Rahm Emanuel Wins Chicago Mayoral Race

Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel received a new title Tuesday evening: Mayor-elect.

With 86 percent of the city’s voting precincts counted, Emanuel stood with 55 percent of the vote as the Associated Press declared him the clear winner, with enough votes to avoid an April 5 run-off election.

Emanuel will succeed retiring Mayor Richard Daley who has held the office since 1989.

The Chicago-Sun Times reports:

Emanuel appears to be riding a $12 million media blitz, a near endorsement from President Obama and the full endorsement of former President Bill Clinton to a one-and-done victory over three major rivals.

In second place was former school board chief Gery Chico, with 24 percent. Former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun and City Clerk Miguel del Valle each had 9 percent.

With Braun coming in behind del Valle, Emanuel was poised to capture a big enough chunk of the black vote to close out Chicago’s first wide-open mayor’s race in 64 years.

“It looks like this thing is all over,” said Ald. Pat O‚Connor (40th), whose North Side ward delivered a 65 percent vote for Emanuel.

“It’s tough to beat somebody who’s worked for two presidents, had experience in Congress and can actually point to things at the national level that everybody is aware of,” O’Connor said. “He’s also a prodigious fundraiser and a tireless campaigner. That’s a resume and a record that’s hard to match.”

Emanuel celebrated his victory Tuesday night by thanking his: “You sure know how to make a guy feel at home.”

    well I for one one not visit Chicago at all. not spend one thin dime in that city.. if they want him they can have him but they cant have MY money. let them have thier cake and eat it too.. HA the union baked cake that is screwed up flat and repulsive ….

    It just makes me sick…I live in Indiana just outside Chi but my sister lives “over there” and I think she probably voted for him. We can’t even get near a conversation about such things. Our parents are gone on and we have no other siblings so we agree to disagree…however…It Makes me sick. I pray for her constantly…he who has ears to hear… Emanuel is just another thug…eegads you can just see it all over him.

    I live on the West Coast but have wanted to buy a studio or one bedroom condo in The Loop, or, on the Gold Coast. The units themselves aren’t much. However, the real bugger when it comes to Chicago, or Illinois, for that matter, lies in the incidentals- one being taxes. I really don’t think I want to participate in daytime strong-armed robbery against myself. The business climate is, in itself, an invitation to get out. So, get out is what is presently happening. How dumb and short-sighted are these people in charge?

Then you have Rahm, step out of the White House, and steps into Chicago Land! What is wrong with people from Chi town? I‘ve run the Laselle’s Bank Marathon numerous times and will not run this year! There was no doubt he was going to be mayor of Chicago when it was ruled that he had been a “resident” for the last year. The handwriting was on the wall. Of course, he won this fairly and squarely, I have no doubt. (sarc)

I can hear the local unions saying “I will give back all the benefits and overtime because our guy is office.” What is the deficit in Chicago? oh that’s right ZERO because a Democrat is in charge.

      I stopped by the Chevrolet Dealership yesterday, for a look at the new Silverado 2011, 1500 pickup. Just for fun, I took it out for a test drive. I wanted to sense that new “feel” before they become extinct…

      The salesman (a black man wearing an Obama “change” lapel pin) sat in the passenger seat describing the truck and all its “wonderful” options.. The seats were of particular interest. He explained that the seats directed warm air to your butt in the winter and directed cool air to your butt in the summer heat. Feeling like messing with him, I mentioned that this must be a Republican truck.

      Looking a bit angry, he asked why I thought it was a Republican truck. I explained that if it were a Democrat truck, the seats would blow smoke up your ass year-round.

      I had to walk back to the dealership… Damn guy had no sense of humor.

      Whose arms did he have to twist; or dirt to be dug up; or bribe to back out? No one is surprised at this, however, I was sure hoping the citizens of Chicago would have demanded more from their new mayor.
      Illinois has become the new “safe haven” for whimpy dems fleeing from voting in WI, IN, and any other state that will be confronted with budget cuts in the public sector. I hope their constiuents expect more from them, as well. I support those governors, not thugs like Emanuel. He, and his brother, are piles of smelly, fly-infested-rancid dung!

      My first thought when I saw the headline was,” Well they knew he had Washington connections and could get their city a lot more from the government.” Sad, that we have to feel this way about our country and leaders. Like politicians turned Lobbyist, Washington politicians shouldn’t be allowed to run for city office for a few years after they leave a D.C. job! if ever!       82dAirborne: My study of history especially the Russian Revolution, personal experience, and the observation of my surroundings have led me to the conclusion that we are currently living under a most wicked Jewish Apartheid. I would like to say some good things about Jews but at this point I can’t unless I speak of Jesus and his disciples. I can hardly believe what they have done to this country and I can’t offer them a lot of sympathy..

