Regis Spanks Female Guest, Then Tells Off-Color Joke

Maybe Regis Philbin is getting old. Maybe he’s turning to shock-jock tactics in order to boost ratings. Both would explain his “spanking” of musical guest Nicki Minaj‘s during Monday’s Las Vegas “Live With Regis and Kelly.”
After Minaj finished a musical number on the show, Regis and Kelly went over to interview the singer. One thing led to another, and eventually Regis “complimented” Minaj’s outfit by spanking her. He then followed it up with a dirty joke. After Minaj said that fellow singer Lil Wayne gave her advice that said to “Go hard,” Regis quipped: “Go hard? Wish I could!”
After the initial incident, Kelly yelled: “Regis! What just happened?!”

Or, are the producers so damn greedy that they keep sending Regis out in front of the cameras regardless of how bad he’s getting, because without him, ratings would be worse? The fact that he’s slipping and humiliating himself means nothing to those guys as long as he brings in the bucks. IT’S A DIRTY BUSINESS!

Posted on November 30, 2010 at 12:19pm1. There’s always been sexual discussions and innuendos on this show (especially originating from Kelly), and so there’s always been a general atmosphere of sexual tension. It’s why the show works.
2. Minaj told Regis “Hi, gorgeous!”, and also complimented him on his clothes, so there was a little playful, flirty banter going on.
I don’t think Regis meant anything bad. I think he just got caught up in the moment, and lost track of where the boundaries were.
Innocent mistake. He should just apologize to Minaj if she was offended, and move on.
