Experts and economists are predicting that the U.S. poverty level will climb toward its highest level in 50 years, which the Associated Press notes will erase “gains from the war on poverty in the 1960s.” Upon the release of census figures for 2011 this November, and to the reelection campaign’s chagrin, authorities across the political spectrum expect a rise in the official poverty rate from 15.1 percent in 2010 to as high as 15.7 percent.
While there has been a great focus on the wealth of Mitt Romney and a subdued yet continued discussion of income inequality that the Occupy Wall Street movement emphasized in 2011, the issue of poverty has not been as prevalent on the campaign trail of late. The lack of attention given to rising poverty from Democrats, where the issue holds symbolic importance with the party’s liberal base, might have to do with the ineffective polices from the Obama administration to curbing the problem.
On ‘Real News’ Tuesday the panel discussed the rising poverty rate and what it says politically; on an ideological level and for the remainder of the 2012 campaign season.

Posted on July 31, 2012 at 7:47pmThe materialistic culture we are now living in within the United States is getting way out of control. It‘s gotten to the point to where if one doesn’t have one million dollars in the bank or stashed out in the backyard somewhere, then they consider themselves poor or in poverty. I find this to be absolutely nauseating. I thank my Heavenly Father for me not suffering from the 50 cent syndrome: “Get rich quick or die trying” Also keep in mind that poverty is a state of consciousness.

Posted on July 25, 2012 at 8:43amPoverty has obviously lost its original meaning in this country, because there is very little of it, if any.
Just look at how fat people are nowadays and throughout the history of the world, there has been no greater indicator of wealth than obesity. Fat, fat, fat!!!
Look at average photos of people today and then check out photos of the same during the 1950′s; it’s remarkable the sheer size increase of people today – it’s disgusting. Then, morons will have us believe there is poverty in this country? Are you freaking kidding me???

Posted on July 25, 2012 at 7:27amAlong with open borders, no voter ID laws, Dream Act by decree, explosion in food stamps, gutting of welfare requirements/reform, etc – its called expanding the underclass to establish a permanent voting bloc majority for the DemocRats. Obama’s American Dream = aspire to be “middle class” which is subsisting on government entitlements confiscated from the producers and creators – who didn’t really make it happen by the way. Please “undecided” voters, wake up and vote Obama out. I‘ll take my chances on Romney who isn’t a communist and believes in free market capitalism. Our troubles are much deeper and permanent than a healthy economy can solve altogether, but without it, we’re toast as a nation and people. We need a surge in the economy and people working again and regaining confidence in “yes, I can do it”.
