LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — An Arkansas woman who stars on the TLC reality show “19 Kids and Counting” has suffered a miscarriage after announcing she was expecting her 20th child.
Jim Bob Duggar said in a statement that he and his wife, Michelle, were told at a doctor’s appointment Thursday morning that she had miscarried. He says she is resting comfortably at home and asked for privacy.
Michelle Duggar announced last month she was expecting her 20th child in April and had said she wasn’t worried, despite the premature birth of their youngest child two years ago. She said last month that she had made it through the first trimester safely.
The reality show chronicles the family’s home life. The couple has said they don’t use birth control.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 9:18amFirst, sympathies to her and the family. Losing a child prematurely is an awful thing.
Having said that, I was forced to watch this show about a year ago and in the epidsode I saw the mother thought she might be preggers again (no idea which kid so don’t ask). She was talking to her doctor and her doctor warned her multiple times in their conversation that having anymore kids would have serious consequences on her health and the health of her baby. The mom basically said she didn’t care what the doctor said, it would be “God’s will” if she got preggers. This is strictly my opinion but that seemed like a selfish thing to me. She had been warned that she could be putting lives in jeopardy (her and her baby’s) and she just shrugged it off anyway. Either way, kudos to her and her husband for raising that many children on their own.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 11:14amwell said. Actions have consequences and I hate it when people renounce responsibility by saying “It must have been God’s will…” Maybe God was trying to speak to her through this highly educated medical professional who warned her not to have more kids?

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 1:21pmYes, and as we all know doctors are infallible beings whose advice we should follow without questioning.
Doctors, when giving advice about future consequences are giving you a highly educated guess. Yes it is based upon what has happened in past cases, but there are always exceptions which is why it comes down to the patient to make the final decision. Doctors and patients both make poor decisions and hindsight is 20/20. Are we really questioning what a devout Christian would chose when asked to abort a baby on a maybe?
I amazes me how many posts must come from people with such intimate knowledge of the situation to be able to make the statements they do.
Mercy and love are very rare in life and as is giving someone the benefit of the doubt.
If “Do unto others as you have them do to you” is right, then there are a lot of people in the world that like to be treated really bad.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 3:43pmSo, what you‘re saying JNORTH21 is that doctor’s are basically God. If a doctor warns you of something, regardless of what it is, then you should listen or you’re “selfish”?
Doctors don’t know anything. They’re human and they make mistakes. I’m not even a Bible-thumper, but I’d put my faith in God and nature when it comes to human beings having babies. The woman successfully carried 19 babies to full term – you don‘t think maybe she’s a bit of an expert on what she can and can’t handle?
Oh, and how about women who fail to succusfully have a child on their first go? Are they selfish, too? You might try thinking things through before posting something like this.

Posted on December 10, 2011 at 7:58pmIt has nothing to do with selfishness. She probably considers birth control and sterilization to be a violation of God’s will for our lives. She and her husband probably believe that God will give them however many children He wants them to have, and that it is not their decision to make. They are totally devoted followers of God, not compromised ones like so many Christians today who follow the Lord as long as it’s convenient.

One of the older boys is a volunteer fireman. How is that dumb? I would venture to say that these homeschooled children are much smarter than the public schooled children. MIchelle Duggar keeps a household of 20 running, keeps meals on the table for all, organizes the schoolwork and housework and any travel of those 20 –doesnt sound like something a “dumb” person could do.

