Rapper Kanye West: ‘People Look at Me Like I’m…Hitler’

EASTNOR CASTLE DEER PARK, England (The Blaze/AP) — Kanye West says he feels like people look at him like Hitler.

The 34-year-old rapper known for his outbursts was the headline act at the Big Chill music festival Saturday night, where he ranted in the middle of his set about being misunderstood and under-appreciated.

“I walk through the hotel and I walk down the street, and people look at me like I’m (expletive) insane, like I’m Hitler,” he said. “One day the light will shine through and one day people will understand everything I ever did.” Watch West make his comments, below (Hitler comment can be found around 4:20):

Content Warning: Explicit language

West received light boos from the crowd as a result.

The performer also defended the music video for his song “Monster,” which features cannibalism and girls hanging from their necks.

“Who saw the video before it got banned, before they took it down and before women’s groups starting saying that a person that lost the most important woman in his life is now against women in some way?” asked West, referring to the 2007 death of his mother Donda West.

West, who started his set roughly 30-minutes late, apologized to the crowd for his tardiness, saying he needed to make sure his performance was great.

“Michael Jordan changed so much in basketball, he took his power to make a difference. It’s so much (expletive) going on in music right now and somebody has to make a (expletive) difference,” he said.

The multiplatinum-seller is known for his outspokenness, most notably his diss toward Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, where he grabbed the microphone from her as she accepted the award for best female video and said Beyonce should have won it. In 2005 he said “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” during a Hurricane Katrina telethon.

At the music festival, West talked about some of his awards show drama, saying some of his sponsorships were canceled as a result.

But West closed his show on a positive note by paying tribute to Amy Winehouse.

West, who said he met the late singer a few years ago during Paris fashion week, played snippets of Winehouse’s “Tears Dry On Their Own” and “Back to Black.“ He said it was ”beautiful“ to meet the performer and that she was ”amazing.”

Then, in Kanye fashion, he began to rant.

“Thank you for protecting your artists that are still here,” he said to the crowd. “This is for McQueen, for Amy, for Michael and for all the media, can you lighten up on all your artists that are still here?” he asked, receiving a roaring cheer from the crowd and leaving the stage with his 3-man band and 20-something backup dancers.

Back in 2009, comedians Garfunkel and Oates listed a series of quotes and asked their audience to guess which came from Hitler and which came from West. While they made it clear that they were joking in making the outlandish comparison, the quotes are entertaining to say the least:

Too bad white people always think black people should have the same POV as them. We have our own identity, and if it was as racist as you people and the Blaze portray it to be, then what about these facts: Why are there so many mixed couples? Why are the youth so integrated? There is not 1 mainstream black-owned media outlet(not BET either), so why do people think the MSM would carry our water(average black person)? Rap music has bridged cultures, countries, races. Sports has totally broken down barriers on COMMUNICATION and mutual respect between cultures and races. Only those who WANT things to be racist and set “A BLAZE” will take isolated incidents and use it to separate the USA.

      Shamanworld, that you said

      1) “White people always think…”, and
      2) “We have our own identity”

      is, in itself, racist.

Mixed couples are beside the point, except that they demonstrate that some blacks – and some whites – are not paralyzed by racism. I’d hope that the vast majority of people of all races, are not racist. As to Kanye West, I don‘t know what’s in his heart, but he consistently attributes the worst possible motives to white people, leading me to believe he is racist.

As far as rap music bridging cultures, etc., we can drop the “rap” modifier altogether. Ragtime, Jazz, Blues, Rock & Roll, etc., have always had a tendency to bring diverse groups of people together. As do sports, and the arts generally.

I live in New Orleans – a huge melting pot of races and cultures. Probably 8-10% of folks have more than a passing amount of racism. Those people are sad, and mostly, dying off with time. In general though, whites and blacks get along fine here, up until the point where the entrenched leadership gets involved. They have a vested interest in keeping us suspicious of each other. They divide us up by race, income, religion, sexuality, it doesn’t matter. They know that a united populace is the enemy of the political status quo. It‘s very sad that this seems to be what’s going on in our country as well.

There are some racist folks that post here; I wish they wouldn’t. But I can‘t stop ’em. And it doesn’t make the site ra

I love all the people that take up for blacks, you want to see the truth, compare New Orleans and the Mississippi gulf coast after Katrina. New Orleans, murders, rapes, looting, violence of all kinds broke out, Mississippi, compassion, charity, and people working together to help each other broke out. Both areas, filled with poor, poorly educated, with of the populations of both living off welfare. Both hit by same storm, at the same time, and in many ways Mississippi was hit much harder than New Orleans. The basic difference between the 2 boiled down to the percentage of blacks, and the mob mentality that blacks fall back into when you put a group of them together in a stressful situation.

Some of you people are no better, the way you’re talking. There are as many hateful white people as there are blacks. Some of you are proving it right now by these comments!

Just like I disapprove of Obama, not because he’s black, but because he’s leading us down a destructive path. That path is getting wider since last Friday. No, it’s not the fault of the Tea Party, it’s the fault of our current regime who want to take us into socialism. See how you like that when it happens. You won’t be able to complain about blacks or anyone, may not even have food.

One day the light may shine down on Kanye and he may realize he’s just an entertainer. A controversial entertainer at that. A microphone does not make an opinion valid. More entertainers need to realize this.
Entertainers also need to realize everybody is not entertained by the same things. If he wants to be loved by everyone his best bet would be to buy a few cardigan sweaters and start doing Pat Boone covers and keep his commentary to “spay and neuter your pets”.

Laughable? By comparison, Kanye hates all whites (even if they be given him money) deadbeat brothers get a free pass… Hitler only had a problem with jews (with da furer, it was a religious thing but with Kanye its all about racism 24/7, with a dash of democrat empowerment to spice up his fischizzil… because he is an old school racist… then again adolf (hitler not kanye) was for a master racer too). I wouldn’t recognize him. Rap is terrible. I don’t even consider it music. It’s just talking to a beat.
Very annoying when kids crank it up and all you can hear is a bass guitar playing one or two notes over and over or some guy talking crude nonsense with the beat.
He’s famous for taking the microphone from some woman at the country music awards and beating up his wife or girlfriend, I think? Or is he the guy that was pretending to rape a child on stage?

The vast majority don’t even know this idiot exists, let alone have an opinion about him. One problem with our media, including The Blaze, is that they bother to give pronouncements like this even a minute’s worth of notice. If the media is going to cover these kinds of people, they should focus on the disgusting lyrics of their published works and on the corporations that pollute the culture by publishing and promoting this filth.
