A new Washington Post/ABC News poll released Wednesday shows the partisan divide in this country sinking to historic lows, as 84 percent of Republicans polled view President Obama unfavorably and 80 percent of Democrats feeling the same about Mitt Romney. The partisanship is higher than the 78 percent of Republicans who viewed Bill Clinton negatively in 1996, and 76 percent of Democrats said the same about George W. Bush in 2004.
The heated rhetoric and legislative gridlock that has been constant in Washington D.C. over the last few years has been well covered, but what is the source of this partisanship? And is it even something to be frowned upon? It’s often bemoaned that we need public officials who vote on principle not party, yet we ridicule legislators in Washington hesitant to giving in to compromise.
Furthermore, what blame does the media take for furthering the political divide as less coverage is given to policy than political vitriol, which is often then copied by media commentators.
On Small Wars Journal last month a retired colonel co-authored a piece entitled “Full Spectrum Operations in the Homeland: A vision of the Future” and that vision includes a right wing militia “motivated by the goals of the tea party movement” seizing control of a small South Carolina city and setting up check-points to look for illegal aliens. A Washington Times editorial Tuesday called the article a cartoonish liberal nightmare. But are there not so cartoonish liberal nightmares published every day – like Margaret Carlson’s “The Tea Party’s Plan to Cripple Congress” posted on Bloomberg News late Tuesday which included such lines as: “Only the purest, most virginal conservatives are being chosen as the party’s standard bearers in November.”
The “Real News” panel Wednesday discussed the caricatures that have been hurled in Washington of the late, and the effect such behavior has had on practical governing:

Posted on August 8, 2012 at 10:47pmThe MSM have really stoked the fires of partisanship with their constant negative comments about the Tea Party, and their, always, glowing reviews of the Annointed One and the OWS crowd. Their attacks on anything conservative, white, and Christian contrasted with the always positive reviews (no matter how bad he performed) of Obama, Unions, and any Democrat, have, I believe, caused more of a divide than anything else.

Posted on August 9, 2012 at 1:35pmDemocrats are no longer the party of John Kennedy, it’s more like a cult. Do you think for one second John Kennedy would come out with any sleeze talk about his opponent. Look out for yourself and your family, because these people have definite cult drive.

Posted on August 8, 2012 at 11:10pmNo, because many of us in here already have the solution. But since this country is turning away from God instead of towards Him it is all pointless. We just keep on with the status quo, in an ever steeper tailspin straight to hell…Nothing new really…

If trolltrainer and Barber 2 didn’t answer your question, you belong to Obama. You may as well leave the site because you don’t want an answer.
Let me try something:
One, Ike said without Free Trade there can be no democracy. Two, I’d like too keep our Republic and Constitution. Three, keep Freedom of Religion. Four, Get rid of the ‘Great Divider’ causing hate. Five, Get rid of any Sal Alinsky diciples, Obama’s Gang. (silence and rudicule, the end justifies the means crap, you know…Bill Aryes Weather Underground ready to murder 25 million Americans who don’t want the New Government, etc, etc.)
I can’t go on. If those two, and this little bit from me don’t say anything to you, you’re already bought and sold on the failure of this once great nation. I hope you and others see the light before it’s out.

Posted on August 8, 2012 at 9:40pmObama and /or his supporters has been spewing “anti” rhetoric for as long as I can remember and the Lefty Lap Dog Media has been propagandizing it for the public. I remember the ACORN people demonstrating in bankers’ front yards; the unions mobs demonstrating in Wisconsin aimed at trashing Walker; the Democrat legislators there fleeing to Illinois; the anti Tea Party rhetoric ( all of that white, Bible thumping, gun- holding, ignorant conservative garbage) ; the anti-Wall Street / bankers/ CEOs verbal flame- throwings of Obama which gave rise to the OWS tax drainers in Democrat controlled cities; the anti “ rich” who don’t pay their taxes speeches which Obama is still throwing out to his angry base; and now the cherry on the top of the sundae : anti Bain / Romney/ Rich guy mess that this irresponsible “Always Campaigning ” guy who Occupies the White House is using to make his angry/ alienated base get to the polls to vote against evil Republican Romney. This is the ugliest campaign of negative, nasty, anti-capitalism rhetoric I have ever seen. Is this America ? Oh, forgot. This is the OBAMA DEMOCRAT’S America. A new angry, Third World America . Nobama 2012

Posted on August 8, 2012 at 9:03pmThe loathing of the other guy is what it is…not a news story. I’d love to hear WHY they hate the other guy. Wouldn‘t it be funny to see how many supporters of Romney don’t like Obama for his policies on healthcare? Even better, the left who doesn‘t like Romney because he’s in bed with big business. Ha, what a hoot!
Sheeple are stupid I suppose.

Posted on August 8, 2012 at 9:02pmThe left just understands that the biggest motivating factor they have to get people to the polls to vote for Obama is to scare the crap out of them. So…It is more of the evil tea party and the mean, nasty conservatives that want to form militias and take the country by force…
Whatever…
Want to know why it is polarized? We are simply tired of stupid.
