‘Real News’ War Room: Is Race Being Used as a Wedge Issue in 2012?

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney spoke this morning at the annual NAACP convention in Texas. The decision to appear at the conference raised some eyebrows given the strong support from the African-American community toward Democrats over the last generation, with recent Quinnipiac polling that shows President Obama leading Romney among black voters 92-2. Still, Romney spoke, receiving applause when addressing unemployment in the black community and the failure of the education system for the poor and those living in urban areas. While Romney received a standing ovation at the end of his remarks, a large portion of media coverage from the event has focused on the boos the former Massachusetts governor received from the crowd when discussing his opposition to ObamaCare.

Lost amidst all the perspective Wednesday that Romney’s never going to win this constituency, and maybe the appearance will at least show independent voters that he’s willing to be inclusive, no one has questioned whether the Obama campaign and its surrogates are trying to use race as a wedge issue.

From the Congressional Black Caucus walking out of the contempt vote against Attorney General Eric Holder, to Holder telling the same NAACP conference Tuesday that Voter ID laws equivocate to poll taxes, to one liberal group running a “satire” web video describing Romney as too white for blacks to like, are supporters of the president strategically using race as a wedge?

New York Post Columnist Robert George joined ‘Real News’ Wednesday to discuss this question and Romney’s remarks to the NAACP. Watch a clip from the segment below:

      I agree Equal, Obama is pulling out al the stops He is so confident in receiving over 95% of the black vote he sends his flunky Biden to the NAACP meeting instead of showing up himself. He has polarized America so badly that he changed his tune on queer marriage (sorry I can’t get myself to call them gay since gay means to be happy and does not pertain to sexual orientation). Obama is unconstitutionally giving amnesty to illegal immigrants and is fighting tooth and nail the Voter ID requirement since he will make sure that these illegals will cast their votes for him along with the queers and the uneducated welfare recipient blacks and of course the liberals that would vote for anybody that is not for what America truly stands for.
      I encourage all honest, good citizens of America to go out and purchase a legal firearm, get a CC permit and be prepared since I do believe that when Obama loses in November America will see a race riot like one they never saw before, and while we still have the 2nd amendment of the Constitution to protect us legally, we may have to defend our families, ourselves an our property.
      I do not want to see this happen since I don‘t want to kill any of my fellow American’s, but I do want to insure that my family remains safe. When I saw the video and listened to the audio of the New Black Panthers saying that they will kill all of us pink arsed whites, I took that as a erious threat, and our AG did nothing about it, so I will have to do it myself.

    For a while now it has been about race and that is why Barack Obama made it to the Senate. The progressive democrats are using him, but I don’t think all black people are used and there will be many of color that are long forgotten when the progressives succeed with the NWO. …so all Americans of every race better wake up.

    It is about race, and if you let this idiot get reelected you will see a hugh expansion of the Affirmative Action Program that will include everyone but the white male. The SBA is giving away billions to new Black owned businesses, while the white applicants are being slow tracked.
    It is about race, and it has been since this white hating student of Black Theology was elected by white guilt ridden liberals, and other idiots. You best realize the nature of the racist attitude brought about by the Obama Administration. The middle class has already been robbed, by the loss of home value. That money that you are losing is being given to the welfare class every month.

The deck has been stacked for the blacks for so long.But there is no end to their demands.The whites are being out-sourcedbut refuse to look at it that way. Well , your kids and grandkids will sure look at it.The tens of millions of illegals being let in here are also destroying the white race and obama and holder know it. This is all being done on purpose.We have a South Africa happening right in front of our eyes.I would say wake the hell up but i think it is to late.This is not equality these people want.There should not be one white vote for obama or anyone in his party. When no blacks vote for the white guy where do you reckon they are going with that?

      I have no problem what so ever with any minority being a business owner because after they are business owners they will see their hard work going to support the lazy whites that are now on the welfare roles. So in supporting minority owned business they are actually turning their major supporters into conservatives over time because no matter the color of your skin, business and greed and wanting to keep the profits of your labors is universal. So I say promote all the minority owned businesses you can. LOL

    I personally have not seen race issues in this country this bad since the sixties. I must say Obama has backed this country up 50 years on this issue. It’s clear to see that Obama is using the black community as political slave for his own gains.

    & the other a Black Professor -who just got a Huffington Post gig- critiqued Romney’s NAACP speech),
    are perfect examples of a vast majority of victimization, racism and self-rightousness…
    and show that,

    Yes, race is being used as a wedge in the 2012 campaign,

      A few days ago MUTINEER stated he could care less if Ron Paul wrote those racist, bigoted, disgusting, vile and anti-Semitic ~Ron Paul Newsletters~, so we can understand why he doesn’t see race as an issue. It wouldn’t fit in with the “ignore” that Ron Paul race stuff that has been a continued factor in his regular exercise of Liberal-tarian Party/Republican Party nomination/Presidential election crashing and burning…

      If the leader of the Black Panthers planned to cut spending, end the wars, and restore our freedoms I would vote for him.

      What you are failing to understand we are going to go bankrupt. What do you think is going to happen when we do? We are going to have riots, looting, rapes, and murders on our streets everywhere. Our military men are going to be forced to come home and who will “protect” Israel then? Hell who will protect us? After the dollar is unpinned from oil, which bankruptcy will cause we will be pushed into a global government and currency. Our lifestyles will be moved towards the bottom, not the rest of the world brought up to us.

      Both of talk bad about Ron Paul but never talk about issues. Its always frivolous issues like news letters or you twist words like by saying things like “Ron Paul is building a nuke for Iran”. When you really look at the issues, Ron Paul dominates Romney.

      Spending, Ron Paul cuts more.
      Wars, Ron Paul ends them.
      Freedoms, Ron Paul restores them.
      He is the only one willing to try and take on the FED.
      He is the only one wanting to end the TSA.
      He is the only one that wants to get government out of healthcare.

      Can he win? NO, but will Romney do anything different than Obama? No, so this is the perfect time to vote to tell the GOP they dont own my vote and to quit shoving crappy candidates like McCain and Romney down my throat.

      Unbelievable. I can see you now with a Black Glove on and your r3volutionary fist raised in support of Malcom X (another chicken coming home to roost guy like Rearend Wright and Paul) and his influence of the Black Panthers, along with Huey Newton, Bobby Seale and Angela Davis for their visions of freedom.

      So I guess you were also a supporter of David Duke’s run for state office and POTUS (he’s a Paul endorser with similar platform) and must like the fact that Louis Farrakhan and other‘s like him endorse certain Paul idea’s for the fact that they see him as a vehicle for the advancement of their racist and anti-Semitic views…

      Yea Sam but 92-2. 92% of blacks in this country are not in poverty, not even close. As a matter of fact statistics say more whites are on welfare than blacks and where I live I see alot of blacks driving fine automobiles. Blacks will vote for Obama because he is black. He would not have got elected in 2008 without a significant white vote. Who are the racists?
