Dem Congressman Calls for Hearing on ‘Radicalization of Christians in America’

Congressman Al Green Says He Wants Radicalization of Christians Hearing

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.)

Rep. Peter King’s (R-N.Y.) House hearings exploring the potential radicalization of American Muslims continue to be highly contentious. During the latest meeting, a startling, new proposal that came from a Congressional Democrat is sure to raise eyebrows.

On Wednesday, as King continued his exploration of the important issue, Texas Congressman Al Green (D) offered up a bizarre suggestion — that the federal government also hold a hearing on the “radicalization of Christianity.”

NJ.com provides an overview of the controversial gathering:

…[this was] the fifth in a controversial series of hearings on the threat to U.S. security posed by Islamic radicalization first convened by King in March 2011. As chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, King insists it’s his responsibility to investigate the threat. But critics including Democrats and some Muslim-American groups say King is on a McCarthy-esque witch hunt that runs counter to the Democratic ideals the 9/11 terrorists themselves were attacking.

King’s comments were consistent with the views of the three Muslim witnesses he had invited to testify.

Asra Nomani, a former Wall Street Journal reporter and author of “Standing Alone: An American Woman’s Struggle for the Soul of Islam,” testified that many non-Muslims were frustrated by the reluctance of Muslim-Americans to acknowledge the role that selective readings of the Koran can play in fostering terror.

See King’s opening statement from the hearing, below:

As stated, not everyone present agreed with King’s stance on the issue. Take, for instance, Green, the grandson of a Christian minister, who used his five-minute speech to claim that he opposes hearings that don’t look at radicalization in a more general sense. In making this statement, the lawmaker made it clear that he believes the government should be looking at every faith and not just Islam.

“People who see the hearings and never hear about the hearing on the radicalization of Christianity have to ask themselves, ‘Why is this missing?’” Green said, according to Newser. “Why don’t we go to the next step and ask, how is that a blue-eyed, blonde-haired, white female in the United States of America can become radicalized to the point of wanting to do harm to this country? We don’t have that type of hearing.”

“I do know what it feels like to look like a Muslim in the minds of some people and to be demeaned in a public venue. I look forward to the day that we’ll have that hearing that deals with the radicalization of Christians in America,” he added, according to a transcript created by Raw Story.

Watch Green’s five-minute testimony, below:

To this, King responded that Islam has a direct correlation to terrorism and that it is perfectly understandable why he and other members of Congress would express concern and investigate the issue.

“To deny that there’s any correlation between the Muslim faith and the biggest threat to this country today defies credulity,” the Homeland Security chair said. “When they’re looking for the Russian mob, they go to Breighton Beach and Coney Island [Russian immigrant neighborhoods]. That’s just good police work.”

Watch King also question some of his other witnesses, including Dr. Zuhdi Jasser:

In a special report released this month, the Council on American-Islamic Relations claims that King has done nothing to viably prove his theory that radicalization may be taking place (read the report here).

      @BruceP:
To answer your question about “your bible”…it does not teach ‘gender discrimination’; it does however teach the godly roles of men and women. The New Testament says there is no difference between male and female, Jew or Greek; bond or free (persons), but all are one in Christ Jesus. It goes on to say that marriage for instance is between a man and a woman, but I digress. As for practicing violence against those who aren’t keeping “our” laws, how can anyone believe that when the Bible emphatically states that we Christians are to love our enemies and pray for them? Maybe you should actually read the Bible before you go off on how awful it is. However, God in His infinite wisdom gave even you a way out; but if you don’t wish to take it, the Bible says it was written for those who want to believe and if that’s not you then why bother us with your uninformed blather?

Also, if you follow Green’s logic, all those blonde hair, blue eyed females are also all over the place. Look at the damage they’ve caused to this country! People love throwing around the “terrorism” description at the drop of a hat. This is done by liberals to blur the lines between what terrorism really is and a crime.

Actually, yes and no; if you stop reading the Bible half way through, then you could come away with that understanding of its message. However, if you read the whole thing, you’ll see that there is a difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The Old Covenant was gender biased and there is more than a little bloodshed. The New Covenant, however, makes allowances for the failings of humanity and provides for Grace over legalism. It still teaches sin. It still teaches a singularity of path. But it no longer calls for blood to settle our debt to G-d; by the end of the book, the debts been paid.

JGRAHAM, DISSENTERKNIGHT — I have read the Bible, therefore I know what what the Bible says…

“But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of every woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God…. any woman who prays or prophesies with her head unveiled dishonors her head …For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair …For a man ought not to cover his head; since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man…” — 1 Corinthians 11:2-10

“women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says, If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.” 1 Corinthians 14:34-35

“A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent…” — 1 Timothy 2:11-15

“Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord.” — Ephesians 5:22

As for that “Old Testament does not apply” nonsense…

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.” — Matthew 5:17-18

Why do you insist on using a worn out argument over something that happens about once in a decade. A person has a much bigger chance of being struck by lightning than an abortion doctor has being killed by someone who claims to be a Christian. In the very few cases where it does happen, they are denounced by 99 and 44/100 percent of Christians. Those who don’t are considered confused and wrong. And please don’t degrade your argument even more by bring Timothy McVeigh up. His cause was not against the government and not abortion.
Now let’s compare this to a muslim who decides to blow himself up in hope of killing some random person who might be an infidel and sending themselves to that big whorehouse in the sky. (By the way, the word they have translated the word “virgin” wrong. The correct translation is a white grape or raisin. Won’t they be surprised?) Every time these nut balls do their deeds, the muslim leadership tells the ash pile where they lit the fuse, what a good thing they did for allah

