The murder of Afghan civilians is horrific and tragic and we as a country are devastated that one of our soldiers is allegedly responsible. But I believe we all want to know what happened to the mindset of this soldier, a man that risked his life for his country, tours in Iraq and now in Afghanistan, a married father of two, who then goes off in the middle of the night to murder men, women and children in their beds? We are talking serious insanity not to mention the premeditated brutality and force it took to break into homes, miles from base on foot, kill so many innocent people and then attempt to burn the bodies. And then he turns himself in? What must have that moment of recognition been like for him? It’s not like he locked himself in some bunker fighting to the death like a crazed lunatic. No, he kills all these people then realizes what he has done? How does someone turn into a monster so quickly without someone else suspecting something ? There is a lot more to this story. My prayers to all the victims of this story , the precious lives of those innocents murdered in Afghanistan and also to this soldier and his family. It’s all so sad.

If this actually occurred it is a tragedy and a shame but what proof do we have? reports from a corrupt news media that writes fiction better than George Lucas? There has been a decided effort to villify our soldiers and in particular the veterans that are returning which I find to be outrageous we look at these reports and accept them as fact with no more proof than some AP post while footage of police officers executing handcuffed civilians goes unreported if this story is true and this actually happened I bet the soldier was, and , or, is a cop. No I am not a former seal but I served in in desert storm and was stationed a stones throw from Coronado. Like Dr. House says “everybody lies” http://www.wellaware1.com

Our troops are subject to multiple deployments into areas (if we include Iraq) where they do not know who the enemy may be and who may be friends. They are deployed into areas where a book (the Quran–Koran, whatever way one chooses to spell it) is more important than human life. Recently they have been subjected to the riots generated by a perceived desecration of the Quran–an incident badly handled in my thinking by the administration and the general in charge and an incident being exploited by Karzai for his own benefit. It was maybe a year or two ago that Afghans killed some Christian aid workers simply for being Christian, but I do not recall any Afghan government apologies. Subject people to those conditions with him knowing that fellow troops were killed by our supposed allies over a book–what the heck does one expect to happen? Somebody, somewhere is going to freak out.

Our leaders tend to think of Islam as a religion but it is significantly more than a religion–it is a way of life–religion, culture, government all rolled into one, something we do not understand as Americans. Let’s get the hell out and not brook any interference or attacks while we do. If we had sent the “Black Jets” to take care of Bin Laden and Al Qaeda’s main characters after 9/11, this would never have happened. We should not be nation building–it compromises our national image and reputation as a nation.

When the Senate approved to remove the ban on sex with animals in the Military, God removed His hand of protection. His Word says this is an abomination. We have offended God Almighty!

This soldier needs to be brought home and treated for his mental condition. I do understand how this can be hidden from others around him from knowing what is in this soldiers mind. I agreed with @SouthernPatriot these young men are so under stress. Can you imagine being in war and then listen to what is happening here at home in America with the discussion about what the government is doing to our Soldiers health and bennefits.

You are right on. I remember when my Brother was in Nam, they sent the dogs they used home, re-sendsitized them to mormal life, but they sure as hell did’nt do that for the men. This soldier served his countrty over 4 trips to HELL
, He has brain damage,Now they want to fry him for it?? They should show their appreiatation for what he has done and gone thru and stand behind him .Evidently he‘s sick’ and it’s all because of the **** the GOVT, put him thru. Put him in a mental Hospital or whatever, get the guy some help. TRIAL is not the answer here. I feel for the families that were killed, but the pay backs from the Afganistan people,is not warranted.

This is truly sad. I know that they do not allow the troupes to drink it’s a big taboo. The folks at the embassy do but the troupes do not. There are very few releases for the guys pent up stress. In most other wars the guys could have a beer and relax somewhat in the rear area. This is not allowed over there and can not be a good thing for the mental health of everyone. The number our tours of duty over there is a problem too. It is quite an depressing atmosphere over there especially in Afghanistan. It is my understanding that something like 80% of the people of Afghanistan have no knowledge of 911 so what do they think we are doing there. It is a strange savage tribal place I wish the world had a solution for the country, islam has not served them well.

Drinking does not release pent up stress. It delays reaction to it maybe. Alcohol is the most damaging drug in the world.

I think one of the problems in our military is that it is all voluntary and these soldiers are being literally worn out and used up. These soldiers are subjected to multiple deployments–I have heard of soldiers being deployed 5-6 times or more. Every man has his breaking point.
Exposure to depleted uranium(possible Gulf War syndrome) used in certain munitions is affecting all of our soldiers. It also has been reported that tactical nukes have been used particularly in Iraq around the Battle of Baghdad and Fallujah. In these areas birth defects and cancer rates have soared after the battles in these areas.
Can anyone explain why we are still in Afghanistan? It certainly isn’t because of OBL–he has been dead since 2001. Is it because of the oil pipeline being built to supply Pakistan and India oil from the Caspian sea. Is it the vast amounts of money being made off the sale of heroin by the CIA? Production of heroin has more than doubled since we invaded. Russia has complained about the increase of pure heroin coming from Afghan poppy fields. Oh yea, we have built systems to allow more water resources to be utilized to aid in the growth of the poppy crop. So much for “THE War ON DRUGS.“ Our Government is one of the largest suppliers of ”illegal” drugs!!! Don’t believe me do your own research.

I always wondered, why, when WE envaded Afganistan, we flew and drove-around the poppie feilds, but never set them a-fire with napalm(or similar) to eliminate this at the beginning! Can yousay…”funding the enemy!” so WE never win and just way-over-use OUR military?

Get out NOW–withdraw without comment–withdraw as soon as possible–sometimes the nature of the conflict is too complicated for complete resolution–don’t let values overshadow reality–there is no WIN for anybody in “The graveyard of Empires”!

IMHBLO, as a veteran, the military doesn’t adequately address the mental stresses that are literally induced in combat situations. Especially in asymmetrical conflicts. Which are the tendency in our ‘new’ world.
Potential enemy combatants KNOW they stand no chance against higher technology forces today.

SEALs ARE highly trained in these kinds of asymmetrical warfare. Specialized attention “IS” given to these dynamics. The regular foot soldier isn’t of the same mental capacity or clarity of these specwar professionals.

Infrastructure isn’t there to support these problems. SEALs are in combat situations literally dozens of times in their careers. After a few deployments for a regular soldier their own minds become their worst enemy. Mental pollution can be caused by many different fronts. But preparedness “IS” the best and possibly the only real remedy.

Anyone who thinks that a person can be put in harms way time and again and thinks it will do no harm mentally hasn’t got a clue! Though the severity of effect depends on the individual, all are effected to one degree or another. War is insanity! Fighting a war to free insane people is taking insanity to the enth degree.
