Egyptians go to the polls today and tomorrow to select the nation’s first democratically elected president. Unfortunately for many observers, the leading candidates are not the secular kind that the West would be far more comfortable in dealing with and, at least according to one young Egyptian as quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Egyptians might prefer as well. While official first-round results aren’t expected until Sunday, and the two-candidate runoff is not untill June 16, what can we expect and hope to see from today’s vote? Eric Trager of the Washington Institute joined “Real News” Wednesday to talk about the election, which the Middle East expert unfortunately believes will result in no immediate stabilization of the politically volatile atmosphere that has dominated Egypt since the fall of Hosni Mubarak.
