While Attorney General Eric Holder is already facing intense pressure from House Republicans in regard to the investigation of Operation Fast & Furious, GOP members in the Senate have begun to up scrutiny for the investigation of continued national security leaks from the Obama administration. Thirty-one Republican senators signed a letter sent to Holder Tuesday, demanding that a special prosecutor be assigned to investigate “an avalanche of leaks” on national security matters, rather than the two US attorneys assigned now for the criminal investigation.
The demands come as a new book from David Sanger, Confront and Conceal: Obama’s Secret Wars and Surprising Use of American Power, appears to reveal details linking the leaks to current National Security Advisor Thomas Donilon. His name came under suspicion as a result of David Sanger’s new book about the Obama Administration’s foreign policy. An excerpt from the book posted by ABC’s Jake Tapper shows the tension between Donilon and the Pentagon as details from the raid on Osama bin Laden began to permeate in the media shortly after the event:
“At the Pentagon, top officers fumed at Brennan’s blow-by-blow description of how the SEALs operated; they believed that the former CIA officer had given away operational secrets never shared outside the tribe. (In fact, it appears no real secrets were divulged.) No one was angrier than Mullen himself, who still fumed about that news conference nearly a year later…
“By Wednesday of that week, Gates went to see Donilon, offering up a barbed assessment of how the White House had handled the aftermath of the raid.
“‘I have a new strategic communications approach to recommend,’ Gates said in his trademark droll tones, according to an account later provided by his colleagues.
“What was that, Donilon asked?
“‘Shut the f@*k up,’ the defense secretary said.”
The panel on “Real News” Wednesday discussed the leaks investigation and how this latest scandal may increase public focus and frustration towards the Justice Department and administration as a whole:

Posted on June 28, 2012 at 12:52amDoes anyone else find it simply amazing that once the seriousness of the leaks was pointed out that they seem to have simply stopped? Doesn’t this imply direct control from the White House itself? After all, if one were trying to discredit the President, they certainly would NOT have stopped leaking stories. The fact that the leaks blew up so badly and then stopped once they became their own scandal is pretty strong evidence that the White House was complicit in the leaks and has now shut them off.
This has coverup written all over it.

Posted on June 27, 2012 at 9:32pm? On one hand they want to hold him in contempt and on the other they want him to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate leaks from the very house that is giving the man executive privilege? I just don’t see him cooperating there either…

Posted on June 27, 2012 at 9:50pmEric Holder is just following in the footsteps of his boss in being the worst person at his job in the history of the great nation. The way he has conducted business from day one can only be described as pathetic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqgR_1XRbJU

Posted on June 27, 2012 at 9:14pmWhat is Holder afraid of? He should be falling all over himself to prove he is doing his best to protect this country and its assets. This would be a great way for him to prove he is not covering for Obama and add some credibility back to himself. He should take this opportunity to shift the focus off of him and on to his resolve to find the National Security Leaks regardless of where it leads.
