LL Cool J Beats Up Home Intruder, Holds Him Until Police Arrive

(TheBlaze/AP) — LL Cool J isn‘t just a tough guy when he plays a special agent on TV’s “NCIS: Los Angeles” — he caught an actual bad guy on Wednesday.

The 44-year-old rapper struggled with and subdued a suspected burglar early Wednesday morning at his home in the Studio City area, police said. He was not injured in the altercation. The same can’t be said for the would-be burglar who left LL Cool J’s home with a broken nose and jaw after getting pummeled in a “knock-down, drag-out” fight, the Los Angeles Times reports, citing police sources.

Police got a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. from someone who said her father had spotted an intruder in their home and was holding him downstairs.

“There was a prowler at his residence whom he confronted in the kitchen. … There was a physical confrontation briefly between the two of them,” LAPD spokesman Richard French said.

A 58-year-old man was taken to the hospital and was expected to be arrested on suspicion of burglary. His identity wasn’t released but there was no indication that he knew LL Cool J or had a personal vendetta, French said.

“He appeared to be a homeless person,” French said.

French said he had no details about the man’s injuries or how he may have gotten into the home, a walled and gated mansion in a wealthy hillside section of the San Fernando Valley that’s not far from major studios.

“LL Cool J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern,” said a statement released by his publicist, Rhett Usry. “As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter.”

LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, has had such hits such as “Mama Said Knock You Out” and “I’m Bad.”

      I don’t know if Cool James is a actual conservative but he is a registered republican. He is mostly quite about it but I heard him speak out about it.

      They have a bunch of uninformed (some hate filled) dummies commenting below. A lot of people judging on how he looks and that is a rapper and on his character or actions.

      Nah, if he were a democrat, he would have told the burglar that LL CoolJay lives next door, and helped him break into his neighbors house to re-distribute the wealth. Just like all democrats do…legally.

      ditto. If more of us would fight back to intruders, they’d think twice next time. I remember years ago young women were told to just relax and don‘t fight back and it’d be over soon enough. Contrary, my mom always told us to fight tooth and nail and hold nothing back. I still believe in that; a gun helps.

    I’m glad Cool J got the intruder, but I highly doubt he was a tough customer to beat up…HE WAS HOMELESS! The guy probably just wanted something to eat, a place to sleep for a bit or a little of those millions that Cool J has. I really doubt his life was in any danger with this “homeless” guy. Here is a good example of how we’re NOT being kind to each other these days. The guy does deserve what he gets for breaking in, but Cool J might want to look at the guys situation sometime if he gets a chance.

      Actually, James Todd Smith, a.k.a. Ladies Love Cool James (L.L. Cool J), took boxing lessons when he was young.

      I’ve been listening to him since he was only 16 years old, and I own all of his albums. He’s an all-around good guy. Cocky, arrogant, but hey, he’ll be the third rapper to end up in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, mark my words.

    Break in, go to kitchen grab knife, criminal decides how far he wants to go. The criminal is the picture of unarmed innocence before the break in.

    He is lucky and I am glad it turned out okay.

    Your kitchen is full of nice sharp deadly weapons. How many of you have your knife sets out on the counter in those wooden blocks? He could have easily been in knife fight.

    Moral of the story greet the intruder with a 12 ga filled with bird shot great for home defense with little over penetration.

    If you do not have to worry about over penetration buy the Tri Ball Buck Shot, they give a new meaning to Buck Shot

      Believe it or not, LL Cool J is one of those rappers who doesn’t like the nasty music, and he’s actually pretty conservative. Not sure if he’s a registered Republican, but he is a conservative and a patriot! … same goes for his co-star in “NCIS-LA,” Chris O’Donnell, minus the rapper part.

      Whether liberal or conservative, he did what he should have. I don’t care who it is but when you stand up and defend who knows what from a criminal breaking into their home, he protected his family and that is the only thing that this story is concerned with. Even if he was by biggest enemy I would tell him “well done”.
