From a far, Occupy Wall Street and the Tea Party may appear to be similar. A base of grassroots organization, populist sentiments, occasionally costumed protesters. But while the Tea Party has caucuses of elected officials in both chambers of Congress, has sponsored presidential primary debates, and toppled the careers of several elder statesmen, Occupy Wall Street has little to show for themselves in electoral success or legitimate influence in either party. With only the destruction of property and hundreds of arrests to their name, the Occupy Wall Street mob has dwindled to a less-focused, rag-tag coalition of multiple progressive causes who underwhelmed in what was suppose to be their triumphant “May Day” return.
However, the far-left movement may be finding their stride once again by refocusing on their original message. Protesters came in large numbers and made their voices heard at the Bank of America‘s shareholders’ meeting in Charlotte Wednesday, where the group could return this September for the Democratic National Convention. Reuters reports:
Hundreds of demonstrators marched outside Bank of America Corp’s annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday to voice anger over issues ranging from foreclosures to corporate taxes to financing for the coal industry.
The meeting, held in the bank’s headquarters city of Charlotte, North Carolina, has drawn protesters in the past, but the crowd this year was bigger than any time in recent memory.
By 11 a.m., the crowd was estimated at 700 to 800, Jen Soriano, a spokeswoman for Unity, an alliance of groups participating in the protest.
On “Real News” Wednesday, Buck Sexton analyzed the progression and comparisons of the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street, and what the progressive group may be planning to move their message from solely rhetoric, to influencing actul reform.

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 8:22pmI became a Republican when I was old enough to vote, as Reagan was a man I wanted to follow and be like. Now consultants, pundits and the media have steered away from Conservatism, and the result of this is that the current Republican party is taking us into Socialism just a little slower than the Democrat party.
The Tea party now gets my money, voice and support as they are the only ones willing to stand up for individual rights, limited government, lowering EVERYONE’S taxes, thus lowering prices and increasing production=increasing prosperity and security.

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 8:36pmYeah but people like West and Rubio who are so called champions of the Tea Party movement vote for bills that kill civil liberties and they vote to raise the debt ceiling. Its flip flopping, saying one thing to voted in and doing another.

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 8:18pmIn 2007 when the Tea Party started they were ticked off about the Patriot Act, DHS too. Buck neglected to metion civil liberties as part of the Tea Parties agenda. So many people here seem fine with Tea Party politicians who have since shredded civil liberties worse than W. So, does the Tea Party want to protect our civil liberties or not? Is it even part of their platform anymore? Because honestly it’s the most important issue to me.

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 8:30pmI am with you brother. They are all oath breakers all of them. oathkeepers.org… live free or die, I honestly believe most Americans do not understand that some of us truly believe in our individual freedoms. Without our liberty and our faith in God we have nothing. So I would rather die than be bound by Government control.

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 8:32pmIf you are supporting bills like the Patriot Act, NDAA, and CISPA you are not a Tea Party minded person. If you are trying to nominate a guy for president that has a budget that doesnt cut current spending levels you are either not a Tea Party minded person or ignorant.

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 9:15pmYeah right. Seems though the media, Blaze included, are still calling politicians who don’t believe in civil liberties tea. What’s up with that? It appears this is the way the tea party has been co-opted. Is the tea party grass roots or media/establishment driven? Bachman, for instance is the leader of the tea party caucus in congress when she obviously cares little about freedom. I watched that video from 2007 where they threw boxes with stuff they hated about the government written on them into the water. Hardly a peep against any of those things from supposed Tea Party members in Washington. Why is that?

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 8:12pmThe Occupy movements is NOT a grassroots movement. It is not even an American movement. Occupy was founded by Adbusters , an ANTI-CAPITALIST , Canadian group. Apparently SEIU , a union, paid rent for the New York Occupy group. Just a nice group of international Far Lefties. Am sure there are other Far Left groups also involved in this.

Posted on May 9, 2012 at 8:07pmThe Tea Party is an organic, grass-roots effort to return America to our founding principles.
The OCCUPY movement is a machination of the ‘obama 2012’ campaign created solely to divide and destroy America through carefully choreographed and scheduled violent, anarchistic uprisings.
The Tea Party = America. OCCUPY = obama.
