Social Security Administration Requests Massive Amounts of .357 Ammo — But Why?

Social Security Administration Requests 174,000 Rounds of .357 AmmoFirst the Department of Homeland Security ordered 450 million rounds of ammunition, then the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) submitted an order for 46,000 rounds of high powered ammo, and now Business Insider reports that the Social Security Administration is asking to purchase 174,000 rounds of .357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point bullets.

This type of ammunition is arguably one of the more powerful available. R.K. Campbell at Gun Blast describes his experience with the .357 ammo:

“I observed the effect of the .357 Magnum 125 grain JHP once over the top of my own sights. The effect was gruesome.  A solid hit that produced a severe blood flow AND dramatic effect from the rear, including lung tissue thrown perhaps three feet.”

The purchase request from SSA was discovered at FBO.gov. What the agency plans on doing with these bullets is still unclear at this point, but the move has set the internet ablaze with speculation.

Business Insider has more details on the story:

The 125 grain and JHP (jacketed rounds) are exactly the ones requested by the SSA and their offices of Inspector General and Office of Investigation.

The FBO has a link that lists all locations slated to receive the batches of bullets. Offices like Greensboro, NC are getting a mere 1,000 rounds while offices like Iselin, NJ are getting 10 times that number.

Alex Jones’ InfoWars is quick to point out that this acquisition jibes with a DHS operation in January where the agency swarmed a Leesburg, FL social security office and posted armed guards outside the doors.

Yesterday, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said that a “clerical error” led to the National Weather Service requesting to buy 46,000 rounds of ammunition for semiautomatic pistols, the Washington Post reported.

Despite the solicitation specifically naming the National Weather Service, NWS spokesman Chris Vaccaro said the ammunition is not for the agency. Instead, he says the solicitation indicates that the ammo is to be delivered to “NMFS” or the National Marine Fisheries Service, also under the NOAA umbrella.

NOAA‘s website describes NMFS’s law enforcement function as “dedicated to enforcing laws that conserve and protect our nation’s living marine resources and their natural habitat. Our goal is to assure that the many people who enjoy these resources for recreation or rely on them for business follow the rules that will maintain the species for future generations.”

Shortly after the initial reporting of the story, NOAA spokesman Scott Smullen emailed the following statement to the Washington Post, clarifying the ammunition order is for NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement:

“Due to a clerical error in the federal business vendor process, a solicitation for ammunition and targets for the NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement mistakenly identified NOAA’s National Weather Service as the requesting office. The error is being fixed and will soon appear correctly in the electronic federal bidding system. The ammunition is standard issue for many law enforcement agencies and it will be used by 63 NOAA enforcement agents in their twice annual target qualifications and training.”

The Washington Post points out that NOAA is not a stranger to odd solicitation orders. The agency previously withdrew a $5,000 solicitation for a magician to motivate employees at a leadership training seminar.

In March, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) awarded defense contractor ATK with an “Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) agreement” for .40 caliber hollow point ammunition. According to the ATK press release from earlier this year, U.S. agents are scheduled to get 450 million rounds over a five-year period.

This story has been updated for clarity.

Are they getting ready for the assault on their headquarters when the Social Security System totally runs out of money? Will it look like the French Revolution with vast crowds storming Washington DC and government buildings? Is the administration running scared OR are they planning something far more sinsiter like Martial Law after the election should they lose?

I wouldn’t put anything past the Chicago Hoodlums in charge now!!!!!

This crap in nothing other than a psychological warfare operation against the American people. A psy-op is when one side attempts to demoralize another by leaking propaganda making it appear as though they have greater ability than they actually do. Of course it is not limited to that but that is what they are doing. Trying to scare us into thinking they can’t be beat.

Obama is preparing for a massive grab for power after he falls in the election; most of us have figured he would go for broke and declare either maritial law, or just up and nullify the elections once and for all as a dictator. This sounds more and more that, aside from Homeland Insecurity, he has a private army gathering (say the radicals) that will rise up to his side, along wit the unions and the Occupy movement.

Obama will nnt go away willingly or easily, and I can all too easily see a dictatorship being prepared.

