Rep. Allen West: Nazi Joseph Goebbels Would ‘Be Very Proud of the Democratic Party’

Rep. Allen West said Thursday the top Nazi propaganda minister would “be very proud” of the Democrats because of their skill in convincing the American people that the only people to blame for the problems in Washington are the Republicans.
“If Joseph Goebbels was around, he’d be very proud of the Democrat Party, because they have an incredible propaganda machine,” the Florida Republican told reporters in the Capitol, Politico reported.
“You have the president, who has an incredible megaphone and a platform, and he has people all across this country believing that the only people on Capitol Hill are House Republicans. He’s not talking anything about his controlled Senate. So, it’s a great propaganda machine. And I have to give him kudos for being able to leverage that,” he said.
West also accused some in the media of “enabling” the Democrats to do so.
“Let’s be honest, you know, some of the people in the media are complicit in this, in enabling them to get that type of message out,” he said.
West, whose South Florida district is heavily Jewish, predicted his words would be used to “demonize” or “demagogue” him and insisted he was only making the comparison to propaganda, not comparing the Democratic Party to Naziism as a whole.
“I’m talking about propaganda, OK,” he said. “Don’t start taking my words and twisting it around. I’m talking about propaganda. And I think that’s a very important thing. When you tell me that everyone thinks that the only people on Capitol Hill are House Republicans, it‘s because that’s what’s being portrayed, is that there’s nobody else up here.”
“Once again, you guys will take whatever I say and you will spin it to try to demonize me or demagogue me,” West added. “What I’m talking about is a person that was the minister of propaganda. And I’m talking about propaganda. So please. I’ll be prepared to wake up tomorrow and you guys make up some crazy story. Whatever.”
Reaction to West’s comments poured in Thursday, with the National Jewish Democratic Council releasing a statement condemning him for “invoking the Holocaust to make a political point.“ The organization called on West to immediately apologize to the Jewish community and ”the Americans who fought valiantly to defeat the Nazis.”
“Shame on him,” tweeted Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. “Rep West needs to apologize now for insulting the memories of the millions who lost their lives during the Holocaust.”
Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) sent West a personal handwritten note Thursday to say he was disappointed in the remarks, Politico reported.
“He was a vicious notorious anti-Semite who went down in history as propagandist for Hitler,” Conyers, the senior-most black lawmaker in Congress, wrote in reference to Goebbels. “I beg of you to help raise the level of congressional discourse so that we can engage in vigorous debate without resort[ing] to personal attacks.”
But West refused to back down, reportedly responding: “Mr. Conyers, The Democrat Party does indeed have a vicious propaganda machine. It espouses lies and deceit and the Master of deceptive information would truly be proud…I have been personally attacked and denigrated on countless occasions. I do not appreciate your letter…Truth is Powerful Sir! Steadfast & Loyal, Allen.”
In 2010, then-candidate West refused to apologize after he accused a Democratic “tracker” recording one of his campaign appearances of using “Gestapo-type intimidation tactics,” according to the Miami Herald.

Nazis were some of hte worst peopel this planet has seen and noone on the right nor left shoudl be compared to them. Just because you lean right doesnt mean that those that dont agree and lean left shoudl be compared to a nazi.
I am left leaning ( though agree with some positions on the right) and am a 3rd generation war vet who faught for your freedom. My grandfather nearly lost his ife in Pearl Harbor and my fahter lost his leg in Vietnam and we all leaned left. WWe are true Americans and showed our love of Country by swearing an oath to risk our lives for this country and to be compared to a NAzi is an insult to all that have served. Grow up GOP. Technically if you want to be precise, he should have said “Fascists” or the name of a given Italian Fascist party leader, to keep the non-sequitur of Nazi atrocities from entering the conversation. From my rather well studied view, the policies advocated by most progressives are identical to those of fascists, excepting of course genocide. Then again, the fascists never sold their program with genocide at the forefront, they went for the whole nationalism and “we all need to sacrifice” meme more often than not, stressing the socialist aspects of fascism.
Had he said it in the manner I outlined, he’d be absolutely correct.
That to the side, I find West a disingenuous and false advocate for freedom, given as he’s all gung ho about detaining Americans in America forever without a trial. I don’t need friends like him.
We don’t agree on much Nevermind (though as I’m a libertarian, we should share some common ground on civil liberties and social issues), but I do respect your opinion on topics and I’m not totally disagreeing with you on this, I just believe you’re focusing on atrocities and not policies, which is what I suspect West meant.

The Nazis were just really good at it, as they had a highly educated, highly skilled and very set in their traditions population that they had to convince to go rotten, and not just your average semi-illiterate lumpen proletariat such as the Russians or Chinese had to contend with.

However, Joseph Goebbels provides more punch to the argument, since most people haven’t heard of Edward Bernays or his book Propaganda, written in 1928.

He also seems to think Americans are too stupid to see the truth, and that can only be because of propaganda.
It’s the same kind of trick that Goebbles would use, the kind of thing that brought Hitler to power. I’m not comparing West to Hitler and his Nazi policies, I’m just saying Rep. West is using the same techniques to make his point as Hitler did in his speeches to the German people. I’m not saying West is in favor of the of the mass execution of jewish people like Hitler, I‘m just saying that I’m reminded of the way Hitler spoke whenever I read things West says. In many ways they are the same obviously. There‘s a difference between that and comparing West to Hilter’s policies. Don’t twist my words when I compare West to Hitler, especially since I said I was only comparing him to some things about Hitler, not all.

In the 2008 election the popular vote wasn’t that far off and that was after a lot of people were fed up with W Bush. Now Democrats are tore up about it, and try to twist what he said, which is right on par with the status quo. I would even go further and say that the type of propaganda that the Democratic Party is engaged in is very much the same found in Germany as Hitler began to rise. If you don’t like it, stop it.

I’ve also skimmed through the bits and pieces of the book as a whole and it is scary what some of the chapters are much less what they have in the substance of them. The one that got me was the “Queer Manifesto” It’s disturbing that people actually read this and adhere to some of the ideals. It‘s troublesome reading but if a person wants to know what’s going on in an Occupier’s head, the entire “History As a Weapon” book would be where I’d go to get in their minds.

Nazis murdered 12 MLN people, a half of whom were murdered on the race basis (Jews) and the major part of whom were foreigners.
Bolsheviks (aka Commies) murdered almost 50 MLN (50,000,000) people, and all of them were own citizens (Bolsheviks’ compatriots) and were murdered on a class and other non-race basis.
Do you think it’s more pleasant, agreeable to be murdered on the class basis than on the race basis?

Been reading your posts for over a year now. In many ways, you remind me of the infamous Tokyo Rose, the female Japanese radio propagandist from WWII. Actually there were quite a few of them, but they shared a common name.
Now I am not saying you share the same beliefs as Rose, so don’t twist my words and say I am comparing the two of you, but there are some eerie similarities in that like her, you incessantly repeat your propaganda with the intent of disrupting the morale of your foes.
And just like our servicemen could get a feel for how effective their actions were by reading in to the desperation of her broadcasts, so can we tell the effect we are having on the left by listening to your cries and desperate attempts to sway our opinions.

I too fought in Viet Nam and today I absolutely do not know why. I got suck into all the propaganda of the time. Propaganda is an extreme powerful tool and if you don’t research everything yourself you will get sucked in. I had to also re-learn history from what I was taught back in the 60’s as well. My friend while I agree we need a to strengthen our faith but we need to do so as individuals. The Lord gave us freedom of choice and thus we will be judged as individuals. Too go down the road of collective salvation is a dangerous path, while it is my job to give my fellow man a hand it is not my place to force them to take that hand.
