Report Claims Taxpayers on Hook for Occupy D.C. Porta Potties

Taxpayers Foot Bill for Occupy D.C. Dons Johns Porta Potties

American taxpayers are on the hook for trillions. Now add to that the cost of police protection and roughly another $2100 for 17 bright blue “Don’s Johns” porta potties — installed glaringly close to the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial — to provide D.C. Occupiers latrines other than the kind to which many of them have grown accustomed.

According to a U.S. News report:

For today’s protest, where several hundred Occupiers toting signs lingered in the muddy grass of the Capitol Grounds, over two dozen U.S. Capitol Police were assigned to ring the lawn, most on foot, some on bikes, and others in 18 cars, buses, and trucks counted by Whispers.

Plus, the government rented 17 bright blue potties from Don’s Johns, which were parked across from the Capitol Grounds and in the shadow of the Ulysses S. Grant Memorial.

The Architect of the Capitol‘s office wouldn’t comment on the costs or protection.

But Don’s Johns told Whispers that renting 17 potties costs about $2,100.

A miffed Capitol Police officer told us, “I can‘t believe we’re paying for this. But they have no money. They were complaining about parking prices.”

According to officials, Occupiers’ attempts to set up tents the way they have been in McPhearson Square, were immediately quashed by police.

U.S. News adds that protesters set up a medic unit and photography perch, while others sold buttons that read “Black Power” and “Occupy Wall Street.”

How stupid can the gov’t get, they should have required the “occupy” nit wits pay UP FRONT for the portable crappers! They should have been smarter than this, the taxpayers should not pay for the rent, take it out of the gov‘t agency that made the mistake’s “employee bonus” pool until they have paid for the crapppers. That way they will learn the hard way to make these guys pay in advance. It is not rocket science, just plain ol’ common sense.

ExRep…..protesting is covered by the 1st amendment. Period. But it’s not up to the tax payers to foot the bill if you want to stand around all day. Any costs associated with your lazy ass “loitering” should be paid for by your own self.

“They have no money. They were complaining about parking prices.”
You mean, they own vehicles and can afford to drive, and can afford restaurant-cooked or delivered food, and iPhones and iPads and Internet access and a monthly cell phone service WITH data plans…
BUT cannot afford to pitch in $2 for a potty so they don’t crap on the lawn like a bunch of wild animals.

I think that is what it should have said. LOL

      @exrep…
My chosen form of protest is to fly from country to country in a private jet, spreading the word by lavish living. Of course I don’t have any money, either. I only have a home and a truck and a plane. Have you seen hangar rental prices lately?!? As I was saying. I’ll send you the bill.

Until you are open minded enough to discuss FACTS then you are doomed to a life of snide rebuttals which are childish at best as they do not support your opinions or beliefs, lacking a basis in fact and logic.

We’ve read about the OWS and their ability to fund raise and the creation of bank accounts that are to be used for “the cause”. Question is, does anyone have the rocks, or the brains to go after these cache’s in court. Answer is, not anywhere protests are being held where the dems are in control. They would much rather you pay for it. Kinda like the unions….

We are already paying for the top 1% tax cuts.
We are already paing for our roads, bridges, schools thish are sued by the top 1% (as well as the 99%).
We are already paying for the salaries and expenses of the Republican DO NOTHING Congress.

Hello Blazemeisters- I read an article that really made me stop and do some thinking. While Dems and Republicans bash each other on the cause of lost jobs, reduced, benefits etc I found this article very informative and it really helped me see that there are some unknown causes for the job losses that our country is facing. Rather you are Democrat or Republican this article is a must read. The article is “The dumbest idea in the world, maximizing shareholder value”. I thought this would be ab article about , well, anything other than what it actually is. It starts out using football (as an analogy) but goes on to explain why so many companies are laying off people, reducing benefits etc. It has nothing to do with laying off due to the economy. It has to do with a new business model that large corporations have been using for quite a few years now and this business model has caused our bad economy, reduced wages and benefits etc. I was shocked to read this. It has taken years for this behacior to catch up with us and actually do the damage that it has done to our country. God help us. We can complain about politicians all we want but the bottom line is, if we allow this to continue we will never have enough jobs or a living wage.
Please read this article. Google “The dumbest idea in the world, maximizing shareholder value”. It is 4 pages but as with most web sites there is alot of advertising etc on the pages so it doesn’t really take that much time to read. Let me know

Guess the gov’t was tired of the OWS crowd pooping on their vehicles or where ever they might be at that particular moment. What makes them think these lazy do-nothings will move their behinds to a porta-potty?

If they think this will quelch the stinking mess that’s typically left behind during their protests, think again. Clean-up typically runs into the thousands for these purveyors of filth, and will continue to cost the taxpayers (aka the “other” 99%).
