Gunman Kills Two National Guardsmen, Wounds 6 Others at Nevada IHOP

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) – A gunman with a rifle opened fire at an IHOP restaurant in Nevada’s capital on Tuesday, wounding six people and himself and killing two uniformed National Guardsmen in a hail of gunfire during the morning breakfast hour, authorities and witnesses said.
A third person was killed in addition to the servicemembers, and the gunman was not expected to survive, said Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the gunman had any connection with the military or the guard, said Nevada National Guard Sgt. Mike Getten. He said guard members were meeting at the restaurant.
Witnesses said a man pulled up in a blue minivan around 9 a.m. at the IHOP restaurant in a strip mall on Carson City’s main street. He shot a man on a motorcycle, then walked inside the restaurant and started shooting, said Ralph Swagler, owner of Locals Barbecue in the same strip mall as the IHOP.
Swagler told the Reno Gazette-Journal that after several minutes, the man walked outside and began firing into the Locals Barbecue and an H&R Block in the strip mall.
“This happens in third-world countries, not here,” Swagler said.
Fran Hunter, who works at a Sierra Le Bone, a pet shop just north of the IHOP, told the newspaper that the suspect fired at least two shots toward Casino Fandango across the street.
“I don‘t know what’s happening to my city,” Hunter said. “This happens in L.A. or Las Vegas but not here.”
Local and state police and FBI agents descended on the scene, and yellow tape surrounded the parking lot at the restaurant, which is near a Kohl’s department store.
Renown Regional Medicare Center spokesman Dan Davis told The Associated Press four victims of the shooting were being treated at the hospital in Reno, but he said he could not discuss their condition or provide any other information.
Kurt Althof, public relations manager for Care Flight, told the Gazette-Journal three victims had been taken to the hospital by helicopter and that two were in critical condition.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen says extra security measures have been put in place on state and military buildings in northern Nevada as a safety precaution.

The FBI’s Nevada office has confirmed that seven people were shot inside of a Carson City, Nevada, IHOP. Currently, authorities believe that there was only one shooter involved in the incident. The Record Courier has more:
[Seven] people have been shot by a suspect reportedly carrying a semi-automatic weapon at the Carson City International House of Pancakes.
Details of the situation are still developing, but the suspect has been reported as “down”.
The shooting happened just before 9 a.m. At least four helicopters have been called to the scene. Medical and law enforcement personnel are still evaluating the scene.

KTVN.com is reporting that the shooter may be “down.” The Associated Press has more details:
[Sheriff Kenny Furlong] says multiple people were wounded, including the shooter. He says the person who authorities believe to be the shooter has been transported to a hospital “and is probably going to die.”

As I read this article, all I kept thinking was “What about the shooter?“ ”I want to know who he is, whats his name and where is he from?” I know the story is still developing but if the sheepdogs are to react and protect the sheep, more info on the threat is what the public needs.

Hell, I only carry if I have a good reason. My state believes in the ‘Prudent Man’ theory, and I am a prudent man.

Being a third world country has almost exclusively to do with rulers and lack of resources.
The fact they are a third world country means they do not have the money to spend on dining out, therefore, ihop (and other restaurants) choose not to locate there.
Your lack of understanding of the most basic of economic principles, is indicative of your socialist democrat ideology and thorough misunderstanding of cause-and-effect relationships.
Let me explain it to you –
A lack of IHOPS do not cause poverty.
A lack of poverty causes a lack of IHOPS.

Have your weapon in your purse or handy in a jacket next to you or in your lap.
Always stay alert and watch the driveway if possible. If someone suspicious enters, prepare for the worst. Have a plate ready to throw or coffee cups or knives. Loose chairs can also be used for protection or weapons.
I know you all are prepared and will protect yourselves and others in harms way. Don’t let law enforcement tell you not to be a hero. That mentality is PC BS. You’re not a hero, you‘re a mean SOB who won’t take this treatment anymore. At least I am.
