Report: Anti-Semitism Is ‘Disturbingly High’ In Europe

A new poll released from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Tuesday found “disturbingly high” rates of anti-Semitism in 10 European countries. The opinion survey, which took into account 5,000 adults’ views (500 in each country) on a variety of issues, found that large portions of Europe embrace “classical anti-Semitic notions.”

The ADL reports that these “notions” include a belief in the idea that Jews have too much power in the business world and are more loyal to the Israeli homeland than their own country of residence. Additionally, the poll found that many of the respondents believe that Jews speak too much about what happened during the Holocaust.

In a report called “Attitudes Toward Jews in Ten European Countries,” the results, which were collected from Jan. 2-31, are fully explained. According to the ADL, these anti-Semitic beliefs are held by nearly one-third of respondents. The countries included in the study were: Austria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The results for the “Jews are more loyal to Israel than to this country” question can be seen, below:

Among respondents in Hungary, 73 percent answered that it is “probably true” that “Jews have too much power in the business world.” The proportion for Spain was 60 percent. While this indicator has decreased in some countries, it is up in the United Kingdom (20 percent in 2012 versus 15 percent in 2009) and has ticked up slightly in Germany (22 percent in 2012 versus 21 percent in 2009).

There were also some intriguing results when individuals were asked to weigh on on whether Jews have too much power in international financial markets. According to the findings, 75 percent of Hungarian respondents said that this is “probably true” as did 67 percent of Spaniards. The lowest proportion was in the Netherlands (17 percent).

“The survey is disturbing by the fact that anti-Semitism remains at high levels across the continent and infects many Europeans at a much higher level than we see here in the United States,” explained Abraham H. Foxman, ADL’s National Director.  ”In Hungary, Spain and Poland the numbers for anti-Semitic attitudes are literally off-the-charts and demand a serious response from political, civic and religious leaders.”

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 4.43 and +/- 4.85, depending on each country. Read the entire study here.

    I’m calling BS. The questions they show in the graphics are really vague and has NOTHING to do with anti-semitism. Anti-semitism is hating Jewish people. You can actually like Jewish people and still believe that they are both more loyal to Israel and have too much power in international finance markets. I have a aunt that is jewish. She has gone to Israel to volunteer a couple of times. I don’t think she volunteers over here in the US where she lives, but she sure is loyal to Israel. Does that mean I hate her? No, I actually like her.

    This is a lot like the poverty statistics reports in the US. They define them really loosely and then can make attention grabbing headlines. This is what is going on here. The Anit-defamation league only can exist if people are hating people, so they create a report that overstates it as proof they are still needed.

      You’re Jewish aunt, I‘m sure she’s religious because being Jewish is a religion. What’s her ethnicity? Is she Polish? Is she Romanian? Is she French? Is she Russian? Of course, she’s the same ethnicity as a Polish Christian if she is a Polish Jew because they have the same ethnicity. They’re both Polish.

      The thing is, you can‘t explain why it’s absurd. No one in the history of the world can prove my point wrong. It’s an impossibility. You’ll never find any one the rest of your life to prove what I said is wrong. You can’t prove that 1 + 1 is not two because it is. French people have an “ethnicity.       Actually, since Jews have married internally for generations, they have distinct genetic markers that reflect that fact. Also, by that argument, there are no Germans or French because they are both genetically Western European. Or better yet, we‘re all human and have human DNA so race doesn’t exist. Most Austrians are technically German. Jews define themselves as a nation with their own culture and heritage. Race has littler to do with it.

      Religious Jews HAVEN’T married internally for generations. Half the Jews in the USA are mixed. Jews are NOT an ethnicity. Being German and French, is.

