The Tea Party was founded on the notion that principles are more important than party, and have since seen a considerable deal of success in campaigns. But a challenge comes at the end of the month in the deep red state of Texas where a run-off election between Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz will determine the GOP nominee for Senate. There has been some teeth gnashing among Tea Party activists that the sort of national support enjoyed by Richard Mourdock in Indiana, hasn’t been seen in the race for Ted Cruz.
Cruz and Dewhurst don’t differ on many issues, yet one Texan has been anointed the candidate of principle and the other a candidate of the establishment, and the “party.”
What does “principles over party” really even look like? A recent Associated Press article illustrates the difficulties in answering this question, reminding us that pro-free market does not equate to pro-big business.
“Conservative republicans have roughed up the business community this year – and it’s not over yet…when it comes to many of industry’s top legislative priorities, conservative lawmakers…have thrown up roadblocks to tasks that had been easy before the 2010 election….their ideological leaders argue that the marketplace should dictate what businesses thrive and falter, not Washington.”
Joined by Matt Kibbe of FreedomWorks and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher’s Communications Director Tara Setmayer, the panel discussed the Texas race and supporting principled candidates who can both campaign and govern:

Posted on July 22, 2012 at 10:38amMy 91-year old mother in-law is a die hard democrat. No matter how I explained to her the disastrous works that Obama has done to our country. She does not care. She cares about her Democrat party. She cares about Roosevelt, the old grandpa’s party. I am having a very tough time convencing her that our country is going to the tank and our Christian religion is being attacked by the Democrats. This principle over party is separating us far apart, and her memory is so lucid that nobody could really confuse her.
Report Post »I kept on talking about all the negative happenings in our country to make her guilty of her party. But I am a Christian and my husband and I could just not abandon her despite of our differences. She irritates me, but her single vote would not make me sleepless because I do other things that are more productive to let principles thrive to let our country move forward.

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 11:14amRomney is merely Party over Principles since basically hes a war mongerish version of Obama. If its principles than its Ron Paul or Gary Johnson. If people believe the other way about Romney than all they believe is fighting Israel and Saudi Arabia’s wars and doing nothing for America.

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 8:07amToo bad that the Tea Party doesn’t have an “official” candidated to run as a 3rd. party candidate. Its time for another party that presents a completely Constitutional choice for America. There is very little difference in the 2 party system objectives — to get re-elected.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 10:34pmPrinciple over party.. that is a joke. People are so caught up in the party label that they would vote for a dead dog if it had the party label attached. I find that most so called “conservatives” cry for the government to get out of our lives except for the things they want the government to intervene in such as marriage. Where in the Constitution does it mention marriage? No different then the Democrats. There are 18 enumerated powers given to the federal government… no more…. no less. Yet both parties want to continue the government power grab in an effort to support their “causes”.
Our politicians have succeeded in turning the general population into a mindless bunch of sheeple who can no longer rationally or objectionably think for themselves. Instead they must be spoon fed by the mainstream media or cable news. Not only have the people been turned into sheeple who are easily led they have been turned into minions of increased government intervention.
Sorry, the Tea Party has been hijacked by the Republican establishment. Most of the so called Tea Party members have voted with the establishment to pass such legislation as the NDAA and CISPA. Are those limited government, free market, freedom bills? If people voted principle over party we would not have Romney as the republican candidate; some one who has flipped and flopped on every important issue. Nor would we have the TOTUS currently in office if people voted for principle.

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 6:05amI say it does not matter, not one iota. The republic will not survive. The powers that got Obama through relative obscurity into the white house, without anybody knowing him, or, vetting him, are working a plan that has been in the works for several generations. It has a supernatural architecture and an international reach. It has momentum fired by the avaricious, lustful greed for power. This force now has the wealth of the world. 100 million American voters and 30 million.mexicans arguing over who surrenders our sovereignty to the NWO, aren’t even a ripple in the pond, can’t change anything. The die is cast. All the world worships the beast. Except you and me, huh, RICCKKY

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 8:16pmWe make a mistake when we choose our representatives because of their party. Whether you vote for a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, Independent, Tea Party, etc., you should vote for the candidate who best represents the interests of his or her constituents, not their party. A major problem in the 2010 election was that many good Democrat House Members were defeated, not because they were not good representatives, but because they angered both sides. Progressives in the Democratic Party abandoned them because they weren’t liberal enough, while Republicans and Independents voted against them because they were, well, Democrats. The so-called Blue Dog caucus was decimated. These were the men and women who were socially moderate and fiscally conservative. Yes, Republicans took control of the House, with the help of the Tea Party, but there was no longer a reasonable opposition party to deal with.
As for Ted Cruz vs. David Dewhurst, I would vote for Cruz, not because he is the anointed one from the Tea Party, but rather because he listens to his constituents, and seems as if he will represent them and not be a knee jerk vote for his party leadership. And if he doesn’t work out, and instead joins the dysfunctional establishment, there is always a term limit – the next election. We need to keep turning out those who represent party over principle.
Report Post »justangry
Posted on July 20, 2012 at 9:02pmAye, listening to the people is definitely important for me. Too many fail to do this an seemingly get a mean streak of arrogance the moment they get to Washington. Let’s hope Cruz makes it and turns out to be one of the few that retain their principles. Nice post!

Posted on July 21, 2012 at 6:29amThere is truly only one viable position……conspiracy theory has magically become “conspiracy reality”. Every body is in on something that everyone else is ignorant of. The basic reason for this state of affairs is that we have rebuilt the tower of babble, and gather together and spout unintelligible, diverse tongues at one another. All the while, distracted, by a cacaphony of illegible drivel, all around. all the time.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 8:09pmIf we kept voting people of principle in over party eventually you would have a government full of people with principle. Voting for the lesser of two evils just give you evil. That idea has us in endless war, bankrupt, and freedoms being taken weekly.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 8:47pmYep, that’s the same Beck who was a middle of the road Bush apologist who supported the bailouts, stimulus, tarp, and the patriot act and then suddenly found his inner constitutionalist so that he could ride the tea party bandwagon until he threw the tea party under the bus by calling them racists

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 7:45pmI’ve heard good things about Cruz. I hope he wins and pans out, I suppose. That Havard Lawschool pedigree though is always a cause of concern.
I get a funny feeling about Matt Kibbe too. He’s the so called Libertarian voice the Blaze seems to using more frequently, but he doesn’t sound like any of the major Libertarians out there. Is he a Libertarian like GB is a Libertarian? Anyone have the scoop on the dude?

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 10:17pmI get the same feeling about him. He says he is for limited government yet Freedom Works promotes the idea of repeal and replace for Obamacare. Replace with the “good” things of Obmacare like insuring your kids until they are 26 and pre-existing conditions. How is that limited government or free market values????
True limited government supporters do not want the “federal” government to replace Obamacare with anything, except the idea that people -not employers, should purchase insurance so they can take it with them. Everything the federal government touches the problem gets worse or a new problem comes into play.

Posted on July 20, 2012 at 7:43pmI am proud to support Ted Cruz in the upcoming election. Cruz has travelled the state, day after day meeting the voters, while Dewhurst has skipped over 35 debates/meetings he was invited to. If Dewhurst refuses to stand before the people now, what would he do if elected? Ted Cruz is going to WA DC to represent us, We the People, not to “join the club”. No one, not even david Dewhurst, is entitled to be a Senator because it is “their turn” or because they can buy the election. The people of Texas are rising up and saying enough of back room deal politicians. We want and demand a Senator that will stand for what he believes and will stand for liberty! Our country is in a crisis and we need a fighter, we need Ted Cruz US Senate 2012
