‘Real News From The Blaze’ Talks Tax Reform and the Tea Party on Tax Day

Taxes are on everyone’s mind today, so “Real News From The Blaze” opened on Tuesday talking about taxes, and the means to bring real tax reform to Washington. The president’s venture into tax reform through a war on the wealthy failed in a symbolic vote in the Senate Monday, where Democrats could not find 60 votes to advance the “Buffett Rule” legislation.

With the White House proposal out, Matt Kibbe from Freedom Works discussed with the “Real News” panel what the “Tea Party tax code” looks like.

“Well I think there are some basic principles that the Tea Party does support, that it represents on the tax code, transparency is one of them,” said Kibbe. “What about the principle of American justice that you should treat everybody exactly like everybody else.”

When the Tea Party first launched, taxes were arguably the movement’s most pressing concern. Tax Day became its national day of protest, but after three years and Tea Party affiliated candidates elected to the Senate and House, what has movement accomplished by way of tax reform?

When asked by The Blaze’s Amy Holmes what the Tea Party tax agenda would look like, Kibbe responded; “simple, low, fair and honest.”

“Its got to be one rate, and it should either be a low income tax rate, or if you’re going to scrap the income tax all together, you should do a sales tax. You shouldn’t do both.”

“Don’t punish opportunity” Kibbe went on to say. “It’s not about being rich, it’s about the opportunity to get rich in America. It’s those high marginal rates that block people from becoming the next billionaire, the next Bill Gates.”

Kibbe went on to say that many of the new, Tea Party supported members of Congress have already written legislation challenging the current tax code and the old guard timid to changing the status quo.

Grove City College is set to broadcast an exciting live debate tomorrow night “Can We Get Along?: Libertarians & Compassionate Conservatives in 2012,” featuring Matt Kibbe; CEO of FreedomWorks and Marvin Olasky; editor in chief of WORLD Magazine.

I am TEA. I just paid my taxes. teed off. I agree. Lets vote just after 4/15. A little info. There is roughly 113 million tax payers. if we all paid 15k in taxes apiece we might be able to break even with the spending. I think we need to ease up a bit on the spending.
    just a thought

I just paid off my house, and noted that the taxes paid was more then what I paid for the house 33 years ago. I also noted that the property taxes were more than the payments on the house…

Flat tax NOW. Everybody pays something, even if the lower end pays only 5%, they need to participate.

Agree .. everyone should have some skin in the game .. right now 47% that don’t pay .. think that the 52% that pay don’t pay enough .. and that everything is “free” …. let them pay some and they might begin to care about the waste in Washington.

A flat tax means we all pay the same percent.

I propose that Presidential Election day be moved to May 7th, taking office about 60 days later, or at the mid point of the year. Why? Because people will still be PO’d from paying their taxes in mid April, the checks to the IRS will have cleared, their bank statements will have been prepared (yeah I know online access 24/7). The point is in November everyone is got the holidays and Christmas shopping on their minds. Let’s tie the election day to tax day.
