The Latino population has exploded in the United States over the last decade, especially in eight key general election swing states. This may be a problem for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney who has taken a hardline stance against illegal immigration during the Republican primaries, and now faces increased pressure from Latinos as the Obama administration announced last week that they will ease up on deportation policy.
Aware of the electoral sway of the Latino demographic and desiring to take all initiatives possible to avoid four more years of President Obama, Republican lawmakers are requesting that the former Massachusetts governor crystalize his pitch to Latinos and articulate his position on illegal immigration before it is too late. The Hill reports that Romney will move on these requests during his scheduled address the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) in Orlando, FL, Thursday. President Obama will address the group on Friday.
Since tying up the nomination, Romney has not jumped in head first to public debate regarding immigration issues, which are not always seen the same way by different factions of the Republican Party.
On “Real News” Wednesday the panel brainstormed what policy Romney could advocate that addresses the immigration and border security issue, while appealing to different factions of the Republican Party and not turning off Latinos. Watch a clip from the show Wednesday:

Posted on June 22, 2012 at 12:17amAmy Holmes was the only one on this panel that I agreed with. The GOP also needs to do focus groups on Latinos. There is a very big disconnect between the GOP and Mexican Latinos. The Cubans do not reflect many attitudes on Mexican immigration but are frequently used as their approach to the Latino community. Romney should avoid talking about illegal immigration in public that can be used as a sound bite.

Posted on June 21, 2012 at 11:01amChanging your view on illegals is not going to change the illegals from voting for Obama. First off they should not be voting, but Im sure they will. Changing your views on illegals is only going to lose you votes. Not Gain. He needs to stick to no Illegals. They are ILLEGAL. Has that word lost its real meaning, because apparently nobody realizes that it means BREAKING THE LAW!!!!

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 11:55pmRomney only won the nomination because of money. He out spent the other candidate 10 to 1. Outside of Huntsman every other candidate was better than this clown. I couldnt stand Gingrich and Santorum but good God this man is horrible.
1. Spending – same as Obama.
2. Wars – same as Obama.
3. Freedoms – same as Obama.
4. Fed – same as Obama.
5. Romneycare – same as Obama.
6. Immigration – same as Obama.
7. UN – same as Obama.
8. Bailouts – same as Obama.
9. Funded by – same as Obama.
Either of these men get elected Americans lose. If Obama crushes Romney in November like I think he will, you Romney/ABO crowd have no one to blame but yourself. I dont want to hear complaints because you people were warned.

The Latinos are taking over the poor class jobs and the Chinese are taking over the middle class jobs that Clinton, Bushes, Obama, Romney, Republicans sent overseas.

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 10:49pmThere should be no issue with immigration. We have sound immigration policy (at least we did before Obama’s executive order). To go along for political gain would be a dereliction of his duty as the Republican nominee. I would talk about the path to citizenship. I would highlight those that came before and followed immigration rules. The approx. 800,000 they say are affected by Obama’s Executive Order just happened to be fortunate that they were brought to this country. I wouldn’t have a problem giving those who can prove they were brought here as minors by their parents a work or education visa; but no welfare benefits of any kind, and they would not have a vote. To receive benefits of citizenship, they first need to be citizens.

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 9:31pmIf Romney would focus on getting the lebertarians, the constitutionalist and the “Paulies” to vote for him, he’d have this election in the bag. Instead he’s selling out conservatives for a group that is NEVER going to vote for him.

Why can’t Romney just flip-flop like he usually does?
All he has to do is “say the right thing” in front of the audience that he is pandering to at that given moment………then turn right around and “say the right thing” in front of the audience with opposing views later on.
It has gotten him this far…..why stop now?

Report Post »President Obama’s comments made in March of 2011 at a Univision townhall:
With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case, because there are laws on the books that Congress has passed — and I know that everybody here at Bell is studying hard so you know that we’ve got three branches of government. Congress passes the law. The executive branch’s job is to enforce and implement those laws. And then the judiciary has to interpret the laws.
There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as President.

Posted on June 20, 2012 at 8:45pmunfortunately, it doesn’t matter who you get in there, we WILL get amnesty and the borders WILL NOT be made secure. The political class has made it all too clear that no matter how much “we the people” scream and hollar and vote them out, their replacements will just repeat the same policies. See Marco Rubio as an example.

It may also be true that there is a tsunami in politics that has the label ‘tea’ that have gone underground since 2010 and will be even larger in 2012. I have a near relative that 2yrs ago was a staunch ‘o’ supporter who now prefers the label of ‘libertarian’. I speak openly to those that associate with me. My favorite when it comes to the federal budget is to take 2.6 trillion and 3.8 trillion per year and convert these numbers to a household monthly budget – twenty – six hundred in and thirty – eight hundred in spending.
Report Post »On immigration, my presentation to those in favor of open borders, my response is : ” So I’ll stop by your house climb in a window, help myself to your kitchen, and if there is any money laying on a counter it goes in my pocket. Is that OK?”
both of these get the apolitical folks I know to THINK! That is all I ask them to do.

Report Post »The slothen politicians will not realize what they have unleashed until such time as our country turns into a third world nation. Then they will gnash they teeth and wonder what went wrong. And, then, after they figure out that pandering to the illeagle immigration for a short term vote kept them there, they will be shocked at how this could have occured. If they are that stupid they deserve it. However, they are really even more stupid. They think the new world order thing is a good idea.
