‘Real News From The Blaze’: Conflict Begins to Spread Beyond Syrian Borders

The Syrian conflict continued during a brutal and escalating day Wednesday, as insurgents claimed responsibility for exploding a fuel tanker near a hotel housing the United Nations in Demascus, and 30 Syrians were abducted inside Lebanese territory by a powerful Lebanese Shiite family in response to a relative kidnapped inside Syria. The Free Syrian Army has claimed responsibility for the bombing, and the Shiite Lebanese family allegedly support the Assad regime and are seeking to trade their captives for kidnapped relatives.
The Associated Press also reports that Syrian fighter jets carried out two bombing runs over the rebel-held town of Azaz Wednesday, killing at least eight, including a baby, while injuring dozens of other civilians who were mostly women and children.
As the Syrian war appears to be maintaing a bloody level of violence, it’s spilling over beyond its borders to Lebanon, and on Tuesday Defense Secretary Leon Panetta explicitly stated that there is a “growing presence” of Iran in the conflict, allegedly aiding the Syrian regime.
Joined by Jonathan Schanzer of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, the “Real News” roundtable Wednesday reviewed the latest developments in Syria and whether the region has begun to destabilize. Watch a clip from the show below:

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 10:03pmThis may spill over into both Iran and Israel if/when Al-Qaida gains control over Syria:
——————————————–
Report Post »“One Qaeda operative, a 56-year-old known as Abu Thuha who lives in the Hawija district near Kirkuk in Iraq, spoke to an Iraqi reporter for The New York Times on Tuesday. “We have experience now fighting the Americans, and more experience now with the Syrian revolution,” he said. “Our big hope is to form a Syrian-Iraqi Islamic state for all Muslims, and then announce our war against Iran and Israel, and free Palestine.”

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 10:56pmAl-Qaeda won’t get control, not compatible with Syrians, but what we are worried about is that they get control over some of Assad’s Bioweapons. And don‘t you know it’s occured to them. That’s their lottery winner, not piss-ant Syria. Syria didn‘t have security over their ttop leader’s meeting, they may not have control over some of the WMD.

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 12:41amBut yeah, that‘s always Assad’s ace in the hole, if everything else fails, attack Israel.
Won’t pan out for him, but if there’s nothing to lose, i‘ts far from certain the Muslims would fight on Israel’s side.
Had an article about a month ago in the Jerusalem Post, saying the Israelis would come to the rescue of the Alawites if they are facing genocide. Could be self-serving, don’t attack us, we will save you. And could be simple morality. And after all, ancient Hebrew is the same as ancient Phoenician, they are distantly related.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 9:45pmWe couldn’t find massive SCUDS in the empty Iraqi desert, with F-15′s flying overhead. We had no clue if Hussein (Saddam), happened to have WMD at the moment or not.
And they expect us to believe we have some remote clue that the WMD are still “safe” or whatever? (Or that we had a clue where the Russian ICBM’s were and are, since they are far more clever than Hussein (Saddam), and have much better places to hide them than the empty desert of SouthWestern Iraq.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 9:39pmThe Alawites are fascinating. They are the remnants of the Phoenicians and run Morocco too despite being an even smaller minority there.
They aren’t even remotely Muslim and for 1300 years, not considered a Muslim by any Muslims or Christians. They are far more like the Christians, they honor Christmas, Mary Magdela, John the Baptist etc and observe no Muslim rituals whatsoever. No bowing, no mosque, no nothing. Their religion is the same as the Phoenicians of the time of Jesus and before.
To be an Alawite, BOTH parents have to be an Alawite, no exceptions ever. The Syrians call them the “Germans” because they look so different, (and act and dress like Europeans.)
So, the two groups, are a very different religion, and very different genetics, with 1300 years of grudges, in a civil war. All the ingredients for geocide.
Hard to imagine anything worse, but it is. The inevitably losing side (unless they exterminate the Muslims…and there would be objections), has horrific WMD. An no, WMD aren’t a myth GW invented, they actually do exist.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 9:24pmHere’s what matters…
1. The Assad crime syndicate has WMD that are horrific beyond imagination.
2. The Assad crime syndicate (and the Alawites in general, pretty much) are certain the Muslims will genocidally exterminate them.
3. The Assads (and the Alawites in general, pretty much) will never ever give up those WMD, when facing genocide.
4. Those same WMD can end civilization as we know it, and plunge the world into a Great Depression. All your civil rights will be gone, And that’s about the best you can hope for, we could end up back in the stone age.
The Turks, the US, the Russians, everyone, is basing all their decisions on those facts. That Russia is stopping us is part of the act.
We haven’t given the Muslims any weapons at all. Neither have the Saudis or anyone else. No one wants those WMD to be used on them.

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 9:14pmMan, you are wrong about that. Some of Assad’s Chem/Bioweapons cross the Mexican border in a suitcase, with a plan, the economy will collapse, at a minimum. As will all our civil rights.

Hitler wasn’t our problem in the 30 & wouldn’t have been in the 40s either. And yet we went to war & it was the right decision. We started supplying Britain & ramping up war production before Pearl Harbor.
Hitler wrote that U.S. was a mongrel nation. After devouring Europe, Hitler would have turned on the U.S. Isolationism does not work. It hasn’t worked at the beginning of recorded history (think Hyksos invasion of Egypt) & it doesn’t work now.
I am hoping for a bloody draw with both side unable to muster any strength for half a generation. Both sides are bad. It doesn’t mean we sit this out. We got to keep tabs on it & be ready to jump in if we have to. Right now I would just as soon as the spend their blood & treasure.

Are you serious? “Libertarian” (i.e. Radical Leftist, Anarchist) really?
libertarian [ˌlɪbəˈtɛərɪən]
n
1. (Government, Politics & Diplomacy) a believer in freedom of thought, expression, etc.
2. (Philosophy) Philosophy a believer in the doctrine of free will Compare determinism
adj
of, relating to, or characteristic of a libertarian
[from LIBERTY]
By definition libertarians believe in freedom of thought. I am not a mindless drone. Are you a servant of the Republican ruling elitist or do you actually like RINO’s like Romney?

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 11:23pmwell than secure the border maybe use some of our troops to do that instead of occupying middle eastern countries and killing their people. But this is not our problem, they don’t have weapons that can reach the united states. Syria is not a threat to our country at all.

If it involves Israel… Obama may sit on his Rearend Wright mentored and schooled anti-Semitic @ss and do nothing. That could be worse in the long run. I’d rather he stand on more than just a rhetorical level with Israel if push comes to shove…

Posted on August 15, 2012 at 10:23pmHow could Israel fight a 2 front war? However wins Syria/Lebanon, Shia or Sunni, will be bloodied. Will they be in no shape or will they just be battle tested hardened troops who now feel exhilarated by their recent win & unified?
If it the latter then the illegal Egyptian tanks on the Israeli border are a threat. A few additional battalions were allowed into the Sinai by the Israelis so the Egyptians could deals with terrorists groups. By the Camp David Accords the Egyptians can’t have that many troops in the Sinai. Israel & America relented since the Egyptians seemed unable to contain the terrorists with what they had & they wanted throw an olive branch to the new Egyptian government. Well Muslim Brotherhood President paid them with tanks. I have a suspicion that the MB paid the terrorists to strike the Egyptian border post. It would be the same as when the NAZIs attacked their own radio post in East German & blamed it on the Poles as a pretext for war. (Unless the Germans had an enigma machine at that radio post & the Poles attacked it, which I don’t believe but it just occurred to me.)
