Reason’s Nick Gillespie Blasts Rachel Maddow & Bill Maher Over Fast and Furious Partisanship

According to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, the investigation into the disastrous and reckless operation known as “Fast and Furious” has nothing to do with the deplorable gun-walking tactics used, hundreds of dead Mexican citizens, Attorney General Eric Holder’s misleading testimony, or slain U.S. Border Agent Brian Terry. It’s all about a “crazy conspiracy theory.”
Maddow went on HBO’s “Real Time” with Bill Maher Friday night and explained that the scandal– which neither of them consider it to be– is motivated only by the belief that President Obama and Eric Holder are trying to take away all the guns in the country. Though there were no conservatives on Maher’s panel, Reason Editor-in-Chief Nick Gillespie, representing a rare voice of reason and logic on the show, refused to let Maddow or Maher go unchallenged in some of their questionable assertions about Fast and Furious. He says he is not part of the “right,” meaning Republican or conservative.

After admitting that he was “one of those people” who didn’t know about Fast and Furious until last week, which is incredibly hard to believe, Maher went on to do what he does best: offend people.
“First of all, let me just say, Republicans don’t care about dead Mexicans,” he said. After a lengthy pause, the audience responded with scattered applause.”I think those 200 dead Mexicans would be dead even if we hadn’t sold them guns. They would have gotten the guns somewhere else. So is this really a scandal?”
After that not-so-convincing argument, Maddow made her case that the Fast and Furious investigation is “based on a crazy conspiracy theory that the Obama administration is fomenting gun violence in Mexico in order to make Americans anti-gun so they can rescind the Second Amendment.”
“When you listen to Republicans in Congress talk about why they’re doing it, its all about the conspiracy theory,” she added.
“No, no, wait, wait, wait,” Gillespie chimed in.
Correcting Maddow, he said the scandal is not about a conspiracy, but about the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) carrying out a dangerous operation and selling guns to Mexican drug cartels without even informing the Mexican government.
“So you have Eric Holder saying, ‘no this wasn’t going on‘ then it’s ‘oh, yes it is going on.’ This is a massive screw up and there is something worth checking out here,” he said. “It isn’t about whether or not Obama is going to take away the second amendment or anything like that. Eric Holder doesn’t know whats going on in the organizations that he runs.”
Maher started to get a little testy saying, “[Fast and Furious] failed. I grant you, it failed… it bothers me that this country punishes failure so much.”

Then for the first time since the segment began, Gillespie finally mentioned one of the most important parts of the Fast and Furious probe: Brian Terry.
“And we are talking about a border agent was killed by one of the guns or two of the guns among the thousands of guns that went missing, so yeah, this is a real story,” he added.
This frustrated Maddow, likely because it is hard to disagree with that point. Responding to the mentioning of Terry, her partisanship really started to show.
“When the right gets really upset about there being illegal gun sales that don‘t have to do with the conspiracy about ’Obama and Holder taking away all your guns,’ then I think we can talk about it,” she declared.
“You are not part of the right are you?” Gillespie asked U.S. News and World Report’s Mort Zuckerman, who was also on Maher’s panel last night but barely got a word in during the segment. “No, and neither am I, so I’m interested in talking about it.”
This is when things started to get pretty tense. Gillespie accused Maddow of being forced by her “Democratic partisanship” to automatically side against Republicans.
“I’m just trying to say a nice thing, and you’re already, ‘You’re a hack!’ Listen, dude, I’m not even a Democrat!” Maddow said.
“That’s not what I’m saying…” Gillespie started. ”You will always take the side of a Democrat over a Republican.”
“No, I won’t. You don’t even know me.”

But Gillespie didn’t relent.
“All I’m saying is I refuse to be put into a false choice of like, you are either with the Democrats or the Republicans. This conservation has been framed as: ‘Aren’t the Republicans just doing this as a show trial, etc. Eric Holder is bad, the Republicans are bad, the drug war is bad. There is a lot of badness in this world.”
Maher agreed with two of his three examples of things that are “bad.” It shouldn’t be difficult to figure out which ones.

