‘Real News From The Blaze:’ Time to Get Rid of the IRS?

The Treasury Department released a report this week that suggests supervisors in the Internal Revenue Service turned a blind eye to fraud in a program designed to collect taxes from immigrants, legal and illegal, resulting in the agency handing out potentially unlawful refund payments. The Wall Street Journal reports:
The management failures—including a focus on processing applications quickly instead of accurately—allowed the creation of fictitious identities, meaning that some people who didn’t qualify ended up with a taxpayer identification number, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration found. The result could be fraudulent tax returns, the report said. It didn’t quantify the number of such returns, if any, or the extent to which people may have received tax refunds they didn’t deserve.
The report examined one corner of the tax system, a segment that consisted of 2.9 million returns last year and resulted in $6.8 billion in refunds sent to people with taxpayer identification numbers. It is likely to add to existing concerns about identity fraud in the tax system, even though the IRS has indicated it plans to take many of the proposed corrective measures.
The IRS has recently announced a series of improvements that will take effect immediately on an interim basis in response to the Treasury findings. This is the same agency that is tasked with being the enforcement arm of Obamacare, enforcement that has been previously discussed on “Real News From The Blaze,” as incapable of applying fines, levies or criminal prosecution.
In light of the most recent report regarding supervisors’ lack of eagerness to detect fraud, along with longstanding criticisms of the agency, is it time that conservatives take a harder and more public line against the IRS? “Real News” debated this question Friday:

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 12:00pmThe solution is simple we used to be a comsumer taxed country but now we are a producer taxed country. Get rid of income tax, get rid of the wastefull IRS and billions in bogus tax returns and just charge a federal sales tax…. no gaping tax holes, no IRS to pay for and you are only taxed on what you spend, which for most of america is almost every penny anyway.

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 6:05pmA 5% Federal Sales Tax on all items would bring in an incredible aount of money. Plus eliminating the cost of running the IRS, reducing the added accunting cost of business and people would not have to hire accountants, H & R Block, etc. would create “new” money that would help stimulate the economy.
Eliminating the IRS would create a whole new class of totally unemployable people but it would be worth paying their unemployment benefits to be rid of them, and a lot cheaper!

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 11:48amThey have been talking about doing away with the IRS for years. It well never happen. The reason I don’t think they ever do away with the IRS is that the main reason is control of the people and it is the best way of control. And they won’t give that up. The IRS is like a drug that our government is addicted to and I think there is no rehab program that will break the addiction .

Posted on August 11, 2012 at 10:43amFAIRTAX is fair. If you cannot afford it you cannot buy it. THAT will give incentive for the person to work hard/think hard and create. Like in the 1800s. Which made America GREAT.
IT IS NOT FAIR to tax a 200K earner MORE than a 20K earner. That 200k earner put in MORE TIME and time is valuable(once it it gone you don’t get it back. Time is priceless). 20K earners are that way because they have no incentive to get to 20K.
Report Post »The politicians of neither party is going to change the taxation system that is ANTI-AMERICAN, ANTI-SOCIAL, because with all the obscurity built into the IRS/FED-RES………..the politicians can Rape the AMerican taxpayer and the system. Posted on August 10, 2012 at 10:28pmWhen you say you are in favor of a “flat tax,” or even Cain’s 9-9-9 plan, you are saying you want to KEEP the IRS. Every one of the so-called reforms being proposed is a tax on income. Who enforces income taxes? The IRS.
There is only one plan — currently with 70 co-sponsors in the House — that eliminates all forms of taxation on income and eliminates the IRS. That plan is the FairTax (H.R. 25/ S.13). Look into it. Under the FairTax, you will see a 29% or greater increase in your take home pay. Prices of goods and services will come down when taxes are no longer built into production costs. You will pay federal taxes only at the cash register, and only on NEW goods and all services. Used goods and education are not taxed. A “prebate” feature protects the poor, and the FairTax extends the lives of SS and Medicare.
The FairTax — Understand it. You’ll demand it.

Posted on August 10, 2012 at 10:19pmTime to Get Rid of the IRS? Waaaaaayyyy past time. the “progressive income tax” is one of the points cited in the “Communist Manifesto” by Marx and Engels. The lefties got the country to go along with it a hundred years ago, and look at the horrible results — 60,000 pages of gobbledygook that no one fully understands, that lets the federal government grow like Topsy, pick winners and losers, and overall take away some of our liberty.

Term limits on everyone in political fields. And how bout paying our so called representatives a starting salary of $30-40k a year and if they do well. Have a poll if we should give them a raise.. :-) And how bout having bills introduced under 25 pages. Anything over 25 pages you get smacked and told to revise your thoughts.. ..

Posted on August 10, 2012 at 9:29pmI think a giant leap toward fixing our problems would be to pass an amendment requiring a 10 year sunset on all laws passed by congress. Make it retroactive and then every 10 years they would have to look at the laws and see if they are still valid or needed. If so re-pass them. That would get rid of all the junk in our system, keep congress from passing so many laws(because they would be busy looking at retiring laws) and it would only cause us to have to live under bad laws for 10 yaers max.

Posted on August 10, 2012 at 9:43pmIf we can get the senate and retain the house then Obama is neutered anyway. The only problem is he can nominate SCJ’s and I think Scalia would retire if he thought a decent judge could be nominated. We need to get Romney in there and hold his feet to the fire. The ultimate embarrassment would be to have someone else nominated after a first term and conservatives can hold that over his head. The big problem with Obama is we know nothing about the fool and to go from crap to gold so quickly reaks of a major conspiracy at the national level. These blogs and all our posts are probably all for naught. I think the book has already been written but am not sure about the ending.

Posted on August 10, 2012 at 8:43pmIRS? While you are thinking about getting rid of this institution, could you please get rid of all of these robot drones; they remind me of the END of DAYs?
Why are we wasting money on all of these drones; we have 100 million people on welfare? Homeless people? Jobless people? Who approved all of the spending for the drones, training, and such? Let me know, I want to protest at their homes. Their family needs to suffer too.
What is the need for all of these drones? I think several psychologists need to study these folks who developed these drones; they seem mentally ill to me. I think we should lock them up before they arm these robots with bullets and kill us all! They seemed to be like the same nuts that shoot religious leaders and citizens trying to enjoy a movie.
Why isn’t Obama trying to take their 2nd Amendent rights away from these mad scientists? Oh! I forgot, he is their fearless leader. He gets to add to his execution list everyday. I hope Americans wake up and see this man for what he is.

Posted on August 10, 2012 at 10:11pmWhy does the government have drones? To intimidate law abiding citizen…oops, I forgot to watch for the terrorists that lurk everywhere. Don’t you know the government is there to protect you.
We should all feel comfort now because anyone that talks about getting rid of the IRS or government regulations is now a suspected “militia” member and a potential domestic terrorist. I am sure the government is collecting all of the posts on this article and keeping them safe for future use. I am so glad my government is out to protect me.

Posted on August 10, 2012 at 8:25pmThe IRS invented the ITIN to coax illegals to come in and reveal the SSN’s that they were using to secure work. I worked at the IRS for a time and worked on the customer service counter where the ITIN’s were given out. Illegal greasers were using other people‘s SSN’s in order to work and then the people whose SSN’s were being used would get notices of additional tax assessed on the money the greasers were earning. I remember one young girl. She gave up five SSN’s that she was using in exchange for an ITIN. It was a sham fifteen years ago and it’s still a sham now.
Other than sales tax, illegals don’t pay taxes. They never have and they never will. It’s time for the “FairTax”.
