Is climate change a public health problem? Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) thinks so.
Capps pointed to a 2009 article in The Lancet, a medical journal, that said climate change could be the “biggest global health threat of the 21st century.”
“That makes climate change a bigger public health problem than AIDS, than malaria, than pandemic flu,” Capps said. “That’s why we need to take steps to address this cause behind this growing public health problem.”

Just hours before a vote Wednesday on a GOP plan to block Environmental Protection Agency climate regulations, Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.) called climate change a bigger public health threat than AIDS, malaria and pandemic flu.
Capps and several other liberal Democrats spoke out Wednesday morning in opposition to the legislation, authored by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-Mich.).
The lawmakers, who were joined by officials from the American Lung Association and the Union of Concerned Scientists, said the Upton bill would harm public health.
Capps pointed to a 2009 article in The Lancet, a medical journal, that said climate change could be the “biggest global health threat of the 21st century.”
“That makes climate change a bigger public health problem than AIDS, than malaria, than pandemic flu,” Capps said. “That’s why we need to take steps to address this cause behind this growing public health problem.”

Report Post »They want to impose it on us they should now show us how to live with it, all government employees’ pay should be reduced to the minimum wage in an effort to reduce the amount of money spent in Washington, DC. If their constituents feel that they deserve it let the people of the state that elected them pay them extra money out of their own pockets.
All politicians should drive themselves using their own cars, and be reimbursed 50 cents to the mile, for documented and necessary business trips only, per Map Quest’s point to point mileage date.
Each politician’s staff members should be paid out of the politicians pocket; he’s the one his state elected to pay not his staff. If the state feels that a staff is necessary the state in question can pay their wages.
This includes the President’s staff and if the president is married, his wife needs no staff paid for by the American people.
No air fair will be paid be the American people, and if a military flight is used it must be paid for at the going civilian carriers, first class rates.
Most of Washington, DC should be closed down for eight months of each year; this will allow the elected politicians to keep in touch with the people who elected them into office.
If budgets are not submitted on time all of the politicians responsible should be fined $100.00 every day the budget is late, and that money should be paid towards the debt.
If there is no money in the coffers no money will be spent. Stop “spend then tax”
I have more ideas but no one wants to hear what I have to suggest….

Anytime I hear the word ‘global’, I get a little worried about the source. Why would she assume that their statistics are accurate? It’s the richie rich of Santa Barbara, CA, that stretches up the coast, at time only a few feet wide, snaking its way in and around Democrat only area. She road her husband’s coattails into to office when he died suddenly after his election.
California voters approved two measures last year that will fundamentally alter congressional elections by giving an independent commission the power to redraw districts and placing the top two winners in a primary into the general election, even if they are from the same party. Sounds crazy, but it’s going to push a lot of Dems out and create some interesting voting scenarios that, I hope, will help turn the state around.
