(Updated) Raunchy Video Navy Captain Permanently ‘Relieved of His Command’

His last name may be Honors, but the Navy believes his actions bring anything but.
Even as the Navy continues its investigation into the raunchy videos created about five years ago by Capt. O.P. Honors aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise — videos that portray sex acts and openly mock gays — it has temporarily relieved him of his command. It‘s a move NBC News says all but seals the highly respected sailor’s fate:
UPDATE:
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — The Navy permanently removed a senior officer from command of his aircraft carrier Tuesday because of raunchy comedy videos he made and showed to the crew several years ago. The videos, which included anti-gay slurs and sexual innuendo, showed extremely poor judgment by Capt. Owen Honors, said the commander of U.S. Fleet Forces, Adm. John C. Harvey Jr.
“While Capt. Honors’ performance as commanding officer of USS Enterprise has been without incident, his profound lack of good judgment and professionalism while previously serving as executive officer on Enterprise calls into question his character and completely undermines his credibility to continue to serve effectively in command,” Harvey said in a statement read to reporters in Norfolk on Tuesday afternoon.
Harvey did not take questions, including why Honors is just now being relieved of command when the videos were made several years ago. They surfaced when the Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported on them.
Honors has been reassigned to an administrative role. Harvey said the Navy will look into what other officers aboard the USS Enterprise knew about the videos.
No phone listing was immediately available for Honors and he did not respond to e-mails.
The videos, from 2006 and 2007, feature Honors using gay slurs, pantomiming masturbation and staging suggestive shower scenes. They were played on the shipwide television system during weekly movie night when Honors was executive officer, or second in command, of the Enterprise. Honors had since become commander of the ship.
Over the weekend, the Navy at first downplayed the videos as humorous skits, then called them unacceptable and said they were being investigated.
“After personally reviewing the videos created while serving as executive officer,” Harvey said Tuesday, “I have lost confidence in Capt. Honors’ ability to lead effectively, and he is being held accountable for poor judgment and the inappropriate actions demonstrated in the videos that were created while he served as executive officer on Enterprise.”
The videos’ existence was not news to Navy higher-ups. In a statement to the Virginian-Pilot on Friday, the Navy said its leadership had put a stop to videos with “inappropriate content” on the Enterprise about four years ago.
Some sailors who served on the Enterprise have taken to Facebook to defend Honors and his video skits for providing a much-needed morale boost during long deployments at sea.
They portrayed Honors as a man who genuinely cared about his sailors and helped them blow off steam with corny and occasionally outrageous videos he concocted every week during six-month tours of duty in the Middle East at the height of the Iraq War. Maintaining morale is typically part of the executive officer’s job.
“He was a caring professional and, yes, he has a sense of humor, but you need that on a boat,” said Misty Davis, who served on the Enterprise from 2006 to 2010. The offending video was shown in 2007, and was a compilation of previous videos he had shown, she and others said.
Fiercely loyal crew members stood by Honors after Tuesday’s announcement. Rebecca Konshak, who said she was a hospital corpsman and viewed some of the videos, wrote in an e-mail that the Navy needs leaders who can bridge the gap between officers and enlisted personnel, and that was what Honors did.
She also said she believes the Navy should investigate who was “gunning for Captain Honors and why.”
“There are too many questions that need to be answered before all of Captain Honors supporters will be satisfied with this decision,” she said.

Posted on January 4, 2011 at 8:51amI’m sorry but I want raunchy captains in the navy. The raunchier and saltier the better. You know the kind of guy who would have the bullet belts for the machineguns run through a vat of pigs blood when doing battle in the middle-east. We actually had a commander that did that in WWII. We need more commanders like that today. Remember that movie Down Periscope? We need a captain with a tattoo on his d#!@* lol

Sooo, if a video sufaces showing some of our sailors praying constantly on board a US government ship there would be a massive uproar in the marxist MSM and their queer allies. That is,any kinds of praying except , repeating one more time for the first time, except praying on one’s flying carpet.
What, can’t have that. Religion on government property? Repeating again one more time for the first time, all religion except the approved religion of Mohammad the Sailor-man. Pop-Eye’s bro.
Cracking jokes about the practitioners of deviant behaviours (abominations) on government property?
What? Can’t have that.
The Captain should have spoken about the glories/wonders of the abomination lifestyles in that video and he would now be an Admiral for damn sure.

