PITTSBURGH (AP) — Raiders defensive end Richard Seymour has been ejected for an openhanded punch to Ben Roethlisberger’s face as the Steelers quarterback was celebrating a touchdown pass.
After completing the 22-yard throw to Emmanuel Sanders, Roethlisberger jumped into the arms of tackle Flozell Adams. Roethlisberger then began walking forward and appeared to say something to Seymour, who turned and struck the quarterback in the jaw with his open right hand.
As Roethlisberger went to his back, lineman Chris Kemoeatu grabbed Seymour. Both Seymour and Kemoeatu drew penalties, but only Seymour was ejected.
Seymour also was ejected Dec. 27 for hitting Browns running back Jerome Harrison after a play was over. Seymour was fined $10,000 for that infraction.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 10:02amIt was wrong but it was NOT a punch. You can clearly see his hand was OPEN so the actual impact was far less than it would have been if he was TRULY punched.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 7:16pmWho is stupid enough to punch a helmet with a closed fist? You would break your knuckles. He hit Ben hard enough look how hard he went down it wasn’t a little slap. Ben is a big man he doesn’t go down easy. He got cranked no doubt.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 9:58amNo question Seymour and the raiders are a classless bunch of bums, but Roethlisberger is one of the biggest axxholes in a league loaded with ‘em. Matter of fact, he would be a perfect candidate to play for the raiders. I think it likely that after his next juvenile sexual assault he will finish his career with the raiders. A perfect fit.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 9:57amAs a Raider fan let me start by saying the team sucked yesterday but we’ll be back. As to the matter at hand, I find it so funny that the Stealers (spelled that way on purpose because you have to cheat to win) always brag about how tough they are but as soon as a Raider decks them they run and cry instead of getting up like a man (see Atkinson and Swan as an example). People say the Raiders have no class….okay maybe….but answer me this, how many times was Jim Plunkett accused of sexual assualt? I’m sure Stealer parents are really proud of the face of their franchise.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 10:20amDid you watch that game yesterday. You accuse the STEELERS of cheating? WOW! How many bogus, personal foul penalties do Raiders have to pay the Refs to call against an opposing team to win? When Heath Miller was pushed to the ground from behind on a pass play and Pass interferance wasn’t called. Those Refs were clearly in the pockets of the Raiders yesterday and they STILL counldn’t muster more than a field goal against a STEELERS team that played with heart and purpose. Get over yourself and your loser team.

This would be the FIRST time the Raiders had refs in their pockets – can you say Tuck Rule?
And I agree – he shouldn’t have hit him until he got in for a sack with a legal hit.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 7:08pmWhat team have you been watching? The Steelers kick everybody’s a@@ …. always have. They have always done so, that is why they are always changing the rules to try to beat them. ie mel blount , the d line in the 70′s etc. Harrison………

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 8:42pm35 – 3 and you think they had to cheat to win? I’m sorry, no team has to cheat when their opponents suck so badly. Raiders…three Super Bowl Rings….last one 1984, 26 years ago…Steelers…SIX Super Bowl Rings…last one…2009, just a little over 1 year ago. Case closed.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 9:38amThats why football is such a pansy sport; you cant even throw a punch without getting ejected. I prefer watching hockey, where men settle their issues like men with a full on fist fight then get sent to cool off for five minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAPhqXj_24I

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 10:04amFootball players are generally predisposed to a special role because of their build and individual abilities. Quarterbacks and kickers have a skill set that separate from linesmen. On the other hand, hockey players, while GENERALLY of the same build and physique, can serve in 5 of the 6 positions on the ice. That is why goalies are so fiercely protected. NT v. QB is a dangerous mismatch in an onfield fight, whereas opposing RWers engaged in hand to hand fight is a closely matched. Anything beyond the hand to hand fighting is subject to penalty or ejection.

He tried to twist my ankle, and I said something to him. He got up and started to say something back, and that’s when Ben was walking past him. He took it out on Ben. Ben didn’t say anything to him. Posted on November 22, 2010 at 8:43amI’m not defending Seymour either, but I think they both should’ve been ejected. I have no respect for Roethlisberger anymore since the past few months. It seems as though he started it anyway. Seymour surely wasn’t “defending” himself, but he was hyped up and reacted in the moment. It was a dumb choice and one he probably regrets, but I understand it.

Posted on November 22, 2010 at 8:57amWhat would they eject Ben for? You realize that Ben already served his suspension for something that had absolutely nothing to do with playing football? You also realize that the “lady” who first accused him of impropriety NEVER called the cops and waited a year to file a CIVIL lawsuit…proving she was just a moneygrubber? Her friend reports that she went to Pittsburgh to stalk Ben, and stated that she wished she had gotten pregnant so she could have Ben’s baby.
The second girl was drinking underage. Yeah…an intoxicated college coed; there’s a real reliable individual. God help me if I suddenly get sued by every drunk or crazy coed I ever had sex with, but there is a reason why I don’t have to worry…because I’m not worth tens of millions of dollars. Ben shouldn’t have been suspended, these girls should’ve been indicted for extortion.
Who cares if Ben was trashtalking…they all do it constantly. CONSTANTLY. If they ejected people for running their mouth, there wouldn’t be anyone to play, and the stands would be EMPTY.
There is nothing to ‘understand’ about Seymour’s childish behavior.
“he started it anyway….” What a stupid thing to say. And before you react to what may be a comment that you don’t like, just consider the self-described logic that you “started it.”
