Rasmussen Reports 77% of Americans Believe Jesus Rose From the Dead

Rasmussen polled 1,000 adults between April 3-4 on various Easter-related topics, and found some interesting results.

They asked:

1.  Do you consider Easter to be one of our nation’s most important holidays, least important holidays or somewhere in between?

2.  Will you attend a church service to celebrate Easter this year?

3.  Will you have a family meal to celebrate Easter?

4.  Will you or your family have an Easter egg hunt for Easter this year?

5.  Do you believe the person known to history as Jesus Christ actually walked the earth about 2000 years ago?

6.  Do you believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God who came to Earth to die for our sins?

7. Do you believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead?

Rasmussen Reports 77% of Americans Believe Jesus Rose From the Dead

With a margin of error +/- 3%, Rasmussen found “Americans’ belief in the divinity of Jesus Christ remains strong.”

86% of American adults believe that Jesus Christ walked the Earth 2,000 years ago, while just seven percent (7%) don’t share this belief.

Furthermore, 77% of those polled believe Jesus rose from the dead.  This is only a percentage point lower (within the margin of error) than in 2011 and 2010, when 78% espoused the same belief.

Rasmussen claims a 95% level of confidence in their report.

      Good question. I am not saying anything bad about Christians as I too beleive in Jesus but I get really sick and tired of people that I meet that claim there faith and then still act like total selfish, ignorant asses. Got a few in my neighborhood whos teenage boys were being little thugs and threatening other kids and trying to start stuff with adults, when I confronted them there daddys told me they were good Christian boys, really pissed me off I am sick of fake Christians who hide behind the fact that they go to church and think they are pious because they sit in a pew once a week. On the other hand though I have met some truly wonderful Christians.

      I know that Jesus lives. That is the most amazing thing about him is that anyone can gain a knowledge of this. We can know for ourselves that he lived on earth died and rose again and lives today. Once we know that he lives we know that we will live again. What a wonderful gift to give to all mankind.

      If he did return and walked amongst us it would not be as good thing for those who have failed him and the evil that roams the world. The return of Jesus would bring a world war on the level we could not imagine. Nor do I wish to, as one who has seen much more than his share of fighting and war, I would not wish that on the common masses. I for one hope that it does not happen in my life time.

      Only those who have lived the horrors of Communism and Marxist states might understand the Hell on earth that would take place. The famines that lead to the deaths of millions in Russia and China. The savagery that took place in Africa, men, women and children murdered by millions as well. Hitler pails in comparison to the immense horror that Lenin, Stalin and Mao committed, between the three they have the blood of well over a hundred million human beings on their hands.

      I agree with most of what you say about Jesus, BUT….

      He wasn’t crucified to show us we have a iimortal soul. Most then as now already know that to be a self evident truth. He was crucified as the ultimate sacrificial lamb, the perfect sacrifice to end all sacrifices so that all sins past, present, and future ARE forgiven PERIOD! Without Him serving as our eternal Advocate there would be no hope for humankind. NONE! For those that believe in Christ and are saved THAT is WHAT we believe in.

      This is the Resurrection..I find it distasteful that some church blended pagan days with holy days..it takes from our Savior. We as Christians should know the holy days of our Elohim..but then we have “Oh but we are Christians..and these things are for the Jews!” Really?       The problem with “Christianity” today is there are 33,000 different versions of it and none of them are in agreement. So to an outsider looking in “Christianity” appears to be nothing more than thousands of man made institutions with all of the disagreement and division found in any other man made institution. You don’t like your church? don’t like your pastor? No problem ordain yourself ALL KNOWING and start the “CHURCH OF YOU” and preach the Gospel according to YOU. The face of Christianity today is Everything From Westboro Baptist “God hates ****” to Rainbow Baptist God likes the Gay lifestyle. Today’s “Christianity” ranges from nothing is sin just believe in God to everything is sin and some are predestined for Hell. We are created in Gods image and God is not a God of confusion. So called “Christians” are doing more to keep people from coming to know Jesus than non-believers. Jesus prayed that we would ALL BE ONE. How can one come to know Jesus if His church is INVISIBLE, how can one know what is necessary for salvation?       TO HI: After studying Islam for a number of years, I was totally convinced that Islam IS an evil and sadistic religion, one they made up as they went along, to suit their needs because a LOT of their doctrine is not find in ANY scriptures, holy manuscript, etc. Mohammed started the lies and it went on from there. No other religion in the world is as evil and sadistic as theirs is. The ONLY ones who would disagree are Muslim men (or anyone who turns to Islam) or those who do not mind SLAVERY to a false prophet.

