Rep. Larsen Aides Fired After Bragging About Drinking on the Job and Trashing Boss on Twitter

Not the smartest thing to do if you want to keep your job.

Democratic Congressman Rick Larsen fired three of his legislative aides Thursday after they went on a three-day drinking binge in the lawmaker’s office, destroyed government property, disparaged their boss and then if that were not bad enough, not so brightly bragged about it all on Twitter.

Roll Call brings us the gory details of the debauched aides’ three-day binge:

Legislative aides Seth Burroughs and Elizabeth Robbee and legislative correspondent Ben ByersCongressman Rick Larsen Fires Aides were terminated as a result of the Northwest Daily Marker story chronicling their baffling display of bureaucratic bravado. The article included screen grabs of since-deactivated Twitter posts in which Burroughs (@therocketship1) and Robbee (@betsysbites) openly banter back and forth about trashing a government-supplied Blackberry, taking shots of Jack Daniels at their desks and watching music videos on YouTube during work hours.

The feckless trio (Byers was @byers_remorse) also conspired to do as little as possible this month, dubbing their anti-work campaign “December to Remember.”

The Daily Marker story went live at 5 a.m. today. It was the talk of Twitter by noon. An hour later, their boss dropped the hammer.

The following statement was issued by the Washington congressman’s office:

“Congressman Larsen and his staff became aware of the issue concerning the three staff members at noon EST. We became aware of the issue through a tweet referencing an article about the incident. Congressman Larsen immediately decided to fire the three staff members involved in the incident. The staff members were dismissed at 1:10 p.m. EST.”

A “December to remember” indeed.

    Does anyone think that anyone in Washington actually works?
    For that matter, do you think 90% of government employees actually do anything?

    Government, for the most part, is a work program for the leftists. Period. Yes there is some actual things that government is necessary for, but not much.

    Heck, if you cannot get fired for shipping guns to drug dealers and laundering money for them, what else needs to be said?

    Ron Paul is right, you could cut $1 Trillion this year from the Federal government and not ONE of us in the private sector would even notice the difference.

    But Rep. Larsen IS an idiot. He is my representive, although I never voted for him, so I feel that I can say this. Maybe this is why I always get the partyline – not answers to my concerns when I sent him anything. But then, so do my senators. The boss hires, and gets people who feel like he does – or did. Hope we don’t rehire him next year.

      I couldn’t agree more. Larsen IS an idiot. I‘m also from the 2nd Congressional District in WA State and we’ve GOT to do better in the election process next year. Too bad we don’t get another shot at ousting Patty Murray too.

    I used to work at a place like that, where the bimbos in the front office spent virtually their whole day YouTubing vulgar videos, yakking on Facebook, shopping for cheap looking high heel shoes and bimbo outfits, and online dating. Whenever I asked them to do five minutes of real work, they looked at me like I was insane.

    So, I can sympathize with that poor Congressman, even if he is a Dummycrat. Good for him for having sense enough to fire ALL their butts!

    Of course, it raises the question: why did he hire stupid people like that in the first place?

    I know why the boss (not me) in that hideous place I left for greener pastures hired his bimbos: one of them was regularly polishing his…well, you know.
