‘Real News from the Blaze’: Is Mitt Romney Don Draper? Is That a Bad Thing?

Real News from the Blaze: Is Mitt Romney Don Draper? Is Mitt Romney Don Draper? Is that a bad thing?

The part business, part pleasure read of the day Friday for those covering and working in politics was the POLITICO piece “The Draperizing of Mitt Romney.”

For those of you who aren’t addicted to the 4-time best drama Emmy-winning AMC show Mad Men, Don Draper is the successful, suave, philandering, booze-soaked, “woman want him, men want to be him,” clever 1960s adman protagonist of the show. Aside from his infidelity and alcoholism, critics could portray Draper negatively as a man behind the times, self-centered, rich and apathetic to the troubles in the world around him; traits that the Obama campaign may be attempting to brand Mitt Romney with.

Romney’s enemies think they may have a winning position in painting him as a “retro figure who, on policy and in his personal life, is living in the past” but allies like Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan see the presumptive Republican presidential nominee as ”a lot of people I grew up with, a lot of people I know, who have that Midwest earnestness. He’s kind of a throwback to the ’50s.”

On  “Real News” Friday, Amy Holmes suggested whether a President Draper would even be a bad thing. What do you think?

This only goes to show how stupid the BO folks are. Mitt is almost a clone of Roger Sterling, save the fun parts. Trouble is, I think most folks would gladly take Roger Sterling over BO. I know I would. Heck, I’d take Pete Campbell over BO.

Mitt Romney as Don Draper? What does that make Bill Clinton?
Actually, the article is correct, maybe that isn’t such a bad thing. After all, if Mitt is Don Draper that would make Michelle his secretary…

The most effective way to discredit Romney is to simply tell people about Moronism.

Their more peculiar beliefs will necessarily offend Evangelical Christians and cause rational thinkers to laugh uncontrollably.

By “rational thinkers” I presume you mean nuckleheads. Or another synonym for “rational”, in knuckle speech might be “arrogant”.

I think there is no comparison! Don Draper is classic in his stance, knows how to dress well and is not at all boring! OK, so what if he drinks and smokes, at least he is not fake when it comes to living life! Not like I would smoke, but a glass of wine once in a while is good for you anyways! Oh and by the way, Don does not allow others to dictate to him what they think! He has his own mind!

Sounds like Clinton or obama….Romney, like “W” does not drink alcohol and does not ‘philander’…

      What an absurd comparison.
If you’re going to compare 2 people, there has to be more a lot more in common and a lot less of the “not in commons” to not be there.

Compare Romney‘s life story to Obama’s life story. Romney started with very little and ended up a success. Obama started with very little and ended up a failure. America wants and needs a success. This last three years of failure is what America doesn‘t want and sure as heck we don’t need.

I’m no fan of OBAMA (One Big Ass Mistake America), but to say he has not been successful, to say he is a “failure” is just … well, stupid. If we are going to criticize the guy — and there’s PLENTY to criticize — we should at least be intelligent about it.
He’s been a Harvard Law Professor, a State Senator, and is currently President of the United States … the very job Romney HOPES to have. In that sense Romney is chasing Obummer.

I’ve never seen the show (I was never really interesting in that time period) so I don‘t know but judging on the description given by the article they’re not anything alike except they both have money. I don’t even think Mitt is that “suave”. He doesn‘t drink and he’s not a philanderer.

It seems that the Democrats have run out of strategies to smear Romney’s character. Every time they do, the harm intended for Romney, went back to them. It just seems to ricochet. Is Romney anointed?

I guess, Romney is already reaping the reward for being a faithful and consistent TITHER as promised in the Scriptures. This is a unique qualification of Romney which Obama cannot compete.

“I WILL OPEN THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN FOR YOUR SAKE AND GIVE YOU A BLESSING THAT YOU HAVE NO ROOM TO RECEIVE IT…AND I WILL REBUKE THE DEVOURER FOR YOUR SAKE” it is written.

And FATHER IN HEAVEN also declared, “MY WORD WILL NOT COME BACK UNTO ME VOID BUT WILL ACCOMPLISH THAT PURPOSE WHERETO I SENT IT.”

The Scriptures are true, because it is coming to pass in the life of MITT ROMNEY.

The HAND OF GOD is in this election.

Romney is better than what is likely a man who may be illegally sitting on our U.S. Throne. He is better than a known liar, former cocaine user, a man who has no regard for women (though lately he is trying to seem he has.) Romney is wiser, I hope and pray, to surround himself with seditionists, anarchists, and ursurpers of our government. If Romney is wise, he will clean that mess out up there and fix this so it can never happen again. Start with the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Strengthen the fact that there are three distinct branches of Government and never allow anyone to tamper with this again. They about got it. They should Never be this close again. Put the military aright and make sure that is not used as a political football and restore the pride in our military and make sure the moral is as high as it can be in the armed forces. We need our strength and hope back for our country. We do not need to play games with shades of people or people who are pretenders in life and play “marriage” to satisfy some lustful amusement. These people do not need to be in our military who cause confusion about gender and expense that overwhelms our military budget to accomodate these people. It is time to quit accomodating people and get down to business of running this country right.

Totally stupid analogy. Only clueless people who see the world through the Hollywood, info-tainment prism would take seriously any comparison between a real person running for the most powerful office in the country and a fake character played by an actor on a television program.

A sad commentary on how our society and culture continues to decline. Nothing that goes on in Hollywood is relevant to day-to-day life in the rest of America. Many have their heads buried in the sand because they eat, breathe and live in the fake world created in studios.

Yeah, my first thought was “Who’s Don Draper?”. My second thought was “Where do you see a comparison?!” Okay, so they are both rich and successful – but that’s it. My third thought was “Why is this news?” Did someone in the administration come out with this stupid dribble, or did someone at The Blaze have a slow news day?

The article went on to say:

And Democrats unaffiliated with Obama’s campaign are upping the ante, raising questions about just how much a stay-at-home mother like Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, can relate to modern women — an explosive argument that came back to singe the president’s team in recent days.

Many women did not fall in to the garbage that N.O.W. spews. We did not burn our bras. We choose to raise our families instead of shipping them off to state run schools to co-parent. There is a growing movement of families that are making this choice. Home schooling or Mom staying home until the kids are at least in middle school. We are not working to just pay our bills, we don’t create bills. We don’t need all the crap the media pushes at us. We do not leave our children to be raised by other people just so we can have more stuff. Families that make the decission to work to keep mom home are much richer for it. Letting the father be the provider and the mother be the mom is not a bad thing, no matter what the liberal left tells you the roll of women should be.

Romney has been married to the same woman for over 40 years, he is a devoted father and has raised a really wonderful family. How in the world can you compare him to the sleazebag don drapper???? that is really a stretch. Because he is a good looking man is refreshing, I wouldn’t mind looking at him for the next years, and listening to him because I know he does love this country, he is a decent person and he knows how to make a business work. What we have in the wh has never had a job, doesn’t particularly give a damn, and doesn’t have a problem dividing this country. I ask myself over and over why Obama has these policies, and then the only logical answer is because he really want to destroy this wonderful country. So yeah looking forward to romney.

Don Draper drinks booze like a fish drinks water — Mitt, as a Mormon, doesn’t drink, right? The comparison is stupid. Mitt’s more like a technocrat after the fall of the Soviet Union. He’s interested in money and maintaining the machine. That’s about it.
