‘Rednecks Resort,‘ ’Redneck Games,’ & ‘Redneck Olympics’: These Exist, and We Have the Video

It’s summer. And in honor of summer’s premiere holiday, 4th of July, yesterday we brought you the 76 quintessential staples of Americana. But one we may have missed is the American “Redneck.” Luckily, CNN is there to remind us.

This week, CNN noticed a variety of Redneck news reports hitting the airwaves. But they weren’t just any Redneck videos — they were videos of Rednecks having, as they say, “a good ol’ time.” After we saw them, we just had to include them below.

First up is a news report about a new “Redneck resort” that opened in Tennessee. In short, it’s a backyard, mud-filled theme park. And it’s quite the site to behold. Take a look (and bonus points if you can figure out what the man at about the 10-second mark is saying):

Then, of course, there are the Redneck Games in Georgia where a favorite is the mud pit swimmin’ hole (which is also used for the belly flop events) and the hubcap hurl:

And what summer would be complete without the “Redneck Olympics” in Maine? Our thoughts exactly:

The “Redneck Olympics,” however, hasn’t been without controversy. Last year organizers were allegedly told by the U.S. Olympic Committee to drop the word “Olympics” from the title or face legal repercussions. It looks like the threat, however, fell on deaf ears.

    I am a southerner and proud of it. The north thinks all southerners are rednecks which is not true but is true in some ways.We all have attachments to the land. We all hunt and fish at some time or other. Some can do it more often but we all enjoy it. We can take off our suits on weekends and enjoy ourselves in the country and at a ‘redneck olympics’. I’d rather spend my time among rednecks than among the snotty, false educated, ‘professional’ class. The professional classes are essentially helpless. They can’t survive and will not survive in the coming collapse. Rednecks will survive and live well in any time or through any trial.

      I live in a very diverse subdivision.. feel VERY secure.. BECAUSE we have a lot of REDNECKS.. one thing for sure if the SHTF those are the people I want to know .. NOT someone who can read and NOT do.. BTW.. my great great grandparents came from the south which might be why I feel so comfortable when I travel down south.. hope to retire there..

      The rednecks of the south were the ones who taught the southern blacks how the ways of the white man… and now the prisons are full of “redneck” blacks. Meanwhile the blacks of the north never learned how to be rednecks and thus became part of the intelligencia of America.

    Here in beautiful East Tennessee we prefer the term HillBilly. I once heard someone say that if they a choice beween an encounter with a Gang Member or a HillBilly their choice was Gang Member because they will just shoot you but a HillBilly will keep you.

      Yep. Those *smart* people don’t even know the origin of the term. Being a “red neck” means that you work outside and your neck gets sunburned. As opposed to all those office workers who get their tans in a tanning bed. Their ignorance really shows when you consider that those urban “white necks” couldn’t survive without the red necks growing and harvesting food, building and maintaining pipelines and refineries to fuel the trucks that take them the food, building and maintaining the roads and highways the trucks use, and building and maintaining the power stations and power lines to run the refrigeration units that keep their food from spoiling and the water and sewage facilities that keep them alive.

      BTW “white necks” doesn’t mean white as in racially white. It means white as in non-sunburned necks, clean finger nails, and using a cell phone instead of a pair of jumper cables when their car won’t start.. There are lots of black and hispanic and asian “red necks.”

      There are times when I think all the red necks ought to get together and take a couple of months off just to see the “white necks” howl. But then, that just isn’t who we are.

      Hey John Larson don’t be so hateful towards rednecks, I have met and taken care of these so called rednecks, many go on to serve in our military and can shoot better than most others and survive when others will fail. Their children say sir and mam , there is quit a few in the USMC, thank GOD for the rednecks that have served and continue to serve this country.

    And to think the term “redneck” is a racial term for “Whitey”……..imagine if we replaced the word “redneck” with the “N word” how funny this “story” would be? Your right it sure wouldn’t be!! As a Country boy I take offense to this term being used by ANYONE else but us Good ol Boys!!! I am sure the Communist News Network (CNN) piece was NOT meant to be fun or serious but, one more jab against all of those people “clinging to their Bibles and Guns”……I do have a sense of humour and I take this in stride, I have just come to a point in my life that it’s WAY overtime to push back on the PC police and how they seem to get a free ride on this subject!!!

    As fun as this is, some of the damage these guys do to land is disgusting. While it‘s not bad if it’s private land on man made lakes/ponds, when they do it to rivers and streams, it can spoil a natural resource that should be enjoyed by future generations. We have some family land on the Pearl River in Mississippi, that as a kid we swam in, jumped bikes off in, and even road 3 wheelers over, we respected the beauty and tried to leave the land better than we found it. Unfortunately directly up stream a group has opened a 4 wheeler playground, and has 100 to 200 people each weekend on 4 wheelers come down and play for a few dollars each. They have made such a mess, that the water that comes by our land is so muddy, the cows won’t drink from it, and we had to build a damn and create a new lake to have our cattle somewhere to drink. And they robbed my son from getting to stroll along the river with his grand dad the way I got to when I was a kid.

      Well why don’t we just ban any dirt moving or disturbance at all. No heavy equipment moving dirt no wheeling at all on unpaved surfaces. So its left pristine and undisturbed for many generations.. Wait how bout we eliminate all humans? That’ll be even better so the river otter and beavers can destroy land their own way.

      Logic like that leads to the extremes I just stated. Americans have done more to the preservation of the soil and prevention of soil loss…

      TROLL, suppose they should change the name to the Jeff Foxworthy Games to be politically correct?
      I’m from the South although I have lived in California, NY, Florida, and NC. I have no fascination with NASCAR myself, but I find nothing wrong with it. Just as NASA research has lead to much of the technology we use day to day. NASCAR’s research and rules have helped the auto manufacturers to improve safety and other technologies with our cars. You obviously just hate anybody who does something other than what you do, and you fail to see beyond the tip of your nose.
      Just remember our cultural differences are ‘the spice of life.’ If we were all just like you, the world would be a very boring place. Same goes if all were like me. That being said, please do us all a favor and go pound salt.

    I am from southeast Oklahoma; I grew up on a large ranch. I love to hunt, fish and I drive a pickup and a Corvette. I have a Masters Degree and work as a corporate slimeball but I still see a lot of myself in the redneck brand of humor. I do not find it demeaning and I wear the redneck title proudly.