      JESUS IS THE ONE TRUE SON OF THE GOD OF THE HEAVENS AND EARTH.

      The Bible tells us that WE WILL KNOW THEM (true followers of Christ) by the fruit they bear. LOOK AT THEIR FRUIT, NOT AT THEM. Anyone can be called a Christian, but to me, to be called a FOLLOWER OF CHRIST means that I am and will bear fruit, such as love, forgiveness, giving, kindess; and what I do, I do in the Spirit of Jesus Christ. THERE IS YOUR DIFFERENCE.

      I have family that call themselves CHRISTIANS and they won’t even speak to me because I attend my own church and not theirs. Now, if that is WHAT FRUIT THEY BEAR, then I am glad I do not attend their church. I can imagine what they teach, no thank you.

      I do understand how you feel, so take heart. Those people who are kind, thoughtful, share their love of Jesus with you with love, when they comfort you, come to your aid, when they love you for who you are and not what they think you should be – THOSE ARE YOUR FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST.

      There IS a big difference. I hope you dig into the Bible deeper and become a true follower of Christ and ignore those who do not practice what they preach. Follow what Jesus said to do and you will never go wrong – NEVER.

      I know you mean well, but the ANGELS ROLLED THAT STONE AWAY. According to the Greek original manuscripts (I studied Greek), Jesus WALKED THROUGH THE STONE, then the Angels rolled it over to the side, knowing there would be people coming to see Jesus’ tomb. Jesus was NOT in human form when he arose, so He COULD WALK THROUGH THAT STONE WALL. He was in Spirit form, yet in the upper room, they could touch him. THAT IS DIVINE. When we die, we will also be of a divine spirit – not physical.

      If you are interested in what Heaven is like, according to all the scriptures, pick up the book, “Heaven” by Randy Alcorn. THIS IS A MARVELOUS BOOK and everything is backup up by scripture and educated commentary.

      JESUS IS ALIVE TODAY AND FOREVERMORE.

      Jesus is preparing a banquet for those who are true believers and doers of His word – those who have accepted HIM as their personal Savior and have a personal relationship with Him on a daily basis – not a part-time relationship and one on an occasional basis, such as JUST ON EASTER, OR JUST ON CHRISTMAS.

      JESUS KNOWS WHO HIS TRUE FOLLOWERS ARE. I do hope you are one of them.

      For all Christians, Here is a question to answer. Christ had a main theme to his message for salvation, The Golden Rule, and to believe in him. The Golden Rule states: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” I have heard many professed Christians posting on this site call for us to bomb Iran because they may possibly be developing a nuclear weapon. That woud be “Do unto others before they have a chance to do unto you.” The oppostite of Christs message. What is opposite of Christ is Anti-Christ. Which do you believe in?

      I find this pole and others I have seen, hard to believe to be true based on the state of this nation in so many areas.       This Easter weekend is one of the busiest time of year in Jerusalem – one of the most popular tourist attractions in Israel is Jesus tomb. 1000′s of people from all over the World will line up for hours to see nothing. Jesus is not there – it’s empty!

      Buda is still in his grave, Mohammed is this in his grave, that Goose stepping Hitler is still in his grave.

      Angels came from Heaven and broke the Roman Seal on Jesus Tomb and rolled the Stone away – not to let Jesus out – but to allow believers in to God kingdom where their will be no end.

      Cat, for a man who speaks so strongly about Jesus’ teachings, you seem to have forgotten that Jesus was a compassionate man who never lashed out as you just did. Mr. Good vibe was just making a joke about how many people used to equate Obama with God. And what do you mean by “especially on Easter”? Is Easter somehow special in God’s mind? No, it is the day men chose to celebrate the Ressurection. God never ordained Easter. Sin is never more or less abominable depending on the day,not to say the joke was sinful.

