Civil Rights Leader Resigns From NAACP National Board Over Gay Marriage Endorsement

Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr. Resigns From NAACP Board Over Gay Marriage

The debate over gay marriage in the African American community continues to rage one month after President Barack Obama endorsed same-sex marriage. Weeks after the NAACP, an African-American civil rights organization, passed a resolution also backing gay marriage as a civil right, the Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr., a member of the organization’s national board, has resigned.

According to KCCI, Ratliff, who also served as the NAACP’s Iowa/Nebraska conference president, has been uncertain about his future role in the group since its decision to follow in Obama’s footsteps. On May 28, World Magazine reported:

The Rev. Keith A. Ratliff Sr. said he is “in prayer” about his relationship with the NAACP following its endorsement of same-sex marriage on May 19…“I’m against same-sex marriage,” he told CitizenLink. “There are a number of issues that the NAACP has to address and deal with, and I certainly don’t think same-sex marriage should be a top priority.” Ratliff added that the gay rights movement should not be compared with the civil rights movement: “There is not a parallel between the homosexual community and the struggles of African-Americans in our country. I haven’t seen any signs on any restrooms that say ‘For Homosexuals Only.’ Homosexuals do not have to sit on the back of the bus, as African-Americans had to.”

Rev. Keith Ratliff Sr. Resigns From NAACP Board Over Gay MarriageAfter prayer, it seems his decision has been solidified.

“I want to thank the NAACP for the privilege to humbly serve in such an organization and thank all those I had the privilege to work with in the states of Iowa, Nebraska and throughout the country,” Ratliff said in a statement announcing his decision to exit his leadership role in the nation’s oldest civil rights group.

In addition to his work with the group, Ratliff is also the pastor of Maple Street Missionary Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The Quad City Times expands upon the minister’s past history defending traditional marriage and railing against same-sex nuptials:

Ratliff has been an outspoken critic of same-sex marriage rights and has spoken at Statehouse rallies seeking an amendment to the Iowa Constitution to undo a controversial, landmark state Supreme Court ruling in April 2009 that gave legal status to civil marriages involving same-gender couples. The proposed constitutional amendment would define marriage in Iowa as only between one man and one woman. [...]

During a Statehouse rally in March 2011, Ratliff said his support for traditional marriage was biblically based, adding, “This isn’t a private interpretation, a Burger King religion, and by that I mean a ‘have it your way’ religion.”

Ratliff is the latest in a line of pastors and faith leaders to speak out against Obama’s stance on same-sex marriage.

Did you note his previous group wasn’t exactly looking out for you and yours? If a dude with the last name of Dukes said anything about any special interest group- I would laugh, if I actually listened. Show me the difference between naacp and kluckers sans violent lynchings? You got one special interest schmuck losing to another special interest in the donations and interest-so he makes a stand? A racist makes a stand and it means something? How?

      Fathers Day Idea ——
Every God fearing / loving Christian purchase a Christian flag to fly in front of their home.
The cross on the Christian flag stands for the invitation of Jesus Christ. This gives your family a witness. The flag stands for true freedom and salvation through the cross of Jesus Christ. God stated in the OT. write these ……upon the posts of your door and upon your gate posts. Christians need to stand up and be salt and light at a time evil is winning. Please fly the Christian flag if you are one. Both the US and Christian flag stand for freedom but the Christian flag also stands for believership in Jesus Christ. Ask your church to fly the Christian flag.

Now is the time to stand. Now is the time to hold back evil men and vile sin. Fly your colors. No one can make you take down the Christian flag.

The blacks in the NAACP despise homosexuals and do not want them in any society of theirs.

Then why do they openly state they support them?

Because they are putting themselves under the umbrella that is shared by many groups whose common goal is to deconstruct the white power base in this country.

Just like they openly speak of other non-whites in pretentious terms that are disingenuously designed to make it appear as if they’re all one big happy family, when actually none of them want to associate with or truly support any group but its own.

If whites were no longer in this country, there would be daily fights with each other that would have them taking up arms.

And all of them would hate the homosexual.

Every pluralistic society in the history of the world has broken apart, with most erupting into violent, bloody wars.

And this one will go the same way.

      Empires do not last.

Only mostly homogeneous societies like Japan, China and Korea can make it through the tough times, financially or societally.

Wow – another person who actually read the Bible. Obama listened for 20 years to a guy that didn’t read from the Bible and just made up stuff and screamed God loves you. He also used the Lords name in vain which the Bible warns against. Looks like a lot of Black Christians will jump ship. These radicals like B.P.’s, the Rev. al and Jessie Jackson has lost the Latino vote over the Zimmerman case.Things were done to him that the KKK used to do to African Americans.

African American “Christians” have been utterly SILENT regarding Obama’s support of abortion, late term abortion and partial birth abortion and NOW they are “coming out” and standing up for their “Christian” values…..really? Gal 5:16-23, John 14:15. I’m not the least impressed. This type of pick and choose lukewarm Christianity is what is keeping many people from accepting the truth of the Gospel. What they are really saying is pro abortion Christians should oppose gay marriage. Please.

This man at least has a chance to do something with his life. He needs to pray over this? It is plainly in the Bible. God called it an abomination. While the Rev. is praying, he might pray for knowlege to realize that all this racism by the NAACP is doing nothing but feeding those who are making a living off the backs of those who are supposed to be protected by it. There is not supposed to be but one set of Justice and America does not need the tribal councels such as seems to be what the NAACP is to interefere with Justice. They are just set up to bully those who CAN be bullied. It is getting ridiculous because they just like the high profile cases.

Yes, Rev. Ratliff needed to pray about it.

