‘Real News From The Blaze:’ Is Occupy Wall Street Dead?

Remember when “May Day” was supposed to be the jolt of adrenaline for the dreary Occupy Wall Street movement in 2012? In the fall of 2011 OWS began as a day of rage in New York City but soon turned into a global uprising of “the 99 percent,” broadly bringing attention to growing income inequality and the connection between business and political interests, as well as splintering off into smaller and often more radical progressive causes. While the protests were heavily covered by the media, and left their mark in costs to local municipalities following the movements tendency to allign themselves with individuals fond of destroying personal property and clashing with the police, the movement now finds itself largely absent from the national political dialogue with less than 140 days until elections in the United States.

Van Jones has often tried to piggy-back his ideas and work on the Occupy Wall Street movement, so when the progressive “Take Back the American Dream” conference he organized in Washington D.C. this week drew only a few hundred demoralized leftists, many have subsequently asked whether the movement–which was once described by George Will as “the spirit and intellect of the American Left”–has hit a wall.

Buck Sexton, author of “Occupy: American Spring,” is no stranger to the movement. On “Real News” Tuesday, Buck gave his commentary for the state of Occupy Wall Street in eulogy form. Watch Buck’s remarks as well as the panel discuss whether the movement is gone for good:

    I’m guessing the bombers that got caught deflated both the reputation and the popularity of the movement. Most Americans don’t actually like protesters that might blow them up, never mind that overseas occupiers have caused major property damage, injuries, and death. And it is never good when policemen get hurt, proving the protesters guilty of violence, but the protesters get hard jailtime and suffer more injuries than the police, ironically usually at the hands of other protesters. When Occupy Oakland actually supported solidarity with Child Sex Trafficing, and President Obama gave his thumbs up, both Occupy and the White House support had reached an incredible “Jump the Shark” moment. Occupy and Happy Days are gone. The new heroes are the FBI, Chicago and NY PD, for catching those ringleaders who became terrorists.

    OWS is not dead, and the movement will be dangerously desperate in the run up to the election.
    There will be serious violence and lawlessness as these radical, hate mongering progressives live by their credo, ‘The end justifies the means.’ This is their moment and they want, not just the country’s attention, but the world’s attention.
    OWS, as we have known it, may be dead, but something far worse is taking its place.

      I see a race war coming in the near future, maybe even by this summer. All the signs are pointing to it, just open your eyes people, and prepare yourselves for a large enough “emergency” for Obama to declare martial law.

      You are correct. The MSM wanted very much to say this about the Tea Party. Maybe Mr. Soros will pay for professional protesters to restart the OWS group in time to help create a summer of uprising, much like the Arab spring. In the mean time, the Tea Party will just soldier on until November. I wonder if the MSM will note this any more than they have Fast and Furious?

    Occupy is not dead, it is now morphing into something leaner and more fanatical; the hard liners and the insane followers will remain, along with the union thugs backing them, plus those of Obama. This group is now moving into the next stage – domestic terrorism is the likely movement. Watch for more events to occur that can be linked with them.