      He was a human sacrifice for the sins of mankind from Adam and the world at large. He was begot by God himself, born of the Virgin Mary and felt pain as any human would feel pain. Anyone who is spiritually enlightened knows he felt more than physical pain, “the cup” he wilfully accepted and was sacrificed for was more than mere physical pain. Jesus dying on an ordinary cross, although terrible and real, is not the most significant part of Easter as we celebrate it. Crucifications were the punishment and atonement of the day in and around the end B.C. and early A.D. The fact that he arose from the dead victorious, triumped over sin and death, took captivity captive (Abrahmas bosum or inhabitants of Sheol) is the miracle of his death and the promise of the resurrection to those who believe and have eternal life. Those who know him shall be like him!

      A Supreme Being creates a World. Now, you can believe that we are ALL born of the same primordial soup. Pea soup spawns the next species. Or??? There was a hand A VERY BIG HAND in spurring on our evolution. so to speak.

      God’s divine creation gets pizzed off at God making other creations. So he swears he’s gonna take Adam (humanity) down!       I view things this way. Jesus did not call for rebellion (even though Historically, the time was ripe for it). He said render unto Caesar what is Caeser’s. He didn’t call for condemnation-let He who is without sin cast the first stone.
      He healed people. He fed people. He talked with people.
      He was put to death. It was horrible. He wasn’t there 3 days later. He was gone-yet down the road-He was there.

      Jesus sacrificed his Power and Majesty to be made human. There is no sin in Him but he was made sin, So that each human has a choice to be released from his sin nature and become a child of God. Not just a creation but a child with inheritance rights. All humans are God’s creation but all humans are not Gods sons. Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. Read the first charter of the Gospel of John.

      There are no contemporary sources on Jesus’s life. All surviving mentions of Jesus in ancient times are in texts written by Christians decades or more after his supposed death. No official Roman sources mention him, and the gospels contradict themselves and each other on the key events. The New Testament is factually incorrect on many historical events, such as the reign of Herod and the Roman census. Therefore, it is not clear whether Jesus was in fact a historical person.

      Oh, you think that means she was 16 or 18? In Jewish tradition that could be as young as 11. Mary wasn’t older than 14 when she was impregnated. Joseph was 36′ish when he married a 13 year old girl. Anyone, divine or real and over the age of 17, would constitute a pedophile by today’s laws and sensibilities for impregnating a 13 year old girl.

      picture yourself as a child, taking on the punishment meted out for everything your siblings, friends, cousins, classmates, etc, ever did wrong…now, picture the one (maybe a grandparent, favored aunt or uncle, parent) who loves you most of all, who has always been there for you no matter what, who is constantly by your side, helping you, comforting you, loving you, believing in you…and have them turn their back on you while you are undergoing this pain

      now multiply that kind of suffering times millions…and it will still be just a hint

    I fully understand the importance of the Resurrection and the celebration of Easter, but I question if it is more important than the Christian holiday of Christmas. If Jesus was not born of a virgin mother, and fathered by the Holy Spirit so Jesus would not inherit the sin nature of man, making him the perfect spotless sacrifice for our sins, he would not have been able to die on the cross for us.

    Another reason for his coming to earth as a mortal man is that you cannot kill a God. He had to be mortal to be able to give his life for us.

    Guess its like the chicken or the egg question. Both had to happen to fulfill Gods plan of Salvation.

      Yes, Jesus had to be born, but Easter represents His fulfilled mission, sacrificial gift of love and the tearing of the veil for us. God came to Earth as a child- to do what He did at Easter.

      Personally, I am just grateful to be with Him every day. I believe He rose from the dead to prove as you said, “you can’t kill God”, and that He is alive always. He could have just not allowed Himself to be seen- but what great kindness towards humanity that He was seen!

      Praise the Lord, I believe!

