‘Real News’ War Room: Audit the Fed

The House of Representatives is preparing to vote Tuesday on a Rep. Ron Paul sponsored bill that would direct the Government Accountability Office to conduct an annual Fed review with the goal of providing greater transparency in to what the Fed actually executes and facilitates to protect monetary policy. With already 274 co-sponsors in the GOP-controlled House, passage of the “audit the Fed” bill is near guaranteed. Less can be said for the bill’s chances in the Democrat-controlled Senate, where Rep. Paul’s son Rand; the junior Republican Kentucky Senator, has introduced a companion bill that will likely not be touched with little time left before elections in November and more Fed support in the Senate.

Auditing the Fed has been a long-time cause for Rep. Paul, who recently told NewsMax that Americans are “waking up” to the idea as more realize the central bank has made the nation’s middle class “much poorer.”

“Real Wealth isn’t going up,” Rep. Paul said to NewsMax. “Good jobs are going away.”

Critics of the Paul plan, including Fed Chair Ben Bernanke, call the bill a “nightmare scenario” that would inject politics into what is largely seen as an independent organization.

The bill and Fed were analyzed on “Real News” Monday, questioning whether the central bank is achieving its institutional goals and what Rep. Paul’s legislation can really accomplish:

    What would an audit show that would be worse than what we already know? The Fed is slowly ruining this country by dropping money from helicopters.

    once this gets through and more is exposed about the fed, public outrage should rise ten fold. this may also be a part of the so called perfect storm.

    Isn’t it ironic, that the only independent organization the Liberals truly care about is the Federal Reserve…?

    Auditing the fed would be like the Gorillas setting off snares designed to trap them. The concept is the same all around. It’s the best bet in forcing the Progressives into a ditch.

    Bernanke cites interference with the independence of the Fed as his nightmare scenario. But how many people or organizations have ever had unchallenged power and remained uncorrupt? Why should we trust the Fed when we cannot trust any other powerful entity without checks and balances?

    I see the Fed creating money from its own will and playing god with the money I have worked hard for. I am supposed to trust these cretins without question? Audit the Fed and let them know who their real bosses are, the citizens of the USA!

      Another straw man from the govt.

      No one is asking for governmental control of the fed.
      An audit does not stop the independence of the fed, it only shines a light on their activity.

      If what they are doing is lawful and honest, then an audit will support them, proving they are acting ethically.

      They want the power of govt and the freedom of the free market – that is a formula for disaster.

      @D.SUPPORTS ISRAEL Ya got good points. Why can’t we have transparency of our gov? The answer is that they don’t want you to know what they are doing with YOUR money. Al Capone and Obama aren’t any different except for the year number. Both are ruthless. Both will do anything to sustain their power. Both will let their minions do the dirty work for them while they are protected. Both liked the high life. Both would resort to any means to attain their goal.

    The wealth of this country is being sucked dry. Other countries are benefitting from the wealth of this nation more than American in many instances. Some Mexicans are getting wealthy in this country from bringing in drugs and financing legitimate businesses and hiring their own. America is being used like a whore because this sitting man in our White House wants to destroy this country. What is not being exchanged in other countries is being stolen and locked down so Americans in industry and farming cannot benefit. This man is ripe for impeachment and Congress needs to act on this or history will not be kind to them. These men who are representing the American people are sitting on their collective azzes and allowing this man and his cohorts to rape this country and destroy her wealth.

      You wont. Remember Glenn Beck was constantly called “crazy”, a “loon”, and “dangerous”. Where do you think Glenn Beck got his FED info. This is a thing Ron Paul has been trying to get public for decades.

      Its funny the big Beck supporters call Ron Paul those same names Beck was called.

      Actually Glenn Beck cares quite a bit. I care also. To ignore the FED like Romney said is a huge mistake. It is the main reason for for price increases.