No!… Nigeria, Somalia, Afghanistan, Gaza, Turkey, Iraq, Lybia, Egypt every country muslims live in you hear about muslims blowing themselves up because of different factions. Yet at the same time I don’t see Christians doing it. Yes occasionally some so called Christian will hurt others; but in general, we don’t do it! Yet at the same time, I see muslims every day on the News Blowing people up for what? Because of Christians? NO, their doing it out of hate for their own people! As far as I’m concerned, keep killing your own people, that way when Our Lord and Savior comes back he has less to do! most of the verses you put on there you need to read on and include how the husband is to treat the wife. But the part that people get confused on is the “women submit and be quiet”. The was due to the fact in “Corinth”, many women were interrupting speakers during a sermon. Also, these new women Christians were trying to teach before they even understood God’s word. Also, it was highly unusual for women to teach men at that time.

God used many women as examples throughout the Bible: Ruth, Ester, Dorcas, Woman at the well, Mary Magdalene, Mary Jesus’ mother, the women at the tomb, Paul’s tent maker women friends..and on and on it goes.

Actually, women and children were treated as second class citizens by almost all cultures (Jews the exception) until Jesus radically changed that.

Furthermore, radical Christians are called to live a peaceable life that cares for others before self (Galatians 5:13-26)

      cessna152 – “Accurate”
Also, the actual word used in 1 Timothy 2:11–15 in the Greek is the word authentein and in the Context, within the noun, verb, and adjective forms, it means collectively: “religious sexual orgies,” “to dominate,” “to control,” “to restrain,” and “to domineer.”

So Paul was really trying to say: “This isn’t a place where we have a Dominatrix and BDSM Orgyfests, so if your into that sort of thing, yeah, that’s next door, but none of that shiite here.”

      Wow, one group of people.

So by that logic, all poor people are welfare queens, all gays dress like to dress in drag, and all hispanics are illegals. Man I love stereotyping, especially when the self righteous atheists and liberals are engaging in it.

These groups being investigated HAVE had ties to terror groups, they have provided material and monetary support for those groups. If RICO was unleashed on them, they’d probably lose everything they had because of it.

      @Weiss and Philly

More people were killed by the bombs made by Obama‘s pal Bill Ayres and his wife in the 1970’s than were ever killed by a few anti abortionist fantatics. How about the innocent people killed in NYC by the bombs made by Puerto Rican terrorists: the FALN ? Too bad you don’t have a few words of sympathy for the estimated 40 million unborn babies killed since roe vs wade (1973) by the liberal’s war on the unborn.

This is why it is important to eliminate misleading and deceptive language. Muslims do not “get radicalized”, “become terrorists”, or turn into “radicalized Islamists”. These are bogus labels behind which the enemy hides.

Americans should name the enemy; Muslims engaged in Jihad.

Americans should name the goal; the destruction of the Constitution and the implementation of Sharia law and Islamic culture.

Americans should take the offense; outlaw Islam, close mosques, deport muslims.

What is “radical” islam? To muslims, there is only islam. When we qualify, we act as dhimmis. Why are we self-imposing dhimmitude?

Islam is a political philosophy at odds with personal freedom, peace, love and individualism. Therefore, islam is the enemy of freedom, ergo every muslim is the enemy of freedom. Islam is not a religion and should be banned in America, Europe—anywhere sane people want to live and work in peace and freedom.

Islam is Darkness, a philosophical Black Plague sweeping the planet. It needs to be eradicated.

Yes that is true. However you failed to connect several other dots to the frame. At the same time the treasury gave churches the power to incorporate as non profits. They gave them tax exempt status as well. This insulted those who went to church for faith, rather than business reasons.Paradoxically the failure to go to church was seen as a manifest of alledged communism.
      Note
it also made attending chuch very unpleasant.More business deals were made in churchs than at the office.

I have known Alexander Green for many years long before he became a member of Congress. He even married my wife and I in a very touching ceremony. That said, since he has gone to Washington the man has drastically changed and not for the better. I do not even recognize the man anymore.. Since going to Washington and becoming immersed in the Democrat Party he has become such a radical and his thinking has changed so far left that at times I hate to admit that I even know the man. The radicalism that is going to be the destruction of this nation and is going to kill a lot of us is coming from the Progressive Democrat Party. They are living in an alternative universe of make believe and have lost all concept of reality.

Green, like many others in the left, is trying to deflect attention away from the real issue. Muslim violence is a worldwide problem and its easy to see that Islamic radicalism is everywhere. There are mot many dangerously radical Christians so there is no need for any hearings.

Muslim violence is inconvenient for the left because it exposes as a fallacy their belief that all peoples, cultures, nations and faiths are equivalent. It is obvious to anyone that thinks that some cultures do better than others, that some ideas are superior, and that not all faiths lead to the same place.

Nowhere in the Constitution is “separation of church and state” mentioned. That wording comes from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to a group of Baptists late in his life. The Constitution does say that the government shall neither favor nor discriminate against any religion.
