Reid Drops Support for Controversial $1.2T Spending Bill

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid criticized Republicans Thursday for not supporting his 1,924-page $1.2 trillion catch-all spending bill, claiming the bill’s failure will “cause people to lose their job.” In exchange, Reid said he would work with Republican leaders on a smaller, short-term budget fix to avoid a government shutdown.

According to Reid, at least nine GOP senators had pledged support for the measure, but suddenly balked under the controversial pressure of growing earmarks. Instead, Republican Senate leader Mitch McConnell proposed a resolution that would extend government funding for the next two months, allowing the new Republican House majority and bolstered GOP presence in the Senate to take up the measure in February. Reid pledged to work with McConnell to finalize such a measure.

The AP reports:

“Just a few weeks after the voters told us they don’t want us rushing major pieces of complicated, costly, far-reaching legislation through Congress, we get this,” McConnell said. “This is no way to legislate.” …

The catchall bill wrapped together 12 bills into a single foot-tall piece of legislation that Democrats had hoped to pass with just a couple of days’ worth of debate.

It was designed to bankroll the operations of every Cabinet agency for the budget year that started Oct. 1, funding the almost one-third of the federal budget that Congress has to pass each year.

The House and Senate typically spend months on the 12 annual spending bills, but Democrats didn’t bring even a single one to the Senate floor this year, an unprecedented collapse of an appropriations process.

The bill’s failure also represents a significant setback for the Obama administration who recently reiterated its support for the measure, despite its provisions to block funding for the transfer of detainees from Guantanamo Bay.

Yep, stop the Dream Act and the Start Treaty.

Re: the Dream Act. These “children” were born in a foreign land. Their parents are not American citizens. The entire family needs to go back to their Country of origin and apply for USA citizenship.

Re: Children of illegal aliens born on USA soil. This amendment to our Constitution doesn’t need to be change – only clarified. It was never intended to grant citizenship on a child born of two illegal aliens. It came about to grant citizenship to the children of slaves. The slaves were brought here against their will. That was it’s only purpose.

RE: The Start Treaty. There is a real need for our Congress to find out exactly what is in this treaty before ratifying it. Some amendments are actually written in Russian and need to be translated to see what is in this treaty. The Ă˜bama Administration wants it passed, without reading it. That’s a red flag that this treaty should be completely understood before ratifying it.

These last few weeks can’t go by fast enough. Notice how Republicans are as desperate as Democrats to prevent a government shutdown? Think that maybe if there was a government shutdown we’d realize how little that shutdown impacts our lives and how oversized the government is and that would support the conservative belief that the country can survive with smaller, limited government? I say send all “non-essential” government employees home for good. Let them try to succeed in a free market in the private sector based on merit.

Our numbers are growing and will continue as we expose the progressives for what they are. I am proud to be a part of history and the Tea-Party will remain the key to getting this country back on track. I am also happy to see the GOP listening to the people, and if they don’t they can kiss their political careers good-bye. They still have to prove themselves but this was a good start. Just look at this site, I know alot of people that think the Tea-Party is a joke. But guess what ? They read the comments that we post. Some of them have even said that they were surprised at the lack of coverage from the main-stream media. Maybe there is still hope for them to switch over to our side.

That, included with Fox news, Megan Kelly, and other telling our dear dictators that they WILL be exposing them and their vote after a very stern message from their bosses. But that was the easy part, the Tea Party flat out got it done in spite of every attack the left had in their book.

      An unpopular idea:

We are yet to be judged as a nation with the ban on “ask don’t tell” banned. It is not intolerance that prompts me but fear of the Lord among those that truly want to aspire as Christians and Jews that strive for blessing through faith and spiritual perfection.

And ultimately how can an army stand to face death on a daily basis if it is infected by lies from these reprobates in congress that want one size to fit all even our elites in the field that are supposed to represent our best Christian Judeo teachings?!

We as a nation shall fail if we don’t get this right no matter whatever other economic breakthroughs we make in congress!

God is real. God is living. God is to be feared above all and particularly above fear of man. Fear not man but fear God and obey ALL his commandments, principals, and precepts. Hate not the sinner but hate the sin and be unafraid to speak freely against the current insanity.
