‘Real News From The Blaze’: Obama Signs Executive Order for More Control of Communications in Times of Emergency

The president signed an executive order on June 6th that was published in the Federal Registry this week which grants the Department of Homeland Security extended emergency powers to control communications. The Washington Times reports:
An executive order signed June 6 “gives DHS the authority to seize control of telecommunications facilities, including telephone, cellular and wireless networks, in order to prioritize government communications over private ones in an emergency,” said Amie Stephanovich, a lawyer with the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC).
The White House says Executive Order 13618, published Wednesday in the Federal Register, is designed to ensure that the government can communicate during major disasters and other emergencies and contains no new authority.
The White House has said the new order updates a Cold War order signed by Ronald Reagan in 1984, and updated by George W. Bush in 2003 to reflect the new technological reality of communications. But libertarian and privacy advocate critics say the order is a prime example of overreach because the powers for the first time extend to private and commercial networks. James Harper of the Cato Institute tells the Times that the new order “extends Section 706 powers to the Internet,” comparing it to something that “might have made sense in the 1930s.”

Congress could overturn executive orders by legislation until 1983 when the Supreme Court ruled that Congress didn’t have the authority to veto an executive order by legislation. There hasn’t been a clear way since for Congress to veto an executive order.
Really, the only sure way of checking the power of executive orders is to add an amendment to the Constitution detailing exactly what a President can do through executive order. The whole reason why executive orders exist is because language in the Constitution on executive power is vague enough that presidents have been legally justifying their right to issue executive orders.

During world war II, shortwave was the only form of communication to warn of what the Nazi’s were doing. Posted on July 13, 2012 at 9:42pmI’d like to think so, problem is many kids these days sware an oath to uphold the Constitution, but have never been taught anything about it nor have they read it. Perhaps everyone here who has someone in the Military should send them a pocket Constitution and discuss it with them. Lord knows our school systems aren’t going to do it. And of course they watch their parents lay down and surrender their constitutional rights because media largely ignores our civil liberties unless they’re taking a cross down or something.

I would not think it a stretch of the imagination that Progressive Illegal Alien Cartel Army has been already setting up Command Posts, sentinels in the sovereign soil of this Awesome Great Republic and are awaiting orders. I don’t think it will be a made up crisis, I think the Progressive’s Viva La Revolucion order was already given, if I am not mistaken.