      I’ve struggled with this information over the past 3 or 4 years.. I use to be an extremely devout Christian even at one point was considering preaching and having studied the Bible extensively for the past 15-20 years I’m very familiar with the various doctrines. Just yesterday I heard a sincere teacher of the gospel address this issue and it gave me hope that I may once again find some peace but at this point all I can say is that the Christian people of America have been greatly deceived!

      The following is a link to the message I heard yesterday. It would do every Christian a great service to watch it and you may begin to understand the reason that I feel as I do. Now if you decide to watch it, I want you to come back to this post and tell me how you feel about it and why I’m wrong to think as I do. Otherwise all I’ve done is give my opinion and that’s it. I think we can still do that in America?

      I am the antithesis of politically correct. I hold no strong religious beliefs in any direction. And yes you have the right to your opinion. On several occasions I fought for the right of all of us to do just that. Sweeping generalizations are never good or, more importantly, accurate. I do not apologize for judging people. We all do whether we admit it or not. I judge folks individually. One at a time on the merits or lack thereof. I make mistakes to be sure.

      In this instance I believe I am right. Like you I have my own opinion: I think your way of thinking is dangerous. It encourages blind hate and discrimination. As I said earlier -> that is stupid at best and more probably dangerous & evil. I don’t pretend to know what is in your head or your heart – I don’t know you. Your post is hateful in my humble opinion.

      There are bad people in every religion/no religion. You profess to struggle with some of your beliefs. Maybe you should look at individuals not groups.       I am sooooooo Shocked!!!! I lived in Chicago for about 17 years. Of course he won, and also most likely was appointed. Voting in Chicago, is a farce and is just as corrupt as the city goverment. Of course the Dem’s control Chicago, it would really be an major act of God for a change of party of any city goverment people. These people are really ugly and are so corrupt that they don’t even pretend to hide it. State Goverment is just about as bad and this goes for both parties. It doesn’t matter which party is in power the past two Governors one Rep and one Dem have gone or on their way to jail. So when I heard this, it is like a third world country where the corruption is the norm. So, what can we do? nothing and right now nor can the people there do anything. The Whole City goverment should go to Jail and the key thrown away in my opinion. Also most of the state goverment!

      Having lived my entire life till 7 years ago in the great state of CHICAGO .. let me tell you the election was just a formality.. Obama let the word out.. end of story..CHICAGO is the most corrupt city I know of.. however.. to be fair NOT ONE REPUBLICAN even ran.. they really didn’t need money.. only they need are signatures.. get on the ballot.. the low turn out was because NO ONE liked the candidates they were given.. maybe IF they had a second choice they would have come out to vote.. another reason for the low voter turn out is in CHICAGO they aren’t really to happy with OBAMA anymore..

      I agree, it’s funny he mentioned that “Chicago really knows how to make a guy feel at home”…especially for a non resident but that doesn’t seem to matter for Rahm…..handy now that his BFF will have his campaign HQ in Chicago…and they’re both lifetime members in Man Country, Chicago’s best all male bath house.       First comments…sad to say I felt compelled to join only because someone feels Jews are the cause of the worlds problems, or that Jews are even a different group of people.

      For the actual topic. The last time I saw a poll for the Mayor of Chicago, Rahm had no chance to win, now this? As well with the exit polls being almost entirely in Rahm’s favour, which does beg the question: what percentage of people actually voted in the Exit Polls?

      Then there’s the question of what triggered the win. Was it the shadow of Obama and a sense that through Rahm, Chicago would be touched and kept under the sheltered wings of the dear crowned prince? Or was it Daley’s influence? I thought he hadn’t any time to start a campaign?

      Well, he is brutally efficient, though likely as corrupt as they come. I can almost smell the Dead-Fish strewn throughout the streets, especially when the campaign war machine begins in a few months.

Just know that the ideology you are buying into has no basis in any real historical fact, but much like Nazi propaganda, much of the proofs used to validate their claims are true, making it that much more difficult to break from such terrible concepts. Many other Americans are waking up to the facts so you need to understand the issue so that you can help others when it all hits the fan.

      I can’t help but remember the ole Bible verse which states that “In the last days even the very elect will be decieved…” It is crucial that a clear distinction is made between anti-Semitism and the role Jews play in America today. Don’t be ignorant on the matter.

      I live in Chicago and worked at the polls and I tell you Rahm didn’t even have to campaign, he would have won no matter what. Community organizing and unions got this for him. No one in my district wanted him. He is not popular here at all, we preferred he stay with Mr O. When he said he was running, he won. Politics is so corrupt here its not even funny. If your precinct doesn’t have enough Republican judges NO PROBLEM! We’ll just change the badges of the Democratic Judges and give them Republican badges…problem solved. Thats the Chicago way.