While the choice may have been very, very clear to him, you still have to make sure that you don’t run off at the mouth like some celebrities (”If Bush is elected, I’ll leave the country…) or make ridiculous statements (”Scott Walker will be indited in the next few days) or otherwise invalidate your standing in your community (”Herman Cain is probably well liked by some of the Republicans because it hides the racist elements of the Republican party.” – Janeane Garofalo).

Rev. Ratliff is leading his people, not offending them. [ http://thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/african-american-pastor-about-to-lose-church-over-gay-marriage-support/politics/2012/05/30/40231 ] He knew that the media would be all over this and so he prayed – for guidance, for protection – to say the right words in the right way so that people would understand what he was doing and why and respect him for it. He was standing up for the Word of God and that’s not to be taken lightly. There’s a cost.

      Preach it, Rev. Ratliff!!!!!

Recently a group of black pastors requested a meeting with President Obama in an attempt to convince him to continue his evolution on the issue of gay marriage. The pastors stated that Obama’s decision to speak in favor of gay marriage “broke” their hearts. I suspect that these pastors have not been granted an audience with The One because he’s completely indifferent to the beliefs or feeling of these supposed men of the cloth.

Personally, I’m grateful that Obama will refuse to meet with the pastors. Why should he. They have compromised their faith on every other anti-Christian position that Obama has taken so why should the pastors’ reaction or stance on gay marriage be of any concern to Obama.

I and I’m certain Obama, am convinced that these faithless reverends will find some rational explanation to continue their support for Obama. I know this because these same pastors were completely silent on the issue of Obama’s support for ABORTION, PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION AND INFANTICIDE. Yes, these pastors are heart broken over Obama’s support of gay marriage yet they gleefully supported him in 2008 and perhaps even now knowing his position on killing infants.

This pastor’s resignation falls into the same category as the other black pastors. Disgraceful.

Wow. I have a feeling as the black and latino communities see their ‘respected leaders’ make choices and publicly abide their own conscience as this man is doing, it may just be the final straw to have them decide to think for themselves. I think many ‘minorities’ have been teetering on the edge for a long time, split between staying stuck on the plantation (mainly out of intimidation, brainwashing and backlash) and speaking up for their own personal beliefs and conscience be it vocal or voting.
I have a feeling that this gay marriage thing is the final push some were looking for. I hope there are other leaders with real convictions that will follow suit and that this is not just an anomaly.

All of these Black Pastors that are “coming out” against Obama’s for supporting gay marriage have supported Obama despite being in favor of Partial Birth Abortions and also voting against saving babies that survive botched abortions. All of these Pastors who are standing up now have no credibility. Gal 5:16-23 says “16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you [b]please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: [c] immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, [d] factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law” Only if we obey the law are we no longer under the law. This idea that we are no longer under the law simply because we “believe” is a false teaching of man. Repent and be saved, obey Gods laws. John 14:15. God Bless

This isn’t going to change most of the lock in step die hards who stop at nothing to support Obama. This will turn the heads of moderates. SLightly left on center but would still vote for Obama. That is where I think the ground is going to collapse beneath him in the election. NAACP. I don‘t know what they’re going to do now. Honestly groups like churches & on the bad even the new black panthers will grow in strength. Both reject same sex marriage.

It is disappointing to watch black men pay forward to others the abuses they themselves have suffered.

Homosexualilty is not race. Race, on the otherhand, is no excuse for getting affirmative action benefits or discriminating against white people either. Both are unimportant when equality is taken into consideration The US does not have ‘liberty for all’ nor does it have ‘equality’. As long as it has a program that is set up to help one race over another the claims that we are all ‘equal’ is nothing but lying propaganda. Screw Washington d.c..

Wow, thank you for a nightcap of sound logic after a wonderful day filled with it. The homosexuals have been angling for a foothold in the Civil Rights movement for some time now. And it took the “Experimented in Ivy League College AND I’m (half) Black so it’s cool” Barry ‘Bi’ Bye O’bama to pimp the NAACP out: of all his smoke & mirrors, sleight-of-hand & parlor tricks I believe this one is his crowning achievement: Imagine, he ran game on hundreds of 60-75 year old black Baptist preachers!!! LOL! Bet Satan’s scared to death, Obama’s gonna be the #1 when he gets there, & ol‘ Slewfoot’s gonna be his do-boy!

Jesus spoke to him about being in a one race advancement group, then to quit that race based group to talk smack about another special interest group garnering too much attention, away from his original race based special interest group? That about right?

I’m having a little faith restored in some black Americans. These Americans have a limit as to how far they will blindly follow barack based on skin color.

We don’t need you to have faith in the black race.Just as black people shouldn’t have faith in the white race.My hope is in God,maybe you should try it!

95 % of whites should vote for the white guy. Isn’t that how black politics works. If blacks had integrity instead of a myopic color phobia America would soar.

This irrational obsession with the DNC to support the 1-2% of the population that is homosexual will help to bring on a massive defeat this fall. There has been no support for homosexual marriage in any state where it has been placed on the ballot. My advice to obama is GO FOR IT! Push homosexual marriage as the main plank in your perverted agenda and see how the American people respond.

…I guess Barry O and his minions will call him a ‘racist sell out uncle tom’ for his decision…This man stands on his principles and his Faith, kudos to him…Barry has ‘stretched’ his BS so far it has snapped and has come round to slap him dead square in the face.

They’ll have to call a majority of blacks “Uncle Toms” then b/c they don’t support same sex marriage.

13th Then it’s good that blacks comprise 12% of the population because if every black person voted for our gay president it won’t be enough because a sufficient number of whites have gotten over their white guilt,a Marxist POS president tends to do that,Barry‘s toast and he’ll be fired.
