Rep. Chris Murphy Wants Clarence Thomas to Be Investigated, Says What Hes Done is Incredibly SeriousBack in February, The Blaze reported on liberal attacks being waged against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. The left, predominately upset over Thomas‘ relationship with conservative donors and with his wife’s involvement in political causes, has been railing against his alleged ethics violations for months now.

In March, more Thomas drama unfolded, as Democrats accused him of perjury for allegedly admitting failure to disclose his wife’s “non-investment income.” At the same time, others were contending that Thomas had repaid a favor to the conservative Citizens United group for assisting him in getting confirmed (they produced an ad campaign for him in 1991). Critics claim that retribution came in the form of a 2010 ruling in their favor at the conclusion of the highly-publicized Citizens United v. FEC case.

And now, according to ThinkProgress, Rep. Chris Murphy (D-CT) is jumping in and questioning whether Thomas should be investigated for his alleged ethics flops. According to The Los Angeles Times:

Rep. Christopher S. Murphy (D-Conn.) has introduced legislation that would subject Supreme Court justices to the same ethical rules that govern lower court judges while establishing additional rules to make the recusal process more transparent.

ThinkProgress seems to applaud Murphy’s efforts to strip Supreme Court justices of immunity from ethical codes that are currently enacted for other federal judges. Murphy’s main goal? To find out if Thomas’ alleged offenses collectively indicate that he should no longer serve on the high court.

The L.A. Times further explains the judicial code:

The Code of Conduct for United States Judges was established by the U.S. Judicial Conference and covers all federal lower court judges. Among other things, the code says that “a judge should avoid impropriety and the appearance of impropriety in all activities.” Supreme Court justices insist that they too are guided by the code, but when it comes to ensuring public confidence, voluntary compliance is no substitute for mandatory adherence.

While it is certainly important that Americans hold all government officials — including justices — accountable, The New York Times makes this important pronouncement when it comes to the code of conduct:

Although the Supreme Court is not bound by the code, justices have said they adhere to it. Legal ethicists differed on whether Justice Thomas’s dealings with Mr. Crow [a conservative donor] pose a problem under the code.

With disagreement clouding the discussion, there’s no telling when or where this scenario will end. Murphy, for one, is continuing to push for more judicial accountability. In an exclusive interview with ThinkProgress, he said:

I think our problem is we don’t know the full extent of Justice Thomas’ connections to [leading GOP donor] Harlan Crow, or, frankly, to a further network of right-wing funders. What he’s done is incredibly serious.

I think, at the very least, his actions should disqualify him from sitting on any cases in which Crow-affiliated organizations are parties to or have attempted to influence [the Court]. But this is starting to rise to the level where there should start to be some real investigations as to whether Clarence Thomas can continue to serve as a justice on the Supreme Court.

Clarence Thomas relationship with Monsanto and a Supreme Court case that grants large biotech corporations like Monsanto extensive patent protection over genetically modified seeds.       If Clarence Thomas is wrong, then he is wrong. If he is making decisions that affect our lives in an adverse manner then it’s outright evil regardless of his political affiliation. I call ‘em as I see em. A conservative does not mean conservative Christian. It does not mean you are always pro business. Eliminating competition via the bench is the reason for antitrust violations which have not been addressed and may not be. There’s a lot going on here and corruption is on both sides. I would rather see a true constitutional conservative judge over a corrupt conservative judge any day. I don’t believe Clarence Thomas serves the constitutional conservative well at all.

This administration is probably buying, heavy duty Made in China paper shredders as we talk. This is the most UNETHICAL administration in our history. I think the average, non-union member realize the left is insecure and the only way they can win is to demonize the conservatives!       The sore-losers on the left better think carefully about what they’re asking for…. if they are able to investigate and “punish” their ideological enemies on the bench, as this liberal stooge proposes, then SO CAN THE MAJORITY ON THE RIGHT. I would LOVE to see Ginsburg‘s and Sotamayor’s connections with the CRIMINAL LEFT and their DIRTY MONEYED SUPPORTERS investigated… at which time it is more likely these two communist-leaning hacks would not only be recused from hearing a VAST majority of cases, but they could very likely be THROWN OFF the court, as well !!

      Perhaps we should offer Mr. Murphy the same scrutiny he would like for the Justice. How bout we go back over the last 120 years and investigate all Justices and in doing so could remove most of the anchors around our necks put there by Progressives. The Supreme Courts function is to adhere to the Constitution. One would think this a relatively easy job, but seeing the miserable failures punctuating the last century, apparently it is not. But this is by design. One bad ruling provides a foundation for others and so on. This is how Progressives operate.

      I’ve always said there are 3 types of Progressives…The Ignorant, The Stupid and The Evil. Fortunately for us the former make up the bulk but they are easily riled up by the latter. You see this in full effect now but it is unraveling. Ideas so ludicrous can never stand in the light of truth and logic.

      I do not know who Chris murhy is, but I have never ben comfortable with Clarence Thomas. He had a sketshy sexual history to start(which I believe he has overcome). But he also seemed the liberal Bush sr.’s affirmative action pick to replace another Afroamerican judge. Why did it have to be a nonwhite person instead of the most qualified person? This is one of the first examples of our lousey decisionmaking based on racial whatever that has led to our current president. We need to get back to the people and religioon principles that made America!

      When a Supreme Court Justices’s wife is bringing home as much money as the Justice is as a lobbyist for an organization whose purpose is to oppose legislation that comes before the Supreme Court, that’s a conflict of interest. The Justice benefits directly and substantially from entities who are bringing a case before him. I want Supreme Court Justices to be independant, but if a Justice benefits materially, financially, from one side or the other he should recuse himself. Pretty simply really.

      Yeah, being a Black Consevative is really a bad thing to the Libs. The poor ignorant black folks have been told how to vote for so long most can do it without the D by the name. They don’t even know who the vote for in most casses. It’s very sad. It was a sin & against the law for blacks to read in the 1860′s. Here we are 150 years later and so many can’t read agian.
