Rep. West Mocks Mandate: Let’s Force Everyone to Buy a Glock 9mm

While speaking at a campaign rally in Florida, Rep. Allen West (R-FL) mocked politicians who use taxation as a means of regulating behavior (the most recent example being the tax [not a penalty] on Americans who don’t want to participate in “Obamacare”).

“What will be next? If you don’t buy a certain type of green car, they will tax you. If you don’t buy a certain type of food, they will tax you,” Rep. West said.

“Well, I got a great idea: I believe for personal security, every American should have to go out and buy a Glock 9mm. And if you don’t do it, we’ll tax you. Now, I wonder how the liberals will feel about that one,” he added.

I got an idea JZS. How about you stop comparing apples to oranges. How about we let the hospitals say “if you don‘t have insurance you can’t come in here” Watch how fast people stop using the emergency room as a doctors office and how fast they get insurance instead of nails, weaves, tattoos, and spinner rims.

1.) Car insurance for everyone is not a mandate
2.) Car insurance is only for those that “choose” to drive
3.) Car insurance is controlled at the State Level
4.) Not carrying Car insurance because you “choose” not to drive does not have Big Daddy’s IRS thugs taxing you for doing nothing.

Now smoke that in your pie hole.

Healthcare went down the drain when government stuck its nose into it back in the 60′s. You can not separate payment and the recipient of the service. It’s called overuse. And, the unintended consequence, like all welfare, it spreads the seeds of irresponsibility, laziness, and division among those who pay and those who play.

      JZS,

Most people don‘t mind paying for car insurance for a death trap they roll around in becuase it’s affordable and competitive, when the president says he wants to nudge people to buy health insurance with a tax which will make it more affordable when the reason poeple don’t have health insurence is because A) they are an illegal immigrant or B) IT’S NOT AFFORDABLE, the health care plan make NO SENSE! Oh but I forgot, the president didn’t say that, he said it wasn’t a tax, so my mistake.

The only reason automobile insurance is required is TO PAY FOR THE OTHER GUY’S DAMAGE.

If you finance then your finance company will demand that you protect their investment with insurance. Your state may demand that you purchase LIABILITY insurance to cover damage you do to other motorists. As for damage you cause to your car, yourself, or your passengers its all up to you.

Sorry folks, the analogy is a good one. If someone hits your car, and they don’t have insurance, you have to pay for the other person’s failure to be responsible. Everyone recognizes that is not fair. The law recognizes that when someone is irresponsible, and it causes you damage, they owe you for the damages.

When people don’t have insurance and get sick, they are still able to get treatment, at least some. Reagan recognized this basic human and Christian value when he passed a law requiring hospitals to treat patients whether they can pay or not rather than just let them die it the waiting room (which some of you are fine with I realize). Of course somebody pays. That would be you in higher medical and insurance costs. Their irresponsibility causes you to pay more than you would have otherwise.

of COURSE the health care/insurance industry needs reform.
      nobody argues that…

but it is the INDUSTRY that needs monitored – not citizens.
Estimates say 7 out of 10 people in health care never SEE a patient – they are paper pushers.

Insurance companies are state monopolies – they have no competitors.
They can charge whatever they want.
And many people who REFUSE to work already get tooo much free stuff from US.
Insurance companies “donate” so much money to politicians that politicians
REFUSE to regulate inflated prices / inter-company price hikes and massive bonuses.

The only thing Obamacare does is give them all a bigger pie to slice up.

Until COSTS are controlled and competition is allowed, this garbage will only benefit
      stockholders, directors and politicians.

The analogy of car insurance doesn’t work unless you are saying we should give
      FREE insurance to uninsured motorists…

Is THAT what you want next?
When we all quit purchasing and get if free, what will THAT do to your taxes?

@JZS…Sorry, your comparison is STILL not valid, because you are only talking about people who actually own cars or drive. Most states do require you to have car insurance, btw or pay a fine (not a tax). In case you didn’t notice, the health care bill requires that ALL Americans pay into the health care system, whether they want to or not (this includes people who, for religious reasons or otherwise, choose not to ever use medical services). Well, except for the illegal immigrants of course…they still get theirs for free with no tax. Convenient.

JZS your car analogy is so bad on so many levels. No one is forcing u to drive r they? Obamacare is forcing you to buy insurance without even driving( getting sick). Car insurance companies “discriminate” against everyone Your age, your type of car, your history, etc…… Obamacare forces insurance companies to ignore indicators that the person is a terrible driver. The only reason you have car insurance is because you make choice to drive. Also driving has potential to directly affect someone else’s life. SO I’m forced to buy car insurance to protect other people NOT MYSELF. GET A CLUE

JZS, if you don’t drive, you don’t have to pay for car insurance. Mandated health insurance taxes based on living. Paying for wars is part of a direct tax that was prohibited by the original constitution. That was mandated by liberals, by the way. It is plain foolish that Obama and all his cronies denied, even to the Supreme Court that this was a tax. Now, it’s all ok so long as it IS a tax. Facts would probably help your whining and mockery a bit, but having dealt with liberals for my entire life, I know that is beyond the education level of most who feel that they have an abject right to the largesse of their more successful peers. Here’s a question, how much are YOU wiling to pay for Obamacare? I know, nobody who isn’t rich will have to pay anything, yet another example of liberal stupidity. You could take every penny of every person you consider rich and it wouldn’t come close to paying for even the national debt prior to even considering a plan that is guaranteed to bankrupt every American. You, like most liberals, probably don’t care about the results of what is being promised, only that it sounds good or make you feel superior knowing you have been so generous…with someone ELSE’S income. Banter, keep up the good work. I seriously doubt that JZS is capable of understanding any of our words, though.

