Tuesday marks the 100th birthday of economist Milton Friedman. Today, many believe that we are living in a time in which Friedman’s brand of free market common sense is sorely needed and voices like his are absent from the public dialogue. The ‘Real News’ panel Tuesday discussed Friedman’s greatest hits, and how from entitlement reform to school choice, his positions and policies are still relevant today.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 9:14amSorry, I replied above rather than in this thread. I wanted to respond to something else you said.
“Does it get your Rothbardian goat somehow that I see Friedman as the natural heir to Hayek and not Murray Rothbard and eventually his boy Ron Paul ?? Is THAT IT? ”
It doesn’t “get my goat”, but it think it’s worth pointing out that “what you see” is completely inaccurate. Here is Hayed parting ways with Friedman in a interview in his own words putting Friedman in company with Keynes regarding monetarism and central banking.

Now, I can’t wait for you to tell me how Hayek was lying to himself on Friedman…or maybe that wasn’t really Hayek right?

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 1:04amYou didn‘t say anything about Von Mises because you’re an idiot who knows nothing of economics or history. You may also have invented a new oxymoron (or just moron for you) EXTREME anti-war zealotry. Nice. You’re one of those dudes who loves war…from your living room. Pick up a weapon and look an enemy in the eye and come back and tell me it‘s worth dying is that friggin’ sandbox.

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 6:09amLMAO @ CLEVE. The only thing you may have proven is that these eyes of mine were tired last night. My spelling mistake… “zealotry as opposed to ”zeolotry”, or some iffy sentence structure is about all that was off in my comment.
I didn’t mention Von Mises as I saw no need. It’s even been said that he (Von Mises) might have been an “elitest with facsist tendencies” but we don’t want to get into HIS history with this topic.. or the deep dark history of Rothbard (racist) and Paul’s (racist pandering) absolute bastardization of anything they touched to include Austrian economics. Rothbard (who was a friend of Ayn Rand) even found a way to twist her “so-so” works to suit his wayward agenda. What a friend… what a disciple… what an @ss Rothbard “was” (unless you have him propped up in your closet with feeding tubes and on life support)… thank God he’s past tense.
As Ron Paul would use the Constitution to pimp his twisted Rothbard/Libertarian take on just about everything… Rothbard used Austrian economics to inject his anti-war zealotry into a bent-over Ron Paul and of course now YOU and the other zealots like you.
You wrote… “Pick up a weapon and look an enemy in the eye and come back and tell me it‘s worth dying is that friggin’ sandbox.”
Okay, I’ll go back into my photo albums and relive days of old with the family. They love the old war stories and pics.
YOU however (I’m sure)… wouldn’t know the diff between Cong/ Donkey Kong

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 9:01amDude, I don’t even know where to begin. You’re starting from a factaully incorrect position regarding Friedman, Rand, Paul, Rothbard, and Von Mises (whom you don’t even know who he is…be honest). From your twisted interpretation of reality you begin your tirade by leaping to conclusions and spewing conjecture and rhetoric. There is no fact in your post. Only half baked accusations and lies. It is important to construct economic family trees correctly to better understand the genesis and evolution of theory. By tying together “heirs” incorrectly as you have done it allows you to construct lies as you have done. If not for natural law thinkers like Smith and Locke there is no praxeology. Praxeology is the genesis behind free markes (some say freedom in general). It is an austrian school pillar and perhaps best articulated by Hayek but probably moreso in Man, Economy and the State by Rothbard. All of which influenced Friedman but evidently not enough so to prevent his adherance to fiat currency and the Fed…both of which are not free market ideas.
As for your lust for war, if you are a Vietnam vet as you suggest and think sending other people’s kids to die on sand dunes is great (and hence opposing it as “EXTREME”), well you just can’t fix stupid can you?

Posted on July 31, 2012 at 9:15pmThe heir of Friedrich Hayek was Milton Friedman, not Murray Rothbard (Ron Paul’s mentor), and that the “Austrian economics movement” of Rothbard’s… was/is a front for an extremist form of anti-war zealotry.

Posted on July 31, 2012 at 9:48pmGood Lord, the neocon lie machine didn’t waste any time. Friedman was not a diciple of Hayek. Hayek was a diciple of Von Mises…the father of Austrian economics and yes Rothbard is of that school. Friedman shared many of the same ideas but parted company with the Austrian school on numastic theory, the fed, and monetary policy. Friedman abandoned the free market for the heroin of central monetary policy and fiat currency. He ended up in the Chicago school and not part of Von Mises, Hayek or Rothbard. Pick up a book before you spew drivel and lies you moron.

The Austrians are mostly concerned about preventing enormous bankruptcies like that which occurred in the Soviet Union 21 years ago.
Of course, the U.S. has officially been bankrupt for the past 41 years now, but because of the agreement with Saudi Arabia, we have been able to postpone the collapse.

Posted on July 31, 2012 at 10:58pmWow! “Neo-con, drivel, lies and moron.” I know I threw your hero Rothbard in the dumper CLEVE, but I think you should step back a wee bit and check your facts. I don‘t think I said anything about Mises in my comment CLEVE but I’m sure he thanks you for the mention.
Does it get your Rothbardian goat somehow that I see Friedman as the natural heir to Hayek and not Murray Rothbard and eventually his boy Ron Paul ?? Is THAT IT?
With Rothbard’s mentoring… Ron Paul he has used the… ahem… “freedom movement” to generate name recognition and fame, and then through sleight of hand converted the popularity over his limited government rhetoric to promote an agenda of anti-Americanism, Military isolationism and ant-war zeolotry. EXTEREME ant-war zeolotry. Anyone who has ears and can hear clearly know exactly where most of Paul’s speeches will end up. In the atmosphere screaming, screetching and insulting warrrrr-mongerrrring America and those that have fought for her.
Friedman… the natural heir to Hayek. Rothbard… meh.
