she is lighter than he, she MUST identify more closely with whites than with darker skinned people like himself. He hated her before she ever walked into “his” studio, before he ever “axed” his first ill-informed, unanswerable question rooted in racial malice and based on lies about the Tea Party.

      The only people worse than Matthews in this situation were those who let him continue the verbal beatdown on this innocent woman he INVITED to be a GUEST on

Unfortunately what he has to say is common throughout black America and anyone reading Rev. Jesse Peterson’s books, like “From Rage to Responsibility” will get a first hand verification of that.

      Peterson verifies exactly what I’ve written many times. Blacks, especially the youth who are the highest perpetrators of crime and who comprise the vast majority of black on white mob assaults, are affected the most. Peterson says that blacks are told constantly that all their failings and lack of success are due to white oppression. They’re fed non-stop hate…24/7.

      If blacks fail in school, they‘re told it is whitey’s fault, even though they can’t do the course work. If they can’t find jobs due to lack of skills, intelligence or training, it is whitey’s fault.

      These kinds of hateful lies are promoted so much and so vigorously, causing such hatred and animosity, because it embarasses the black leadership that their racial group just can’t achieve, academically or in business to any great degree. Having a white scape goat eases their feelings of inferiority.

      Too, jealousy and resentment over white success adds to black hatred, as does their jealousy over other groups who outperform them.

      Take for an example Charles Payne who works for Fox Business. He talks about his adolescent life desiring to be a successful business man. He was ridiculed, and at times ganged up on, for talking ‘to white’ and carrying his schoolwork in a briefcase to school. His classmates didn’t value nor support his ambitions. In other words, his frame of reference was alien to his immediate environment.
      This human being (Thaddeus Mathews) who expressed such vileness is exactly who Charles Payne had to deal with on a daily basis growing up. This sort of philosophy is culturally taught and encouraged, via peer groups, throughout their lives. It will take an extremely charismatic, eloquent person who is firmly grounded in the Grace and Spirit of Jesus The Christ to break them free off their imprisonment. “Free at last….”? I think not. Unfortunately (history proves this out) that sort of person is extremely rare, and are usually slain by those who are comfortable with, or benefit from, the cultural norm. This is not meant to diminish the importance or influence to the black community that Charlotte Bergmann, Allen West, Herman Cain, or Condoleezza Rice provides, but they currently fail to rise to that caliber of personhood.
      May God, in Christ Jesus through the Holy Spirit, convert the heart and mind of Thaddeus Mathews and those like him.

    Let’s turn it around. Let’s make the host a white woman and the candidate a black man being berated. Where do you suppose the host would be right now? Out of a job is where. Heaven help us!     After living in Memphis for a few years… I’ve seen the kind of person Thaddeus is and have listened to his liberal show. Why Charlotte agreed to go on his show is beyond me… trying to appeal to the young crowd maybe?