I think it is more likely the Communist-in-Chief is planning to declare martial law BEFORE the election after which he will declare himself our “Dear Leader for Life”. I will be very surprised if we actually get the chance to vote, since that lying Communist POS cannot POSSIBLY believe he could win an honest election. If he is not sure his friends can steal the election with their planned criminal activities at the ballot box and when the ballots are counted, then he will declare martial law and suspend the elections altogether. Does anybody REALLY believe this egomaniacal, power-mad POS is going to VOLUNTARILY allow himself to be removed from power by the Democratic voting process? I think not! NOTHING in what I have seen of him so far indicates he would allow this to happen, and I believe he would use every illegally-seized power at his disposal to prevent it.

This is what happend when Obama was elected – all Ammo was on back order of and avg. of 6 months. Some of the .45ACP and 30-30 and 30.06 where on BO for a year. Of course guns were on Back Order and price went up 30% in the process.

With the military purchase of large amounts of ammo some calibers of ammo has been scarce for a while. Now the government is ordering large amounts of ammo for departments not normally associated with needing ammo. I think the purpose of this is to make ammo hard to find for the average citizen. We have seen this regime do anything necessary to achieve their goals over and over again. If they can’t make gun ownership illegal then they will make it almost impossible to get ammo for your guns.

HOLLOW POINT ROUNDS VIOLATE GENEVA RULES OF WAR

If the US Government that is already becoming a rogue government under Obama intends to use hollow point rounds against its own people in violation of international law, the American people will just have to not take prisoners. These rounds will eventually fall into the hands or Americans and will be used against Rogue Forces supporting the Obama Regime.

The Federal Government is not purchasing these kinds of weapons for fun, they intend using them against our people because they tear human bodies to pieces when they hit. A government that plans to do this to their own people no longer has the right to govern and will be removed.

Well Americans can still order and own these mush making hollow point rounds. Most body armor fabric cannot withstand several hits of these rounds in the same area, the razor sharp edges of the expanding hollow round buzz saws into the fabric weakening it. The 50 cal Minni ball used in the US Civil War did similar damage to human bodies and it did not deter Southern Armed Forces from fighting Northern Armed Forces. Notice this doesn’t say to protect and defend the Constitution, but instead says to achieve national security objectives “that we’ve set”. I think other comments here about Obama planning for a power gram may well be right. It may be well time for We The People to defend ourselves against that old tyranny.

This activity, militarization of domestic agencies, has been going on for years. With 9/11 it’s like it grew on steroids. Seems that most if not all agencies of the Federal government now have been granted police powers that were formerly reserved for the FBI, U.S. Marshal service and Border Patrol.
WSJ had an article not long ago about the police powers of federal departments. Seems almost anyone can be deputized any more then have a purchasing agent buy them all kinds of neat toys so they can play Seal Team 6.

Crisis looms on all of our horizons and even those in bed with them…they just don’t know it yet. I don’t know exactly what it will look like but I know its coming! He’s been prepping for this since he took office. Its one pen stroke here, one pen stroke there. Another War is brewing as we slumber here at home. Will this be the trigger? Econ is tipping in the balance, will this be the trigger as the collapse of the almighty dollar sends the USA into a riot fest of epic proportions.

Its all plausible and more! Will he signal to our enemies that the USA is ready to be attacked and stand back and not respond appropriately? Could be as a Russian sub patrolled undetected for a whole month, last month with Russian bombers making incursions into Alaska airspace during the same period.

Are these purchases of ammo merely to deplete stocks so the preppers can’t stock up as they already have been doing in record numbers. Many things to consider folks but as for me and mine, we serve the Lord and lean on him for understanding and guidance. Some of that guidance is to prep up a lil and hopefully bridge the gap between chaos and normalcy.

Either way, who the heck uses hollow points for target qualifications? You use standard FMJ, or ball ammo for training. The only time you run a few clips of hollow points (more expensive) through your semi-auto (revolvers don’t apply for this) is to make sure your chosen self defense ammo has no reliability(feeding, and extraction) issues due to the bullets shape/profile. 46,000 rounds of hollow points for 63 agents to be used in bi-annual target qualifications? That’s 365 bullets per agent per qualification. Think those guys should get to run through 20 to 24 clips each to prove they can hit a target, and be deemed “qualified”? I’m calling Bacon Sandwich on this one.

