Posted on February 26, 2012 at 1:40pmThe U.S. fossil-fuel dilemma is that the United States has vast, albeit finite, fossil-fuel resources, but we don’t exploit them sufficiently because of environmental and political concerns. Many environmentalists and political activists believe their use causes man-made global warming, and by exploiting finite domestic energy resources we only discourage the development of infinite alternative energy sources—solar, wind, geothermal, etc. Thus we have allowed ourselves to become dependent on expensive foreign oil from volatile regions of the world. As gas prices again soar, there is a way out of this dilemma, if only we have the common sense to see it. http://ewross.com/breaking_the_code_of_the_fossil_fuel_dilemma.htm

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 1:30pmtaking a step back and looking at this in another, what if way.. with the oil prices jumping i think the WH is seeing an opportunity here for a chance to take a big jump in the polls by letting the prices continue to rise and blaming it on the republicans. at some point in a month or three he will announce that he will start granting oil leases out and maybe even open up alaska which will bring the prices down. as someone at the white house once said “don’t let a good crissis go to waste”!. he will do and say anything to get relected because we have already see that in him. in my opinion just the fact of announcing that you will start granting leases will drop the prices down fast and make him look like a hero instead of a zero. jmho

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 10:15amOk, does anybody do research anymore? Since Obama took office oil production has gone up from 5.1 to 5.5 million barrels a day in the United States. Also permits have been issued for 111 new shallow water wells in the gulf and another 362 deep water wells. Get it through your heads folks, U.S. Oil production doesn’t effect gas prices. Quit listening to the talking heads and nodding, and do your own research.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 9:56amJust the FEAR of US oil being pumped out of the ground would turn OPEC upside down. The price would immediately begin dropping.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 9:25amSorry S.E. – If the potus signed off on keystone the price would have gone down and we would have some jobs. If the admin allowed drilling on proven lease holds and eased restrictive regulations there would be more oil on the market and the price would go down.
Report Post »supply & demand: worldwide demand is up , so lets add some product to the market .

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 9:44amAll three of you ladies are FINE. You folks touched on it . Let’s give an analogy.
Handcuff all of the panelists together in a mixed spaghetti fashion, blindfold three of you, gag four more, bind the hands of hands two more . Now try and do this discussion on petroleum supplies.
Over the decades this is what has been done to the petroleum industry. The special interest people DO NOT want oil used; they think green will work for all (beyond all rationality). Then you have the “Not in MY backyard!” group. And of course you have all levels of gov’t doing their extortion.
now in the ‘Oil Producers’ gasoline is 25 cents. yet retail here is $3.50 – higher elsewhere.
Report Post »Reason NO regulation….. there needs to be a balance.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 10:09amDoesn’t anybody read the Department of the Interior releases? Oil production is up from 5.1 million barrels a day in 2007 to 5.5 millions barrels a day in 2010. As for not allowing drilling, how about the fact that President Obama has approved 111 new drilling permits in shallow water areas and another 362 deep water drilling permits. When will you people get it through your heads that drilling and oil production (which have increased dramatically since Obama took office) will have no effect on oil prices?
Report Post »Instead you listen to your talking heads and nod approvingly. Do some research people!

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 8:50amUnfortunately these kids are completely wrong. Obama can do something very very significant to affect the price at the pump. When we start approving drilling leases and loosen regulations the world market reacts immediately to reduce the risk that we may actually start tapping into our own natural resources. This is a kabuki dance and is in perpetual motion.

Posted on February 25, 2012 at 8:39amI saw this live. Disappointed to hear S.E. “unlink” Obama’s anti-energy policies from gas prices. They are tightly coupled and it‘s not Bush’s fault: it‘s Obama’s. His babble about algae is laughable: Whatever we burn produces CO2 emissions in proportion to the heat generated and we have no idea whether there will be any less undesirables (like Mercury) from Algae than from Oil. Wish she‘d instead pointed out it is Obama’s absence from the job and complete ignorance of every relevant topic that have crippled our economy and national security.

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 10:37pmMost people are completely ignorant about the price of gas:
1. From 1944 until 1971, the US dollar was backed by gold at a ratio of 1 oz. of gold to $35 US dollars
Report Post »2. The Welfare-Warfare state (that Ron Paul always talks about) began with the costs of the Vietnam War, but then in 1965 the costs from Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society became another enormous cost burden
3. With the costs of Vietnam and the Great Society piling up, then America defaulted on August 15, 1971 and it stopped redeeming US dollars in exchange for gold to foreigners holding US dollars overseas.
4. The default started a run on the dollar.
5. Nixon needed a commodity (that is in high demand by the rest of the world) to fix the value of a dollar to in order to prevent runaway inflation in the US.
6. Nixon sent Henry Kissinger to make a deal with the Saudi king in 1974 and in exchange for eternal military protection for the Saudis, then the Saudis would link the US dollar to the price of a barrel of crude oil. The Saudis would also convince the rest of the OPEC members to only accept US dollars as payment for crude oil (assuring a sustained demand for the US dollar).
7. It has been that way ever since.
8. Over the past 40 years then this arrangement has given the US Congress a virtual license to print money to continue perpetuating the Welfare-Warfare state.
9. Oil exporters eventually get tired of accepting counterfeit dollars in exchange for crude oil, so they raise the price according

Posted on February 24, 2012 at 10:30pmThis is a perfect example of what happens when your main goal in life is finding Utopia. Unfortunately, we’re paying for another progressive mistake, of which there seems to be no end.
But, higher prices is what it will take for common sense to again take root and drilling is significantly increased on OUR soil. Unfortunate, but it is what it is.
It’s funny how progressives continue to shoot themselves in the foot and never learn.