      By your logic, their is a Jewish Ethnicity, right? If that’s true, then are Ethiopian Jews and French Jews the same? Do they have the same DNA? No, they don’t. So being Jewish is only a religion.

      and it is a nation defined by that covenant with G-d from Sinai more than 3300 years ago. It is a nation with multiple genetic codes, but a common belief. The world can be unified under G-d’s unchallenged rule. Ultimately Mankind will have to realize that the only covenant with G-d that matters is the one that teaches Man with reason planted firmly in its seat, Man is obliged to live by a humble code of common decency. Judaism itself is deeper than that. It contains many more laws than G-d’s laws of common decency, but only Jews are obligated in Jewish Laws (like the Sabbath and the kosher laws and shaking the 4 species during the Feast of Tabernacles). Those laws lead to the perfection of the world, the completion of the very act of Creation itself. Yet, for Mankind in general it is not Jewish law which is demanded by G-d. It is His covenant of common decency (7 basic categories of law related to decency) that He sealed with Noah after the Great Flood, but it can be derived by studying Nature and postulating Nature’s G-d. If Thomas Jefferson could figure that out, perhaps every man is obliged to figure it out too. Yet, it is that precise requirement that G-d demands decency for its own sake over everything else that has created the deepest, most universal, and longest lasting hatred in human history: Anti-Semitism Agents of evil will not stand to being obligated in the area of human decency above everything else.

      Ok, my point is that Jews of a certain ethnicity are the same as a Christians of the same ethnicity. If you’re a white Russian Jew, you’re ethnicity is Russian. This would mean that a white Russian Christian would have the same ethnicity.

      Amazingly wrong, amazingly illiterate, amazingly unsupported by facts.
      Jews born in Poland, Romania, Russia, Mozambique or on the South Pole (which I doubt is possible -:)) are Jews, if they are really Jews (meaning that their parents are Jews.)
      A different story is with half-blood Jews, quarter-blood Jews etc.
      Jews are of Semitic descent, just as Arabs. And the members of the Semitic group have their specific DNA. That’s why they are distinguishable Semitic group, comprendes?
      That’s why those who dislike Jews are ambiguously called anti-Semites. (“ambiguously” because Arabs are also Semites.)
      With your B.S. statement that “Being Jewish is just a religion,” you automatically call almost half of Israelis who are not religious, “not Jews”. Huh?

      Actually CONSTANTINE IVANOV, I have a friend that lived in Israel and he said that half the Israeli‘s AREN’T religious. They‘re secular Israeli’s.

      If Jews are their own people, why aren’t they called, Jewish Jews? Instead of Russian Jews or Romanian Jews?

      Also Jews did NOT come from the middle East. At least not the Ashkenazi Jewish religion. It goes against science. It’s an impossibility. Every one that came from the middle of the earth is dark. Just like the Africans. Jews that you are talking about are NOT dark. European Jews are NOT dark. It’s impossible for them to come from the middle east. Did white people all of sudden appear in the middle of the earth when there were all dark people?

    So far I’ve met nobody who would be willing to take a look at this problem from a completely different standpoint:
    Antisemitism may be conducive to intensifying of the process of Jewish repatriation, emigration to Israel.
    The more Jews are in Israel, the less likely might be the danger of Israel destruction by Muslim radicals.
    I am wondering why the ADL, as far as I know, does actually nothing to encourage Jews of all countries to tenant the Promised Land. The age-old dream of all Jews would come true, and antisemitism might then disappear, who knows…

      I have never commented on one article more than this, but I see anti-Semitism as the ultimate expression of pure evil. And I am fascinated by the war between good and evil. Yes, when (not if) Obuzzard is re-elected, evil in America will increase by orders of magnitude. And the 60 to 70% of spiritually ignorant Jews who voted for Obuzzard a second time within a year will not be able to tolerate the massive rise of anti-Semitism in America. But if the dollar has already crashed by that time, they may end up running away to Israel with their pajamas in a plastic bag. The guilded cage is so very difficult to leave.

    I vacationed in Europe last year, and I made a point to ask residents in my travels how they feel about racism and if they dislike any other ethnic groups…

    Almost everyone agreed that racism was bad except they had one ethnicity for which they justified their intense dislike, and it was always their immediate neighbors (different in each place I visited) which might make some sense actually.

