‘Real News From The Blaze’ Discusses What Exactly Is Ron Paul Still Doing Running for President

Ron Paul is indeed still running for president and making some news of late. Over the weekend Rep. Paul won the most number of delegates at state party conventions in Nevada and Maine. While the majority of delegate votes won by Romney in the Nevada caucus earlier in the campaign will still be entitled to him during the first round of voting at the national convention, if there is more than one round of balloting, Paul backers who seized control at the state convention would be untied. Elizabeth Dwoskin of Bloomberg Businessweek describes a possible messy scenario that could ensue in Tampa should Paul supporters continue to maneuver their way to delegate seats from state conventions:

“To win the so-called roll call vote there and become the nominee, you need 1,144 delegates. Romney has 847. Paul has 80. Contest over, right?

Paul is actually gaining ground in some states, where intense contests to divvy up delegates are underway. At one recent gathering in Massachusetts, the majority of delegates elected were Paul supporters. Same story this past weekend in Maine and Nevada. Paul may do just as well in upcoming votes in Minnesota, Iowa and Colorado, according to Josh Putnam, assistant political science professor at Davidson College.

That doesn’t mean Paul’s going to steal the nomination from Romney in Tampa. But his delegates could shake things up right when the party’s supposed to unify behind a single candidate. They could start off by calling for a floor vote, and then jump up in blocs to nominate Paul, one state after another. He isn’t likely to actually get the nomination that way, but multiple states clamoring for him would embarrass the party and make things more difficult for Romney in the months before November.”

As the lastman standing against Romney in what has been a sporadic 2012 Republican primary, Rep. Paul has found himself in a bargaining position, holding ransom the hope of party unity at the convention. The only question is what does the 76-year-old retiring congressman still want out of this campaign?

With a miracle needed to obtain the nomination, the “Real News” panel Monday ran through what motives Rep. Paul could still have for continuing his campaign, and whether his continued fight should be celebrated or shunned by conservatives. S.E. Cupp narrowed a continued Paul campaign down to three possible incentives:

  1. Rep. Paul still thinks he can win the nomination.
  2. By staying in the campaign, Rep. Paul believes it will shift the positions of the presumptive nominee to the right.
  3. This is all an elaborate scheme to set-up his son Sen. Rand Paul for success in the 2016 primary.
Will Cain added an admitted cynical suggestion that he has heard from some who believe that Rep. Paul is addicted to the continued national spotlight and selling books.

Guest panelist David Webb commented his belief that the congressman is aiming for a prominent speaking platform at the convention and to further the political legacy of his family.

“Here’s what Ron Paul has done for twenty-six years, he’s been ineffective. The reality is as an elected legislator, you can have your principles, you can have your votes. But if only one bill out of six-hundred with your name on it have gone anywhere. You’re ineffective,” said Webb.

“He does want relevance, he wants a speaking position, that’s what I believe, at the convention,” Webb went on to add. “But if he gets that speaking position–and the party has to think in terms of the general election– you have to let him speak at some point, but edit.”

Buck Sexton agreed that Rep. Paul is playing for continued relevance in the party and to hopefully steer the presumptive nominee Right on certain issues, but doesn’t buy into any idea that the congressman hopes to “muck up” the convention.

It’s Ron Paul or FEMA camps, you chose. Read the new leaked Army manual FM 3-39.40 INTERNMENT AND RESETTLEMENT OPERATIONS, dated Feb, 2010. Pay close attention to paragraphs 1-19,1-40, and 10-40. You were not supposed to know this, as this manual was restricted, from release to the people it was meant to be applied to. Do you think Romney would put a stop to any of this?

He’s got them well trainned and beleiving his “FACTS”, He built this money train, so why not capitalize from it as long as he can? He knows he is unelectable but he’s got these people believing in the funny smelling Kool-Aid and they bring in the cash!

Nothing is going to matter unless this country gives the republicans a real chance, this country has NEVER given the republicans a super majority in the house and senate, and a republican president, which they have given to the democrats many times, (Carter, that went real well) (Johnson, the raw deal) Even if the republicans want to cut spending, and reduce the debt, they democrats will not vote for it, that is how they make their living, If this country would at least give the republicans a chance, maybe something positive would happen, if not vote them out ! but to date this country will not

I still do not think that the Republican Party gets it. The Party still is the old days of people not involved, so they can think big government. I have enjoyed Ron Paul debating at the many debates, for he was the referee of the Constitution, that put the others back in place on the governance of our country. Now the Republicans think that Romney is a shoe in candidate. I feel that Romney has many questions on what he says and what his actions will be as a President. For I feel that it was the Republicans that helped to push him into the candicacy, feeling that the public would end of rallying around him. I have not been for Obama for some time now, but just because we have Romney, my VOTE is not a promise of victory for him.

But in reality, it’s not about Paul, it’s about a Republican party that still has yet to embrace any aspects of libertarianism and the limited government needed to once again make this the country which embraces freedom and individual liberty.

The Republican party is still the party of the self anointed “country clubers”, but that’s going to continue to change as that generation dies out.

