Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.) said he "absolutely" considers Tammy Duckworth a hero. (AP)
Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), facing a multitude of criticism for saying his Democratic opponent talks too much about losing her legs in Iraq, said Friday he “absolutely” considers Tammy Duckworth a hero but that her sacrifice “doesn’t demand our vote.”
Walsh — a Tea Party favorite — made his initial comments about Duckworth’s service during a July 1 town hall, saying of her injuries, “My God, that’s all she talks about“ and charging that ”true heroes” don’t talk about their service.

“In my book any man or woman who wears a uniform is a hero,” Walsh said on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” with guest host Laura Ingraham. “I’ve said that about Tammy countless times.”
Walsh claimed White House strategist David Axelrod and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel are “running” Duckworth’s campaign and “tape every word” Walsh says, hoping to catch him in an outrageous moment.
“You give [Duckworth] enough respect, you treat her like any other candidate,” Walsh said. “We can’t afford to elect anybody this year based just on their bio. Her background deserves and demands our respect, but it doesn’t demand our vote. For that, we’ve got to know what we think you’re going to do when it comes to the issues in this country, and for some reason, she doesn’t talk about those things.”
Pointing out Duckworth has called the Tea Party “loudmouths” in the past, Walsh said she’s “insulting everybody in this country who believes in limited government and freedom, and I just don‘t think that’s going to play in this district or any district.”
Calling Duckworth “the White House’s candidate,” Walsh said he believes he‘s the administration’s No. 1 target for defeat because he’s been so outspoken about President Barack Obama.
“They’re throwing everything at me, including this stuff,” Walsh said. “I’ve got to tell you again, she is a hero and I’ve said that hundreds of times.”
“She’s a war hero with whom you disagree,” Ingraham summed up.

Posted on July 7, 2012 at 1:37pmAs much as I disagree with Maj Duckworth it does no good to criticize her campaign the way Joe walsh did.. ranting on about the way true heroes should act was stupid. Especially coming from a guy who never served and has a reputation as a deadbeat dad whether deserved or not. He needs to take the high road. I am not sure what Walsh has accomplished in his short tenure in office but he needs to be focusing on that. This will hurt him and deservedly so. Duckworth may be in the position with redistricting to win and this could be a forgone conclusion but Walsh won’t get anywhere getting knee deep in the swamps…just a bad rap…

Although I am grateful for heroes like her who suffered great loss for our Freedoms to remain, I would NEVER vote for ANYONE who stands on the side of DESTROYING OUR FREEDOM. This kind of behavior makes absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever! The military was formed to fight for and protect our FREEDOM………then WHY is she fighting now to DESTROY them? She’d NEVER get my vote.

Posted on July 7, 2012 at 2:27pmGood point. After reading her bio, she was a reservist. Which doesn’t detract from her service – but if you read her story, it does speak to her motives. It appears as though she was greasing the wheels for political life – not military service. It reads like her military service was just for a blurb on her resume so she could say “I helped to protect the USA – vote for me.” According to all I have read, including her political views, I would say she was in service for the “title and a paycheck” instead of loyalty to the USA and protection of the Constitution.

It does not qualify someone to hold an office in the goverment any more that those that served and were not wounded. I agree with Walsh to a point; however, she does not deserve anymore respect than any other veteran, and it for sure doesn’t demand our voting for her. Being wounded in battle is not what makes someone a hero.
Report Post »MRMANN
Posted on July 9, 2012 at 5:06amI agree that being wounded in battle does not necessarily qualify someone for being a hero. But traditionally & by both parties, physically disabled people have been trotted out for the sympathy vote. I feel this is pandering to the voters and using the physically disabled. Report Post »Yes, it’s another obvious leftist strategy !!! You pick people who others will be afraid to say anything negative about them b/c of their skin color, religion (Muslim), injuries, either from war (which is preferable) or disabilities. Exactly one of the chief reasons Obama was chosen and groomed for the Presidency — it worked fabulously !!!!!
Oh how I wiish we could have required courses at school about liberal strategies, their ideology, history, etc. Like Rush says, if we were all aware of these things, lots more people would see their lies right off the bat and would be very helpful. I only learned of them these last few years b/c I woke up about the dangers to our country and started getting self-educated.
We need to keep trying to educate, spread the truth and vote for those that are constitutionalists, ethical, patriotic, brave, knowledgeable about the left’s strategies like this one and continue stating the truth, refusing to be intimidated.

I do, admittedly, have military blinders where I’ll typically give my brothers/sisters the benefit of the doubt because of our shared experiences, but Joe’s voting record is abismal with regards to our traditions as Americans. Otherwise the sites, obviously lib types, have made sure that any of her stump speeches are kept out. Only soft interviews such as Mr Ed (The Talking Horse’s Ass) Schultz’s truly softball interview of her. She started off praising fellow soldiers claiming she was not a hero but rather her fellow air crew who pulled her from the crash. Then she really went into total spin cycle regarding the VA, and Medicare.
Report Post »Yeah, to the lib trolls here who claim that Fox is soft on the Republicans, but you have to admit that ABC, CBS, NBC, BSNBC, Current (LOL) all not only give softball interviews to fellow libs. They constantly offer slobbering praise when their lips are not attached to their political heroes’ collective @$$es. Oh yeah, LOL. Ed Schultz excoriated Joe Walsh for never serving in the military while he has spent his entire adult life in broadcasting.
Warning to Walsh, you should take this as a learning experience and heed your own words about who is taping your speeches and using certain clips against you. If not, you deserve to lose.

Posted on July 7, 2012 at 9:14amI think Joe explained himself pretty good in the interview I saw on The Factor. What is not being said though is that the left use people with disabilities, race or gender in a way that they can come back on their political opponents who disagree with their philosophies. Instead of arguing the facts, they showcase their race, gender, disabilities and in this case military service, and then dare their opponents to disagree with them and make them out to be bad people for picking on the race, disability, gender or whatever, and ignore the facts of the real debate. In this case, Joe is up against a female, non-anglo, with disabilities from military service. She is sort of a ‘total package’. Never mind the facts of the real debate. The left and other non-thinkers think that this woman should be elected on appearances only. Not her philosophy of what America should be. This same tactic was use to get Obama elected. “Your racist if you don’t agree with Obama”. This tactic, (besides being petty), is the most “transparent” of all of the lefts policies.