    The Irish think racism is stupid, except for those Scottish
    The English think racism is stupid except for those Irish
    The French think racism is stupid except for those Italians
    The Czechs think racism is stupid except for those Polish
    The Danish think racism is stupid except for those Swedish

    I stayed for several months and it became quite a joke for me, especially being from America where everything is black and white…I can’t even tell the difference between a Czech and and Pole, but they sure can tell the difference between each other.

    Once I was standing outside talking to a couple of French girls and an Italian couple walked up. They seemed like nice people, the same age as us. As soon as they approached, one French girl said, “shhh, Italians…we go inside”

    I mean that‘s worse than the most viscous racists I’ve seen in America . She didn’t even want to share the stoop with them.

      Yes, but as someone else below has pointed out, the countries with the worst anti-Semitism are not the post-Christian societies like France and Great Britain with their large Muslim populations. The two of the three worst countries are the traditionally Catholic countries of Spain and Poland. Even Hungary has a majority Catholic population with very few claiming to be atheists. Neither Spain, Poland, or Hungary have a large Muslim population. So it has to be admitted as it has always been true. European Christians, albeit mostly Catholics, hate Jews. Perhaps these Christians, again mostly Catholics, do not elevate common decency as a main tenet of their faith?? Hitler’s first international treaty was the Concordat with the Roman Catholic Church. Nothing has changed.

      The Four Power Pact was actually signed about the same time as the Concordat with the Catholic Church was signed, both in July of 1933, and was not a treaty of much import. As a matter of fact the French refused to sign it.

      One has to believe that all of these different cultures and nations have come to the same incorrect conclusion regarding one ethnic group. The indifferent facts tell us that there must be something inherently wrong with the behavior of this one ethnic group. How else could so many peoples, from so many different backgrounds, and throughout so many different generations in history, all come to the same conclusion?
      Who’s wrong, the whole world or the one ethnic group in that world? Other than America, what other nation is Israel’s friend? Why?

What starts out as mistrust for one generation then turns to suspicion, then to dislike, then to loathing. There’s nothing rational about antisemitism Jerk. You may be familiar with historical events but you are hopelessly ignorant of how people thought centuries ago.       Abraham Foxman still refuses to recognize that his nemesis nowadays are not white Christians, but Muslim activists who despise Jews and will kill them at every opportunity as we have just seen in France.

      Anti-Semitism is up in Europe, because the population of Muslims has reached points of inundation.

      Looks like the last joke is on old Banana Nose Abe, because his unethical push for the inundation of Western societies for multiculturalism could well mean that the Jews residing there will be forced to move.

      Robert If Muslim populations were the reason for the rise in antisemitism, the rise wouldn’t be more than 10%. Muslims populations in Hungary and Spain are almost negligible. Face the simple fact that its ethnic christian populations that are resenting Jews.

      TZION you criticize the Europeans for collectively hating the Jews but have no problems when they collectively hate Muslims. Its pretty chic to hate Muslims in the western world based on their acts of terror. Is this entirely irrational? I don’t think so. I think Muslims have to face the sad fact that too many of them participate in terrorist activities and don’t assimilate into western societies and thus will be collectively resented by many. When it comes to Jews however, we are supposed to give them a pass for everything they have done and continue to do and not collectively hate them. Why the inconsistency? The SS and more specifically the Einsatzgruppen had no difficulty whatsoever in finding people in Poland, Romania, Lithuwania, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Norway to help kill Jews- no trouble at all. When the Nazi answer to the “problem”was deportation who stepped up to the plate and revised immigration policy to accept more European Jews? America? No! Roosevelt refused to allow large scale immigration of Jews and in fact we only allowed 21,000 Jews to come here- LESS THAN SWITZERLAND! The world is to blame for the holocaust.       CatB – It is already happening in the US. President Obama is on tape saying we have more mosques and are probably the largest Muslim country in the world. As far as Europe is concerned, my question is, have they not progressed in their thinking or learned anything from the past? I guess the World War made no difference to them. All that said, I guess it made no difference to our present administration and President as they are pushing Socialism/Communism on us and no one seems to stop them.