So, how would you like your tyranny delivered? On the fast train–Obama? On the slow train–Romney? Either way it’s hell.

The media, even the Blaze, trumpets the gridlock of Congress and the two parties. Trumpets it, blares it to the world, until both parties rush to vote for any bill that strips We the People of another right or rights. Then, crickets. Why is that? Why do both parties rush to strip us of our rights? What gridlock?

What did voting the “lesser” of evils give us after forty years? Obama. Explain how a “lesser” evil will vanquish the larger evil when both work for the same side? Explain that. You’ve all bought that song and dance for the last forty years. And we got for our voting the “lesser” evil is two parties who hurry to strip us of our rights and Obama. That‘s all we’ve gotten out of this deal with both parties.

And what if, just what if, God is testing us this time? God is asking us to prove to him that we deserve to keep this country, and its Constitution. Will you put the liars in your party over God and Country? Will you remain a sheep to either party, which is, in essence, remaining a sheep to both parties, or will you choose to rise above, to open your eyes and see how you‘ve been screwed and vote the only guy who truly has your best interests and the country’s best interests at heart?

The only way to deny the establishment their power is to deny them your vote when they do not bend to your will. You’re not voting for Obama by writing in Paul, you’re voting for Paul, and telling the Republicns AND Democrats that Paul-like candidates are what you want.

If they want your vote, they need to run candidates you agree with.

In the REALLY important races, like 2012, it is most imperative that you withhold your vote if the party strays. If Obama gets re-elected… SO? If the government collapses… SO? You voted for the man you felt was best, on principle, and that’s the only way our political system works.

The lesser of two evils is still evil.

Such depression. Silly RP fans. RP will never be president, his foreign policy is INSANE! My favorite Ron Paul quote “I would not have gotten involved in WWII, what business was it of ours”. Perhaps he forgot about Pearl Harbor. But even given that, he would stand by while a madman invaded other nations and herded people into gas chambers. Sorry I could never vote for such a man and most moral people would agree with me. I can’t wait until RP kicks the bucket, then maybe his fans will start thinking for themselves. That being said, I am encouraged this year. Sure I was hopefull we would get a more conservative canidate, but last election Romney was the most conservative left in the race by this time, this time he was the most liberal. We are trending in the right dirrection. Also, I don’t think the president is as important as Congress. If we can get a conservative Congress and get Romney as president, I think we can save this country. For while I don’t trust Romney to spearhead conservative principles, I do trust he will not VETO them if put on his desk. If we elect a conservative Congress and put pressure on them to stay true to principles, this country will be turned around. If Obama gets back in -HE WILL BYPASS CONGRESS and just keep pushing his agenda. The priority now needs to be vote Obama out and vote conservatives in to Congress! Come on people let RP go and focus on your local races and on your Senate and House races. We can take this country back!

Glenn Beck thinks we need to defend Israel, that we need to send money to Israel. That we NEED to attack Iran for Israel. Glenn Supports Ron Paul on EVERYTHING EXCEPT foreign policy. I don’t pay attention to Beck since he endorsed Santorum. What Beck does not understand is that the United States was founded on Judeo-Christian ideas, but that does not make us a Christian Nation. It makes us free because of the Liberties God has given all people, and we used to acknowledge that.

When we take the stance that we are Israels defender and benefactor, we put a leash around Israels neck. They are in essence in bondage to us. Ron Paul understands that, he has supported Israels right to be free and Independent. Beck needs to do some research to find out what is REALLY behind all these wars. That they are all black flag events. Lies to get us behind military operations. For example, in 2001 Fox News reported that Osama Bin Laden had dies on Dec 13 2001. BEFORE we went into Afghanistan. So why did we REALLY go into Afghanistan? These wars on the premise of defending ourselves of Israel are lies. Defending the US is about keeping our troops here in the US, where they can DEFEND the US. The territory inside our borders. There is so much at stake right now, and Romney really is no different than Obama. Neither really wants to fix the economy, Obama because he wants to usher in Communism, Romney because he and his buddies profit from it. Both support NDAA 2011, Patriot Act etc…

      He made perfect sense.

If Beck was honest about his concern for Israel, he would have to admit that making Israel dependent on US largesse is a direct threat to Israel’s ability to stand on her own. What happens when a weak Israel has to deal with a hostile US president? Let’s not be Egypt to Israel. Let’s not be the Assyrians. Let’s not be Rome. Any country that attempts to shelter Israel comes between God and his people. Israel becomes a slave, and God wipes out their master.

Follow the constitution in all things government. Increase our prosperity; trade with and travel to Israel. Support them by encouraging them to support themselves.

That is Ron Paul’s foreign policy. And it makes more sense than bombing and sanctioning any perceived threat in the Middle East, which stirs up hate against the US, and Israel.

