‘Real News’ Panel Debates Troop Withdrawal From Afghanistan

On Thursday night’s episode of “Real News From The Blaze,” the panel delivered an lively debate on the current situation in Afghanistan — particularly on the pending withdrawal of U.S. combat troops per the Obama administration’s recent announcement.

Blaze host S.E. Cupp focused on the psychological impact of a troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, noting that U.S. enemies could be emboldened by the announcement.

While Blaze national security expert Buck Sexton believes that the U.S. has accomplished what it set out to do in Afghanistan and that a gradual withdrawal is appropriate, he noted the convenient timing of the administration’s move.

“It looks like the Obama administration is making these decisions in lockstep with political timing,” Sexton observed.

Cupp, on the other hand, thinks that any announcement, regardless of its timing only plays into the hands of the nation’s foes.

Blaze political strategist Will Cain asked what the U.S. is still doing in Afghanistan. Noting the country’s repugnant record of human rights abuses, Cain posited that it would be near if not totally impossible to teach them “Jeffersonian ideals” and a Western concept of democracy in a way that the country could truly embrace and practice.

Cain observed that with less than 100 al Qaeda operatives in the country to this point, drone operations could be used in place of spending money and risking lives by keeping forces on the ground.

When the topic turned to the release of Guantanamo Bay detainees, Sexton agreed that while the move was wrong, it ultimately will not turn the course of the war. He also noted that many fail to recognize that as long as Afghan militants have Pakistan as sanctuary, it is literally impossible to eliminate the problem.

“It’s like trying to get rid of roaches in one apartment when they have another apartment next door to move into!”

The panel unanimously agreed, it might not be a good idea to invade Pakistan!

Conservative talk radio host and guest Andrew Wilkow joined in the lively, and at times heated, discussion:

I haven’t been able to watch an entire show due to boredom. Topics move too slow. Buck Sexton dominates with his opinions. Same format as Fox News “The Five” which I hardly ever watch.I had hoped it would be a new and original production.

Glenn…I Love U..& I’m “IN LOVE” with S.E. Cupp, but I have to give my HONEST opinion of this show…
#1: If it wasn’t for S.E Cupp, this would have about as much entertainment value or Attention keeping power as me on Ambien watching MSNBC. (Let me be a guest..I’ll spice this thing up, like Greg Gutfeld)
#2: the men on the panel have faces meant for RADIO.. hehehe (seriously though)
#3: It’s SOOOOOO boring, I’m not even paying attention to the topics..I’m just focusing in on…who are these guys & why don’t I give a darn what these guys have to say.

P.S. THANK GOD THAT THERE AREN’T ADS (CHEAP, SPYWARE ADS/ PC DESTROYING ADS) POPPING UP ON MY TV (YET), LIKE THERE IS ON EVERY SINGLE GLENN BECK WEBSITE NOW…I MEAN GOOD GOD MAN…HAVE SOME PRIDE IN UR SITES. I WOULD NEVER ALLOW ADVERTIZERS TO SPAM MY WEBSITES WITH THIS CRAP. I’VE HAD TO CLEAN MY PC OF TROJANS & BOTS AT LEAST 50 TIMES SINCE THEBLAZE & GBTV HAVE BEEN RUNNING IN FULL FORCE.
U MAY BE TELLING THE MOST TRUTHFUL NEWS & FACTS OF ANYONE IN THE WORLD, BUT,I DON’T GET BOMBARDER BY THESE “USED CAR” TYPE SPAYWARE ADS ON THE FREAKIN HUFFPOST FOR PETE’S SAKE…
P.S.S. With that being said..I REALLY wish you still had your FOXNEWS gig…GBTV is GREAT, but, it’s EXACTALLY like Howard Stern & I called it from the second I heard U were off FOXNEWS & tears whelt up in my eyes) Howard Stern thought he was such a big shot that he went on Sirius & BYE BYE MILLIONS & MILLIONS of listeners. UR message is no

S C Cupp just spouts the most predictable party line and talks like she is looking into a mirror admiring herself.
If you are interested in discussions about current events Will Cain and Buck Sexton add real depth to the show.
Sounds like you are after entertainment, not news.
You also sound very creepy with your Cupp lust…gross.

Sexton and Cain are spot on in their analysis, great stuff. I wish Amy H would not interrupt and just allow the debate to unfold naturally.

We were not attacked by Afghanistan. Afghanistan is not a nation-state. Not even a failed nation-state. It’s a never-was state. What if bin-ladin and his goat herder buddies rented a yacht and tied it up to a pier in Monaco to plan an attack. Would that entitle us to interrupt their Grand Prix with cruise missiles? Don’t be stupid. There is no military large enough to prevent all attacks. No amount of nation building that could prevent all attacks. Neocons like Cupp will find plenty of other countries to invade and occupy. Don’t worry about the congressional/military/industrial complex. They’ll be fine, too

Will Cain has it right….“Why are we still in this god forsaken country”. If someone could answer that question plainly, we would not have this problem. To say “pakistan” or “iran” is very very vague and seems counterfactual to me. It is like saying your backyard fence is there to keep elephants out. We need a clear, articulate reason why we have so many troops in and dying in a country half-way around the world (nevermind the $ cost).

Here are two guys perfectly explaining their problem with this afganistan mess and there is C Cupp emotionally charged, throwing her hands in the air, and jaw dropped. It is a perfect example of why the majority of the american people have a problem with our policy over there, yet our republican party does not understand it.

It does appear that Cupp hides behind the military and the flag. That really bothers me. I wish she spent more time thinking about the opinions of the military and less time for ‘hair and makeup’. Ron Paul wants to bring the troops home from afganistan as well as germany/japan/korea – Ron Paul gets more financial support from the military than all the other candidates combined.

I wish there were more educated voices in the media like the two guys who posted below

This “IS” the ‘war’ BHO said was the worthwhile war. The war ‘with merit’, as he put it. He condemned the Iraq war as “Bushs war”. But loved the Afghanistan conflict. And now, just like that, with in a year of each other:“POOF” mission accomplished. Just like in Iraq? right? yeah, right.

I agree with most of your comments. I spent 4 years, 5 months in AFG (all major bases and dozens of FOB’s, PRT’s, KOP’s, FSB, et al.). I can tell you that there is a reason to be there (AFG) and it is not always to prosecute the terrorists. The location is strategic for our national interests.

Things have happened in that country (to the benefit of all civilized people) that the general population will never know about.

We really need to do things smarter… not harder.