Posted on January 4, 2011 at 8:03amThe military is not a socially run program. Almost all the training and rules would shock most civies, and certainly all the liberals. Combat has its own rules, and the men and woman in it have little in the way of safety valves to let off steam…some of which are beyond normal reason outside the military. If the man is a finely trained top notch leader he belongs where he is, period. Jokes about gays?? get real…these people have to look you in the eye and tell you to kill or die for the good of the mission. Think about that.

Posted on January 4, 2011 at 2:23pmSpending six months out at sea on an a carrier, there is nothing but time. A carrier is a floating city apart from the real world. Keeping order and the crew occupied, motivated and ready for what ever may come is quite a challenge. A carrier is not a cruise ship, carrier life is a balance of work routine, time and dealing with being away from loved ones and the world for six months at a time. A carrier is not a democracy, it is a weapon that defends the freedoms that most people take for granted. There has to be a definite chain of command and a leader to make it work in peace and in war.
Before you start hammering on our heros who serve this country day in and out, why don’t you get a clue as to what they have to go through! I am amazed at the whole mind set of “kill people and break things to protect us but just don’t be rude!” Thank God for these people and their service to our country.

Posted on January 4, 2011 at 8:26amNow here’s where Capt. OP went wrong: you have to be way up the chain of command if you want to stay safe when you stray outside the lines. It also helps to be a Democrat too (right Barney Frank?), but that’s another story. Now, a guy named Christopher Hitchens wrote a little expose (No One Left to Lie To) on Bill Clinton where he pretty much nailed his hide to the barn door for going overboard with his unwanted sexual attentions he paid to a few ladies in the past. He even made a very strong case that he raped a woman named Juanita Brodderick. But look at him. He’s been everywhere, holding his head high and raking in some serious green in spite of that.
Now Capt. OP only made an off-color video in an successful attempt to boost moral on his ship and they want his head on a platter. The man has done a great job protecting all of us Americans for years and no real harm resulted from his attempt at humor. But some little spoil sport had to claim their “feeelings” were hurt. Now we all lose a great Capt that was doing his duty protecting all of us over nonsense. It’s kind of like firing the finest, most heroic lifeguard on the beach for having a girlie magazine in his locker. We all lose on this one.
It appears one has to have the liberal media on their side in this country these days. Political correctness may be destroying our nation, but that‘s what we’re all stuck with until some foreign power takes over this increasingly weak and fractured nation.

I should have clarified my point. I do not care what happened 4 years ago….that smells of witch hunt. Ditto!! and it goes without saying (but maybe I should have) that the liberal progressives are doing everything they can to soften the military. The military should make men hardened fighting machines. Not powder puff girly men or A** grabbers. At some point there will be fewer and fewer REAL men that want to serve. Thus the liberal progressives will have achieved their goal. Same applies to the Boys Clubs, Boy Scouts, etc. etc. There are things in this life that are all men and things that are all women. And the two should not me.

I saw nothing in the video to suggest Commander Honors is unfit for Command. The video (excerpts I saw anyhow) were sophomoric but I would not even suggest reprimand. There is competing suggestion that the NAVY recognized the ships performance during the time period when these video were taped -so clearly this is a sacrifice to the Navys’ openly gay sailors. The Dept. of the Navy is truly now the Village People

Posted on January 5, 2011 at 12:27amDo you know how Leaders are judged in the Navy?
Anyone who is E-7 through O-10 is not judged on what they do, but rather what the personnel they lead do.
This Captain’s crew is happier and accomplishing more. They are more focused when on watch, because they were able to unwind off-watch. When people laugh together, it creates an atmosphere that even people who really dislike one another at times will act more amicable towards each other. This means they work better as a team. Teams that work better together are more productive. I’ve seen officers relieved for bad moral.
So anyone that wants to know how he was promoted, it was because he knows how to positively motivate people.