You are not penalized for not having car insurance, if you don’t own a car. Don’t want to have car insurance? Don’t buy a car. Don’t drive a car. But with health care, you have no choice. you either kill yourself or buy health insurance. Now, if they decided to make everyone buy car insurance whether they bought a car or not, you’d have an argument. West is right. Now they can say, you can buy that SUV if you want, but we’re going to put a “luxery” tax on it. The only car you won’t be taxed for buying is a Volt or similar car. Just remember, liberals, if this stands and we get in office…….

Actually for healthcare it actually makes more sense to require everyone to purchase health insurance than it does for drivers to purchase car insurance. The healthcare insurance market is actually very unique, here’s why…

It’s quite common to have never had an accident in 15, 20, 25 years of driving. However it’s almost a virtual certainty that everyone will need some type of healthcare or a require a hospital visit.
Suppose you don’t have government insurance and you’re not insured by your employer and the individual policy market in the US essentially prices most people out. You develop some type of medical condition which involves very expensive medical treatments. This will of course be provided without regard to your ability to pay. These costs in turn are often transferred to other Americans.

This situation is unique to the healthcare insurance market and is not analogous to mandating that you purchase broccoli or a 9mm handgun.

Braindead, first, stop using text message abbreviations in your written communication. It’s not cute anymore. Smartphones have put those abbreviations out of business, not to mention keyboards.

In any case you’re right as far as I understand you. Nobody is “forcing” to drive a car in the sense that no armed soldier shows up at your door and forces you into your car under threat of death, makes you start your car and drive it. If that’s your definition of “force” then you are correct, that doesn’t happen. In the same vein nobody forces you to have electricity in your house, and nobody forces you to have water service. You can get water in a nearby creek or lake. And nobody “forces” you to buy food when there are roots and berries in a nearby park which you could survive on.

And nobody forces you to take your child to a doctor when they get sick. They’ll treat your child though, insurance or not. And who pays for that: I do. I’m “forced” to pay for that when raise my payment to cover what you can’t pay for your own child.

@ JZS: I hate when people from both side of this issue use the “ we are required to have car insurance” line… Here’s why:

      - Driving IS NOT a “RIGHT” ( unlike “speech”, “religion”, press”, (fire) “arms”, etc, etc…) but a PRIVILEGE. Driving is a privilege granted by the State, therefore they (the State) can impose rules and restrictions for the activity of driving – If you drive on a government owned ( public) road.

      — You DO NOT need car insurance on a car if you own out right (no lien against it)… So long as you don’t drive your vehicle on a public (State maintained) road. Once you do enter a “public” road the State requires you to have car insurance AND a drivers license.
      ————————– AND of course ——————————
      — Your bank requires insurance to protect THEIR investment, as long as you owe money on a financed vehicle, part of your contract with the lien holder is insurance…
      ————————- Long Story Short —————————-
      - You can own, operate, and drive a vehicle on private property w/o insurance – or a drivers license for that matter…

West for VP. I don’t particularly like the mandate, but it is NOT the reason I don’t like Obamacare. It is the other 2600 pages of personally intrusive and large bureaucracy creating parts of Obamacare that make it seriously flawed and destructive legislation. The mandate is an irritant but it is definitely not the worst part of Obama’s terrible health care bill. JZS- purchasing car insurance guarantees me access to a car repair facility if I need it. Purchasing Obamacare insurance doesn’t create more doctors or hospitals or nurses so I may have an insurance card but be completely unable to see a doctor or check into a hospital because they are overloaded with patients. Obamacare is really a mandate for SUBSTANDARD medical care. The health care system can not support 30 million new patients and maintain the same quality of care. I don’t mind paying for someone to go to an emergency room the way it is now. There is no federal bureaucracy expense, there is no IRS agent chasing me down to expect payment and it is much cheaper to continue as we are than to pay for this giant mind numbing and bureaucratically ineffective legislation which is Obamacare.

JZS, not everyone has to have car insurance, only those who choose to own a car. Even then the state, not the federal government, requires only liability insurance. Anything beyond that is a requirement of the finance company for their protection, which you can avoid by paying cash, or the owners personal decision. Not everyone is paying for the wars. For instance, illegals who get benefits but don’t pay taxes, low income citizens who don’t pay taxes, and others who through legal or illegal means avoid paying taxes.

I’m sure you could come up with a better and more approprtiate example than you have. Try again.