I‘ve already made my comments on her miscarriage so I won’t go into that again but its THEIR business, not YOURS if they choose to use money they make from the TV show to help raise their children. You make a lot of conjectures about these folks intelligence, the intelligence of their children and their own self worth with the only knowledge you have of watching a TV show……what does that say about you? These folks have a lifestyle that is different from mine but I’m not about to knock them. They appear decent, loving parents whose only abberation (if you want to call it that) from the rest of us is to have more then the norm children. Did you ever stop to think that maybe someone one day will not like something YOU do and call you names like you are calling them because they disagree with what you are doing? You don’t like these folks because what, they are on TV and you are not, they aren’t on the dole and you think they should be? Again, you don‘t like them DON’T WATCH THEIR SHOW. Posted on December 9, 2011 at 7:48amLots of folks are critical of these people. It used to not be terribly uncommon for folks to have 7, 10, and 15 kids. Ask anyone from an earlier generation and even more recently in Catholic areas. It wasn’t the rule, but it certainly wasn’t exceptional. People with 2 children, and especially only 1, were considered unusual back then.
Society has trained us to cast aspersions on folks with a ton of kids because they bring up images of that one lady with food stamps and a swarm of unruly children wrecking everyone else’s peace and sanity at the grocery store and terrorizing the neighborhood. Eventually they all grow up to be larger and more unruly adults with food stamps and welfare checks and herds of their own unruly kids in a perpetual cycle of poverty. Now, can you tell me the difference between the welfare queen and the Duggars?
If the Duggars can afford to raise their children in a healthy manner, and their children are raised to become responsible citizens, I see no reason why it should be any concern of mine or anyone else. If they were on welfare, and/or had a group of delinquents, it would be a different story, because then it becomes other people’s problem. Last I heard, this was not the case.

Ozzie and Harriet and Lucy and Ricardo and Beaver’s mother could afford to stay home because the dollar was backed by gold and worth something. A dollar could buy a bushel of apples. Today, our dollar is worth so little it barely buys one or two apples so the mother is forced to work outside the home.
How much is a grain of sand worth? – nothing because it is so common. That is what our dollar is going to be worth because we are printing too much of it to pay our massive debt which devalues our dollar. The privately owned federal reserve is bailing out Greece devaluing our money even more to save the private Gingrich, Romney, Obama, Clinton etc. NONE OF THEM want to go back to a gold backed dollar because they are all the same. For them, the world has focused on what makes them unique to target them for. It doesn’t matter that everyone of their kids feels loved and will be prepared for just about anything having their own family will throw at them and pretty much every other scenario that I can think of and they are well mannered compassionate lovely people (each and every one of them.) They are Christians and because of that they are hated in Jesus’ name. However, they will be given their reward in heaven and they are faithful servents as far as I can see. God Bless them and keep them. Pray for Michelle, no matter how many children you have loosing a baby is hard. Have sympathy and prayers for them all. They are truly lights in this dark world. Posted on December 9, 2011 at 4:44amI am very dismayed at the responses I have head on this site. Once upon a time, women would have 10 children, not to mention the children they lost due to miscarrage and child death before 2 years old due to the lack of medical care or how hard life was back then. God created women’s bodies to endure carrying a child and child birth, it is a strength given to us by God. Huge families are gone by the wayside in today’s day and age because we have sacrificed family size for more “stuff”. Women have gone to the work force, also retracting family size. There is NOTHING WRONG with having a large family, and Michelle has THE RIGHT to do with her BODY as she CHOOSES. All of you should be ashamed who chastise them for having a large family and seeing selfish motives propagating more children. Life is beautiful and I am humbled to see people who accept the blessing of children with open arms. Children ARE a blessing.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 5:51amShe’s a freakin freak show doing this for fame and money. No different than the octomom. Yes, women are free to have many kids if they wish, but they should be able to support them both financially and emotionally. What happens when the show is canceled and the fame goes away?

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 6:05amTheir polite, respectful, and loving children are a blessing not only to them but to those who know them and to the areas where they live. People who mock them are often the ones who complain they aren’t to blame for the disrespectful, out of control ONE child they have. They have no way to make themselves feel better but to put down others who are living a successful, productive life, making their community a better place. If there were more people like these people, it would be a better world. The decent, law-abiding, loving, Godly people should have as many children as they can be blessed with so the world isn’t taken over by greedy, selfish brats like the progressive liberals, socialists/communists, and Occupiers. America was built on the backs of people like the Duggars. God bless them.