      OBAMA_SHAM – It’s all part of the “new atheist” mentality. They must attack what they don’t believe rather than simply doubt it. Rational atheists don’t attack others for their views, they just don’t agree and are content to let those differences take a back seat to more important things like friendship and respect. This is why Richard Dawkins’ online forums were closed – angry Dawkins followers were being nasty to those who questioned their claims, even to the point of threatening violence. Granted, there are some Christians who have this same mentality and must attack those with whom they disagree. These sad people don‘t understand that Biblically it isn’t their job to be the judge and jury – that‘s in God’s hands. It’s their job to be the best example of the positive difference Christ makes in a life, and that requires that they treat others with respect even if they disagree on very important issues.

      So, as one who believes, please allow me to offer an apology to you for those intolerant religious Christians who feel the need to be crusaders for their cause. And, allow me to encourage you to “forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

      I have no idea what happens after death. Maybe there is something else and maybe not. But I am not worried either way. The world did fine without me for many eons before I got here and it will do fine without me for many more after I am gone. I am here for a very short time and I am doing what I think is best with it. It would be egotistical of me to worry about what happens to my soul/mind/whatever after I die…In the grand scheme of things, I am insignificant but I am at peace with that.

      I think when people say we are not a Christian nation, they are emphasizing that we are not a theocracy. We are a republic with the freedom of religion, and it is gratifying to see that the majority call themselves Christians. I would rather have it that way than have a state mandated religion that people joined out of fear of persecution. I prefer to say we a nation of many Christians who follow the Lord because we want to, and not because we feel we have to.

      I am a born again, fundamental Christian that believes the Bible is Gods Holy and perfect word, but I know that to attack or belittle your beliefs, or lack there of, would not be what God wants. You have knowledge of the gospel, and have rejected it. Peace.

      I would have to respectfully disagree with your comment. Jesus did not exist in my opinion. In my view Jesus is more of a image than a real historic figure. Various Christians view Jesus differently; Muslims will agree with many views about Jesus like Jesus is the Messiah but not God or that he died, and there are countless other views of Jesus. I’m just skeptical in my book about Jesus.

      Thanks PALERIDER54! There are times I sound like an butt. Some users will be familiar with that. I’m just a skeptic like many others out there. But many would be critical that I identify as an deist instead of an atheist. Growing up I always studied religion and what different people believe. When I found out that Muslims share many common beliefs with Christianity I was excited. Yes, I do not believe Jesus was a real person but his image has shaped the world.

      I am an agnostic at best (well I usually see myself as recovering Catholic) but I do admit that my favorite times of year are Easter and Christmas. The spirit of those days is remarkable and heartwarming. I wish people spent more time understanding and helping each other rather than judging and attacking.
      But that’s another argument for another day. I really do wish the best for all of you.

      Jeanr. I was raised Catholic too and for years have had many questions trying to rectify science and religion. For your own peice of mind and for greater understanding try reading the histories of the worlds religions and reading the holy books. I have found the old testament of the bible has much information. Well anyway I have been reading some books called The Earth Chronicles and Genesis Revisited: Is Science Catching Up With Ancient Knowledge and The 12th Planet. The author meticulously backs up his conclusions. I though at first this stuff is kind of out there but it is backed with science and the bible and ultimately just helps to answere many questions and is very educational and may give you a better understanding of the world around us. Hope it helps you, I just try to be a better man everyday and do right by those I love and that helps my life become better all the time.

      @MR.GOODVIBE: You’re post is a good example in the diversity of Christianity and all religion. In my opinion all religion was influenced by ancient traditions, myths, customs, legends, etc. A good example would be similar bible stories like Noah’s Flood and the Epic of Gilgamesh.

      Before studing all the Religions that ever existed… I had the feeling that there was a God, but that I could not define that belief! Yet, you must select where that GOD is: OutSide the Universe; Inside the Universe, as on a Planet, or a Collective Energy (as in Atoms, or as in people or animals), or as gods in space… and this will establish the Form of Religion, where yours maybe a variation, that you believe exists!

      I am just saying… in this Area, there nothing new under the Sun!

      @mrgoodvibe Some of the wording in Genesis is interesting to me with regards to science and religion – In some ways it sounds kinda like evolution. On the whole however, I make theories about this or that, but it’s not a big concern of mine. How stuff got here isn’t really important as a christian – all I need to know is that Jesus is my lord and savior.