You may be on to something (more likely just “on something”). And for people who don’t have cars? Do they have to buy insurance even tho‘ they don’t have a car, or should they be coerced into buying a car too. I mean, using progressive logic, “sooner or later everyone’s going to go somewhere”.

Just saw a political ad regarding Obama’s new tax for middle class and the poor – requiring people to purchase health insurance. The IRS will be collecting the tax for those who do not have health care. They say it will be a tax of approximately 700/year if you don’t purchase. What they don’t tell you is that it will be heck of lot more if the IRS is collecting. You can expect to pay the tax, plus outrageous financial penalties in the form of interest and fines that the IRS will heap on top of the $700. If the Republicans in D.C., had any brains they would aggressively pursue putting out there the amount of interest and financial penalities that will easily make that $700 tax become $2,000 per individual. If we want to get this country moving ahead we need to redo the tax code. The IRS reminds me of the old Mafia loan sharks who add outrageous fines if they are not paid off. Same thing. Check out it readers.

interest and late fees don’t happen as long as you pay the tax ON TIME.
They will most likely deduct it straight from your refund or “correct” your return – for those
who don’t get a refund – and bill you for the extra.
As long as you pay that immediately there shouldn’t be ADDITIONAL fees.

Don’t get me wrong – I HATE this crap – but late fees are only if you are LATE.

Then again, apparently they can put anything they WANT in writing and get away with it…

Sorry about the Canada Goose jumping into the fray, but s/he has been paying for “FREE” health services in Canada for so long s/he doesn’t remember it is totally supported by taxes. In Ontario it is OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). It was implemented as OMSIP (Ontario Medical Services Insurance Plan) in 1966, replaced by OHSIP (Ontario Health Services Insurance Plan) and finally called OHIP in 1972. As you can see we have been at his for a very long time. Wiki has a pretty good write up at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario_Health_Insurance_Plan but left out the fact the birth control was originally covered and was stopped early on. The article does not note that there is a severe shortage of doctors in Ontario. Americans should fight this thing with all they have, the taxes will drive your economy into the ground.

      Freedom is Dead.

      Roberts killed it.

The govt may now tax you a million dollars a year to own that gun – as long as you have a choice.
They can tax all of your property away from you.
They can tax your free speech into silence.
They can tax your religion into submission.
They can tax your movement until they lock you up in jail.

This is the farthest reaching decision in American history.
It gives the fed govt the right to coerce you into any behavior it wants.

    I propose the following:

The Home Defense Act of 2012

Be it that all citizens of military age are eligible for call up by their state at times to defend the state they are required to do the following.
All will “provide himself” with a rifle no less than 5.56 mm in caliber with detachable magazine of semi automatic capability with a serviceable bayonet all of which must be kept in good repair. A standard load of not less than three hundred rounds and ten magazines will be kept along with a suitable carrying system fit for duty. A secondary weapon (semi-automatic sidearm) no less than 9mm in caliber with four loaded magazines and an appropriate holster shall be procured and maintained.

Monthly marksmanship training will be done at militiaman’s expense, all ammunition to be rotated by range use yearly.

Failure to comply with this legally passed legislation will be taxed at a yearly rate of the fair market value of required equipment.

If someone were to drop a massive EMP mid-country, everything electronic and electrical from coast to coast would be fried. We would be exposed like a turtle out of its shell. Everyone else in the world still needs to know that they would be staring down the iron sights of a totally armed populace.

For all of our history before 1945 and even for a time after that, we considered ourselves a “nation of rifleman”. Maybe it would be smart and even necessary to get back to our ‘roots’… :)

Well in Switzerland, every adult male citizen is required to own, and know how to use, an assault rifle.

You wonder why countries avoid invading Switzerland?

We could call it the “Duty to bear arms” act…Every adult citizen (regardless of gender) will be taxed unless they own and openly carry (Over the shoulder or in a holster) a firearm of some kind. Especially when traveling on airplanes. Attempted hijackers wouldn’t last 2 seconds.

The reality is … I’ve studied Marxist insurgency. It was part of my training. And the things I know that have been done in every Marxist insurgency are being done in America today.”

      Term limits!

      House – 3 terms
      Senate – 2 terms
      V-P – 2 terms (no Putin)

Pay – as an O-6 w/20 yrs of service. Billet them in senior officer housing in the DC metro area (build more if needed). Give them IDs that allow access to services that our men and women use, incl DoD schools for the kids.

No retirement unless you fulfill all 5 Congressional terms. Then retirement is whatever an O-6 w/20 gets.

Time to remind them they work for us and are public SERVANTS not overlords. Plus — it may get rid of lots of lawyers who only know how to argue but not get anything else of use done.

      files,
Junk, eh? 100 years ago the 1911 was “high tech” and it still is. It’s the standard by which all other defensive pistols are judged and the basis for nearly every successful pistol design since. It can be anything from a very basic pistol to an extremely accurate and reliable racegun. Our own special forces types have “re adopted” the 1911 because nothing else works as well and holds up in actual combat.
