Report: American Teacher Shot by Al Qaeda-Linked Militants in Yemen

Two militants shot and killed an American teacher in Yemen early Sunday, an attack for which Al Qaeda is claiming responsibility, according to Reuters.

The gunmen rode up on a motorcycle and gunned down English language teacher Joel Shrun in his car in the central Yemeni city of Taiz, a regional governor told the Associated Press. Officials at the Swedish Institute — a language school where Shrun was also deputy director — identified him as the victim and said he was born in 1983.

The assailants escaped after the attack. A police source told Reuters they are believed to be linked to Al Qaeda.

In a text message sent to local media outlets, the group claimed Shrun was spreading Christianity and said he was one of the biggest missionaries in Yemen, CNN reported.

“This operation comes as a response to the campaign of Christian proselytizing that the West has launched against Muslims,” the message reportedly said.

The U.S. Embassy in the capital of Sanaa told CNN it had heard reports of an American death and was investigating, though did not confirm an American had been killed.

    According to my sources, Shrun was chosen because his family name is a play on the American speechwriter — Shrum. The reason for that allusion remains to be seen. The Swedish school Shrun worked for does not permit proselytizing, although that is a serious issue in many countries for foreign teachers.

    Ah, the religion of peace strikes again! The point that Libs and Lefties refuse to embrace is radical Islam DOES NOT want to convert us to this great and grandious religion–they simply want to kill us! While I believe that Joel Shrun is a Jew and therefore had a second strike against him in Islam’s eye, nevertheless he is just one of hundreds/thousands who will meet the same fate.

    Let‘s start with the Muslim proselytizing that is a part of life in this country but sane people don’t speak with guns.
    If he was proselytizing then he is a martyr and has a special place at the throne of God.
    There are two spirits in the world. The Spirit of the Living God and the spirit of satan. I can see by default what spirit spoke in Yemen.

    Why is it when an American is gunned down by Al Qaeda it’s

    “killed by militants”

    but when a Muslim is gunned down by an American it’s

    “citizens murdered by American”

    Seems to me this was a citizen MURDERED by TERRORISTS, not ‘killed’ by militants.

I, too, find this typically released on a Friday and unmentioned in Obama’s Lap Dog media, executive order ( this president apparently doesn‘t need to follow the constitution’s balance of power mandates : he demonizes “ the do nothing congress” which he has to side step in his frequent “ crises” AND he trashes the SCOTUS for giving fund raising abilities to those “ nasty capitalist corporations ” as well as his beloved – in his pocket – UNIONS ! ) Think the Obama Far Left Administration is getting ready for the SEIU / union mob backed Occupies of this spring ??       I did note the “in peacetime” comments. Yet, I think the admin will still need a justification which is likely the real intent behind the Occupy crowd. Once Occupy turns predictably violent, it will give the admin exactly what they need to implement.

      That’s just a minor revision of the executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by President Clinton, which was just a minor revision of the executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by President Reagan, and so on back to the first executive order on National Defense Resources Preparedness signed by FDR in 1939. If you don’t believe me, just look up the Clinton and Reagan executive orders which are revoked in section 803. In other words, this is a normal part of every President’s job that just seems sinister to paranoids who see everything that President Obama does part of some vast and overarching evil conspiracy.
