Rep. Steve King: Right to Life is Important Lesson for All Ages

If you read the Huffington Post Monday, you’d think Rep. Steve King was traveling the country talking about abortion with kindergartners.  But HuffPo extrapolated the meaning behind an interview the congressman recently did with CNSNews.com in which he expressed his commitment to his anti-abortion stance when asked when Jesus Christ inherited his right to life.

“He got the right to life when God conceived Him in the womb of Mary, and it’s that simple and that plain and it’s that profound,” he said.  “Each one of us got the right to life at the instant of conception and we have that right to life until natural death.”

It wasn’t until King mentioned that he discusses his pro-life views with young people that HuffPo raised an eyebrow:

Interview transcript via CNSNews.com:

KING: I often go into a high school auditorium or meet with people at even the K-through-12 level in their entirety, and I will tell them: “You will be asked to answer one of the most profound moral questions of our age and that is where do you stand on the abortion issue. And you need to only ask and answer two questions. The first question is do you believe that human life is sacred in all of its forms. Is the person sitting to your left and to your right and everyone in this room, is their life sacred?” And they’ll nod their heads.

And then I’ll say: “Do you believe your life is sacred?” And they’ll nod their heads. And we have a universal agreement that the lives of the people in that auditorium are sacred in all their forms.

Then I simply ask them: “When did your life begin? And you have to pick an instant. And there’s only one instant and that is the instant of conception.

“In fact, if you want to argue that you really don’t know, that it might be the first, second or third trimester or viability, tell me: If someone were to walk down this hallway and stick a gun in the door, turn their head away from the gun and pull the trigger and run out the door and we catch him out there, did he kill somebody or didn’t he?”

And they’ll look at each other and say, “Well, we don’t know.”

But it isn’t good enough to say we don’t know. He won’t know either. But if somebody’s dead, he killed somebody. You cannot take a chance with life anymore than you can shoot a gun into a crowded room and take a chance that you might not kill somebody. You cannot guess about when life begins. You have to pick an instant. There’s only the instant of conception. And once you understand that human life is sacred in all of its forms and it begins at the instant of conception, you will never lose a debate and you’ll never lose your conviction.

Do you think Rep. King’s comments are controversial?  Is it a bad thing to emphasize the sanctity of life to young kids?

Iowa’s lone voice of consistent reason in our soon to be shrinking crew of congressmen. Thank you Rep. King!

This is so wonderful to hear. Our God given “unalienable rights” are LIFE, Liberty & The Pursuit of Happiness. It is convenient for the pro-death advocates to decide that life does not begin at conception. But it does. I wish that this unconstitutional & murderous bill had never been passed. I pray that God will forgive this country.

What is life anyway? On the cellular level it is considered ‘alive’ is it not? One can argue all day long on the human level when it becomes ‘alive’–three, six, nine months or birth. I personally believe ‘life’ begins at conception. It is a cellular life growing into a human, until delivered or aborted.

This is where ‘vegetarians’ get it wrong also. They somehow feel uncomfortable with killing an animal to nourish/sustain themselves, but yet it doesn’t bother them to kill a living plant!? Go figure. Just because it doesn‘t have eyes and make noises doesn’t make it non-living. Plants exhibit social behavior, have similar cellular structure as animals and need water, sunlight and nutrients (derived from soil) to flourish same as the animal, same as the human.

    What is life?

Imagine an ancient civilization that would kill the babies for the benefit of the society. What if our children learned about something like that in school? This is how the Right To Life people will be viewed in centuries to come. They will be portrayed as having no sanctity for life, as well they should.
Thank God King offers them a little common sense knowledge against the NEA indoctrinations.

how much, in dollars and cents, is a life worth?
what percentage of gdp should be expended to health care?
is it more noble to take life in pursuit of riches or to expend riches in support of life?

I agree. It is time to teach our children the basics of the meaning of life. It is refreshing to hear and needs to be said. Regardless of age we all have the right to live. It does bring up the contoversy of the death sentence. Do we then have the right to take a life of a human that committed murder himself? I am torn in that area, yet a part of me does support the death sentence. It is confusing and has caused a battle within me over the years. To take a life even in self defense must be difficult to live with, but what other choice would you have? Allot of our opponents of Christianity will use this against us. It is both interesting and confusing. It will continue to be debated and neither side will change their opinion.

Pamela Kay- When I have been confronted with that question, I simply tell the questioner that you cannot compare the life of an innocent baby to that of a convicted violent murderer.

It is absolutely essential that someone shine a light for these kids. They are being brought up in an anything goes world and the sooner they are exposed to a little morality the better.

No his comments are not controversial and it is not a bad thing to emphasize the sanctity of life to young kids. Someone please tell me how that is a bad thing.