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 6:13am@ colorado maverick…wow, quick to judge, hope you feel better about tearing her to pieces. FYI, they DO financially support their kids. Before the show they already had quite a brood and Jim is a very successful businessman. So by your twisted logic we should NEVER undertake anything worth having because gee whiz life might get hard?? Something tells me that THIS family would do just FINE if the show went away. And calling someone a freak does NOT make you correct in any way.

What I find offensive is the WORSHIP of these “Quiver Full” cultists and the pop reality sideshow her litter has become.
Have a big family, just don’t go making it about how “CHRISTIAN” you are.
Everyday millions of Christians choose to have only the number of children that they can PAY ENOUGH ATTENTION TO, that they can AFFORD. If they can afford them, which I know the Duggars CAN, then fine.
But I will challenge you to come back in twenty years and tell me that, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, ALL of those children are well adjusted. There is just NO WAY to meet the INDIVIDUAL PARENTAL BONDING NEEDS of each of NINETEEN children. It is a mathematical impossibility.
So save your sanctimony.

Report Post »A “freakin freak show” and “ like Octomaom” ?
Now let’s see – because obviously you have never watched the show – the Duggers ran and still do – their own commercial rental business which is aside and independent from their TV income. They also tithe regularly so G-d has guaranteed their “welfare.” BUT SHOULD THEY LOSE EVERYTHING – UNLIKE OCTOMOM AND YOU – they are more capable of feeding, housing and clothing themselves and providing each other with emotional support than MOST OF THE COUNTRY INCLUDING YOU IF “IT ALL WENT AWAY” !
They are a very capable, hardworking family and they follow the commandments of G-d, one of which is individual responsibility and the law of “no work no eat.”
So now that you have been shown to be an absolute IDIOT in front of millions of readers.
DO YOU FEEL BETTER ?

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 11:21am@Colorado — she had 16 children before they got their reality show. Its not like she started having children so she could get on TV! Seems to me they would still be having children whether or not they had a show.

She lost a child that she loved and wanted. Is it too much to ask for a time to heal and grieve in private? Junkie, do you have enough Christianity in you to show a little compassion? You have a lot of hatred for this family given the fact that you only watched, what was it, 5 episodes?

I wish we can have more but the twins were so difficult for my wife to carry so I have decided not to let my wife go through that much pain again. If this guy loves his wife and children he would stop. I have seen their show, they look like a happy family but what is the use if she ends up dead next time.

Yes, she has been blessed with 19 other children, all living and healthy even though the last child was born premature. Posted on December 9, 2011 at 2:52amThere are reasons why woman should not have so many kids. The human female’s sex drive drops off for a reason after a birth the female body needs lots of rest after 19 kids this is not g_ds will this is a family with no ph_king clue. Sounds like here old man needs a hobby or a horse to ride instead of trying to end his wife’s life.

Posted on December 19, 2011 at 12:54amAgreed 100% Imawakenow!! I am a full fledged Christian myself, in all ways, but I do believe God shows you when enough is enough. 45 years old and 19 or 20 kids later, whichever it is. How many more does she have to miscarry before they finally stop and one get fixed!! In my opinion, they are killing Gods most loved, a child, every time she miscarries, its another death I know God doesn’t approve. Reality tv should not be about deaths involving unborn children, they need to do the right thing and they need to understand their Bible better when they read it, that’s my opinion…

Posted on December 9, 2011 at 2:09amThis woman needs rest, and lots of it. Her body has taken a beating with carrying and birthing all those babies. In a nutshell, they need to lay off the SEX for quite a while, since they do not use birth control. Her husband needs to step up and be the man and suck it up for a while and LEAVE HER ALONE SEXUALLY, whether he or she wants to. They have lots of children to care for and they can‘t do that adequately if mom’s health is in danger or fragile. They could even lose her if they aren’t careful…..so take the big step dad and be “the man” and put a halt to sexual things until the doctors say she is healthy enough to carry another baby, if thats what they want. God bless all. “Every knee will bow and every tongue confess”