Glenn Beck has done well to spotlight the radicals in the Middle East, and I do believe he is right on the money, and that Israel is being set up, but so are we, to engage in a wider global conflict that will usher in the New World Order, and for those of you that think that is crazy talk, you better start doing your research because time is running out on preventing it from happening. You first need to understand the ideology behind those wanting the New World Order, it is the Fabien way, Orwelian Society. The worst form of Communism. People in this Country should be concerned more about the Police State than anything. Our calls are listened to and tracked, our emails gone through, our texts gone through, and soon it’s all going into an encryption data base in Utah, the Worlds largest information collection computer. People that love freedom will become the enemy. I am blown away by how this Country yet again got fed a John McCain type candidate to run against someone who’s Liberal views only vary slightly, and I’m a Mormon. But not all Mormon’s are blinded to voting in one of your own. It’s sad that anyone that is a Conservative would slam Ron Paul. He is the only one with 100% Conservative voting record. Beck would vote for Paul if he thought he would prevent another haulocast from happening. We will never be successful in winning any wars as long as we continue to attack presumptively, on the idea that we might get attacked. The real damage is our loss of freedom.

I guess our constitution and our founding fathers were off the reservation too when it came to foreign policy and war. I’m sick a tired of the talk that we need to sacrifice our principles just to get the “electable” candidate in. How is nominating the most consistent and honest politician in modern times more scary than nominating the biggest flip flopper of these times? If Republicans want to expand the party and ultimately unify our diverse nation, they must embrace the ideas of liberty that Dr. Paul champions at the moment. If not they can say goodbye to longtime conservatives like me and expect the rEVOLution to take over in the future without them.

They are not bound just because a state tries to make it that way. Half of so-called Romney delegates are Paul supporters and that means Paul could win on the first round, therefore, no brokered convention, Paul wins.

I’m a new Paulite. I started supporting him in December last year. Before him I had supported Bachmann. Since then I have been inspired like no other President or candidat in my lifetime (I am unfortunately too young to remember much about Reagan). I’ve never been to a caucus, or really even knew what they were before this primary, now I’m a delegate to my state convention this month.

All I have to say is they missed the point. I don‘t know if they’re blind or in denial. The Ron Paul Revolution isn’t just about the nomination, its about revolution. A revolution in the Republican Party and its is happening, silently, all over the country. What they didn’t mention about those caucus victories for Ron Paul is, not only did he win delegates, his supporters took control of the State party. In many states and counties, including my own county in Washington state, not only are we winning delegates, we are electing people to the County and State Chairman, Co-Chair, and Treasurer positions. This is where the real backlash, the real threat, to the established Republican Party is coming from. Some see the writing on the wall and accept that change is coming, some do not: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politicsnorthwest/2018061271_king_co_gop_leader_boots_caucu.html

The air is ripe for a Ron Paul 3rd party run. If he does not get the GOP nomination, the exposure he gets in the process would make an excellent precursor toward 3rd party run.

His campaign is well funded, he has die-hard supporters, and he has the power to sway former Santorum supporters his way. There are also many liberty-minded supporters who would not otherwise vote for the party of Greed, Opportunism and Pandering. Likewise, there are many Obama voters who do so only because of the corrupt and misguided direction the Republican Party has taken since the take over by the Religious Wrong.

There is no way to get an accurate delegate count, since a lot of the “Romney” delegates are Paul supporters who will abstain on the first ballot.

Past time for a Romney / Paul debate

He destroyed Mitt in the debates so many times —he can do it again

Then what are these Mittbots going to say?

Ron Paul always wins the debate polls….they try not to report it

Embarrass the party? Really? They should already be embarrassed for trying to nominate a guy that has zero spending cuts, continues wars, and has no issue taking freedoms.

Rand doesnt need his dads help.

Liberty and Freedom will prevail. God bless Ron Paul. The ONLY candidate who understands the Constitution.

While I agree with Paul on a number of issues, he’s not suitable to be President. He has no executive experience. He was a Dr in the Air Force, not a field commander. He has some good ideas on the Fed and the budget, but some of his other policies are not just out in left field, but not even in the stadium. He seems like a nice enough guy and I know his business partner, but his remaining in the race at this point is detrimental to the cause of removing Obamao from the White House.

LT_SCROUNGE. And Romney would be a better president? Fiscal policy alone is what I will cast my vote on. If we are bankrupt we will have no defense or entitlements. People need to realize this, and Romney will not cut what is needed! Look at Massachusetts, is it fiscally sound?

BAD. You watching “Stripes” again and reliving your faux Military experiences?

John Winger said in the movie… “My philosophy: a hundred-dollar shine on a three-dollar pair of shoes.”

That describes YOU and Ron Paul to a tee…. BADDOGGY putting a “hundred-dollar shine on a three-dollar pair of shoes” (Ron Paul).

Romney is better suited to be president becasue he was a field commander in the US military…

No, wait… He WASN’T a field commander. He wasn’t even IN the military. And his “executive experience” is governing a liberal states like a liberal would, nominating liberal judges and increasing spending and scope of government.

Paul is “better suited” than Romney (or Obama) according to YOUR criteria.

@Texas Chris, Not only didn’t Romney serve, he took 4 or 5 deferments when others were killing and dying so he could spread Mormon theology in Europe.

I‘m really suprised that doesn’t bug you too, Time2… considering yours and our brothers’ sacrifice during those years.