As to the bullet weight, a 158 grain Flat Nose is a common round, but there’s a huge (OK- dozen or so) variety of bullets that can be bought in .357-38 caliber. 115 grain bullets are great small game rounds, and zippy in my rifle.

Yeah – he’s preparing to arm his “civilian security force” that is as large and well-armed as the military” (HIS WORDS, out of his OWN MOUTH!) which he has been so desperately wanting to–and probably has been creating in secret–ever since he has been in office. Despite the fact that sch a “civilian army” is TOTALLY illegal and unconstitutional. Of course being unconstitutional never stopped him before, so why would this be any different?

Would it be redundant to point out that a Constitutional Government, with the “consent of the governed” would have no NEED of such a force? There is a reason that private gun and ammo sales are through the roof and increasing daily. Could it be because things have come to such a sorry pass that the American people FEAR AND DISTRUST their own government?

What US General would permit his troops to use these illegal bullets in a Civil War. If the Rogue Government looses , the US Generals will face War Crime Charges. Would Democrats take the blame for their orders? No US General or flag rank officer can use the defense that they were only following orders. The Nuremberg War Crimes Trial voided that defense.

American will form a provisional government that will legally issue a declaration of war so that the Obama Rogue Government in Washington would face condemnation from the World for violation of International Law. Wait till the foreign press shows videos of elderly Americans torn to pieces like hamburger by these hollow point rounds.

There are no rules in war, particularly if the war is a government against their people. The world will not give a rats patooty about what happens to Americans. They don’t like us. They don’t like our freedoms or our success. They want the US to flounder and disappear. Obama will be able to rely on his **** generals and panty waist platoons. Any oath keepers and patriots in the service will be rounded up first. The rest will do what they are told. Rather than hoping for outrage and help from beyond our borders, it is better to be prepared to shoot first and evade.

@Muffythetuffy – Yes, hollow point ammo (specifically “dumb-dumb” rounds) is a violation of the Geneva Conventions, but almost every civilian law enforcement agency in the free world carries some variation of the hollow point round. Military ammo is almost exclusively jacketed “ball” meaning the projectiles are jacketed in copper. Civilian law enforcement (including non-military Federal Law Enforcement agencies) is not governed by the Geneva Conventions, thankfully. Military “ball” ammo does not mushroom, it sometimes travels through the target and strikes a secondary target, which is fine on a battlefield, but not in an urban environment where a bullet passing through the intended target may have enough energy to travel a significant distance and strike an unintended target, (7 y.o. girl on her trike, 2 blocks away, for instance). Hollow point, or “controlled expansion” rounds generally stay inside a target (bad guy) because they expand and bleed off energy because of the drag caused by the expanding projectile. The kinetic energy is transferred to the target creating what some folks refer to as “Stopping” or Knock Down” power.

The Geneva Convention doesn’t apply to most U.S. armed forces. As I recall, we weren’t signatory to most of its protocols (at least, that‘s what I’ve been told by more than a few people). Additionally, the Geneva convention doesn’t apply to the weapons of war, only to how people are treated and the “rules of war” regarding human beings. The Hague Convention deals with the hardware aspects of war.

I hope that when they come to round up the Tea Party that they are carrying 357‘s and 40’s. Those are not “martial law” loadouts. You send a bunch of government flunkies out to quell an insurrection (their word from the battleplan scenario…not mine) and your going to have a bunch of dead flunkies with .308, 5.56, and 7.62 and 30-06 holes in them and full magazines.

Maybe preparing for the great privately-owned gun round-up and seizure after they sign that filthy Agenda 21 agreement with the UN? If so, we are well within our rights to offer ARMED RESISTANCE, because signing such an agreement is ILLEGAL by the Constitution, which says NO treaty or agreement with a foreign nation or nations can supercede any clause of the Constitution, which this one does–it attempts to override the Second Amendment, which is CLEARLY illegal. The Constitution also says any such treaty or agreement must be ratified by Congress–when was the last time the Great Eared One bothered with that little legal nicety?

Who does target qualifications with .357 ammo? In the military, we used .45′s (at least in the Navy). Most cops carry GLOCK 9mm or 45′s. Something don’t add up. A .357 is usually a revolver and is not accurate far away. It’s for killing someone fairly close to you, not injuring. Maybe it’s for shooting bears? That’s about the only reason I could think Fish and Wildlife people needing them.