Fast and Furious wasn’t about Mexican drug cartels. If it was, they would have tracked the weapons, like the Bush administration tried to do with operation Wide Receiver, then ended in 2007, when the not-so-stupid drug cartels began to locate and destroy the tracking devices.
Fast and Furious was about generating statistics to support a ban on US made and sold semi-automatic weapons, nefariously referred to by the Obamunist regime as “assault weapons”, and greater restrictions on free American‘s second Amendment’s rights.
Obama and Holder’s DOJ doesn’t give a tinkers damn about the lives of the murdered Mexicans or US Border Agents.

The guns where to be found by Mexican law enforcement and blamed on the US. If this had never come to light the administration would have plenty of (ammo) excuses to pass legislation on gun laws.

Report Post »Here is the question. What was the point of the operation? This was going on as Hillary Clinton was saying that most gun violence in Mexico was the result of US guns crossing the border. They did this to give this assertion credibility. The gun dealers themselves questioned the purchases and were told to go ahead. If the point was to catch and arrest “straw buyers” why were none arrested? There is no plausible explanation to the operation OTHER than to allow those guns across to make an issue of legal gun ownership in the US. Hillary is still trying to sign on to a UN treaty that would ban sales of “small arms” to private citizens world wide. I can connect the dots. Rachel doesn’t know or chooses not to tell the whole story. I believe the latter. BTW you are an idiot.

The night of the contempt vote she laid out ‘the facts’ to her viewers (wonder if she knows most are like me–watch the enemy and know what they’re thinking…) and it was astounding. She insisted the whole thing was started by some right wing blogger back in 2010 election cycle that told everyone to go break windows of DNC buildings. Now this blogger started a conspiracy theory about second amendment rights being threatened and and the whole right wing is in a delirium–mind you, from one crazy blogger from a place that I, personally, have never heard of. The delusion goes on for 2 segments.

The real truth is that 400 guns were allowed to walk during the Bush administration. This program was called “wide receiver”. All 400 guns were tracked with a “RFID” tracer. Mexican government were informed and they knew exactly where the guns were. Once the cartels were made aware of the bugs on the guns, they destroyed the bugs. So the program was of no use any more and was discontinued in 2007.
Carney is a liar, Obama is a LIAR, and Eric the “COWARD” Holder is a LIAR.

Billy says horrible things about the Palin’s children, not one person came forth and defended these children, except Fox News. Also, he said that he didn’t know about the fast and furious operation until last week, I find that hard to believe, it has been in the news for at least a couple of months. Obama and Eric Holder have a lot to hide, they are the snakes in the grass that we all must seek out the snakes and be rid of them. One of our border agents died because of their negligence.

Bill Maher claims he never heard of it until it recently hit the news, then he claims that Issa asked him a year ago if he was gonna talk about it. He lied and the zombies in the audience cheer. He then goes on to say that those Mexicans would find another way to kill each other ( Over 200 people and counting) regardless of whether the guns were INTENTIONALLY lost or not. They can and do recieve the majority of the guns used in violence from sources other than the United States.

Now on the political side I just can not understand why as Americans why we can not just standup for right and stand against wrong. Every stinking time we have a problem it’s either Republicans did this or Democrats did that. These people who are suposed to be our representitives are individuals. We need to quit labeling our politicians and judge them on their records from local Government and elect the ones that best represent our values and the people who never served in small controlable local Government need not be elected into the Federal Government. Look at it this way, you wouldn’t buy a car without driving it first would you? Well, same principle here. And one more thing, if you want to, I mean really want to take our Government back then we need to go back to the days when your State Legistlators appointed our Senators and we elected our Congressman. Nobody talks about this, not even Glenn Beck, but, we would have a lot more control over them and what they do. I know I’m off subject here, but, somebody had to say this. Wow, cured my headache.

Israel has been under rocket attack from Gaza for a week now. Netanyahu is taking a hard line against the attackers. I read one report that said 150 rockets had been fired into Israel since last Monday. Iron Dome has been activated a number of times. It isn’t looking good in Israel now. A plan that has been in the works for months now has been finalized between Saudi Arabia and China.
Since sanctions have been placed against oil exports from Iran, China needs more oil and has signed a pact with Saudi Arabia……..a trade so to speak……oil for China in exchange for nuclear technology for Saudia Arabia. Chinese military will be posted in Saudia Arabia to guard refineries.
Maybe some of you knew about the China/SA deal but I only heard about it yesterday.

Rights aren’t a present the government gives us, you’re born having rights that your creator gave you, and we all have the same creator.
