Report: Ex-Gov. Mark Sanford Engaged to Argentinian Girlfriend

Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has reportedly proposed to his longtime Argentinian girlfriend, the woman with whom he had an affair and made him synonymous with the phrase, “hiking the Appalachian Trail.”

Argentinian newspaper Clarin reported Sanford and Maria Belen Chapur “became engaged last Wednesday, at noon, in the Palermo restaurant Bella Italia Grill,” according to Columbia, S.C. newspaper The State.

Sanford reportedly put the ring in a bag and gave it to one of the waiters, telling them to make up a story while he hid in the bathroom. When Chapur arrived, the waiter told her she’d won a “prize” for being the 100th customer. When she found the ring, Sanford appeared and asked her to marry him.

“What followed was a long moment of kisses, tears and emotions. There were heartfelt words and promises of eternity,” Clarin reported, according to The State.

Sanford famously “disappeared” for six days in June 2009, with his staff saying the two-term Republican governor was hiking the Appalachian Trail. Sanford later acknowledged he had been with Chapur and resigned from office in disgrace. He and his wife Jenny divorced in 2010.

Sanford joined Fox News as a commentator last year.

I hope they’ll be happy. Sorry his first marriage didn’t work out. Sometimes that happens, people stop working at it. Sorry he handled it the way he did, but He obviously flipped for this woman and I hope his ex wife gets to flip for someone too and they all are very happy. I’ll leave the judgment to Jesus!!
Life is SO SHORT ! Women do much better in marriage when they are women and not career managers; campaign managers; ‘partners’ or bosses. Men do much better when they protect the women in their lives and respect; nurture and be the MAN. :) Romney and Ann are a great couple and it looks like Paul and his wife Ryan are too!! It appears that these folks have got their roles right and their priorities!

While Akins “stepped on it”, there are real reasons why ripping a live baby apart in the womb prior to and during “extraction” should be recognized for the holocaust it is. Like the Germans in the neighborhoods claimed they didn’t know what was happening behind the walls of the concentration camps, people who support abortion often don’t have a clue as to what actually happens in the room where the “extraction” takes place.

Promises of eternity? Really? I’m guessing there were “promises of eternity” with wife #1 too. What were they worth? Nothing! Really, Maria Belen Chapur, he cheated on his first wife to be with you. How long will it be before he cheats on you? Are you ever going to be sure he is not seeing someone else? How are you going to live with that doubt?

As they move on with their lives leaving behind the wreckage for his ex-wife and children, I really don’t care to hear about or from either of them. Fox News: I really don’t care to hear his opinion about anything. I’ll keep my mute button handy, thank you.

America is a Christian Nation? I‘ll tell you why you aren’t if this is truly “The Blaze”, and it’s even evident in the divorce rate.
Mark 6:14 And King Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
15 Others said, That it is Elias. And others said, That it is a Prophet, or as one of the Prophets.
16 But when Herod heard thereof, he said, it is John, whom I beheaded: he is risen from the dead.
17 For Herod himself had sent forth and laid hold upon John, and bound him in prison for Hero’dias sake, his brother Phil’-ip’s wife: for he had married her.
18 For John had said unto Herod, It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother’s wife.
It is written that the Lord brought Eve to Adam. It is also written that when the Kingdom comes that people will not marry, or give in marriage, but be as the Angels in Heaven. Because God brings forth a wife to men. Therefore most Americans live in a constant state of adultery, with illegitimate child.

He may have done some good things for the economy but so did Hitler in Germany before he started killing jews, handicapped, gays, and whoever else didn’t fit his mold. Really, the guy had bad character and was truly horrible to his family and now he is nobody, leave him out of the news. please!

Barney Frank had a prostitution ring ran out of his house.

Gordon Liddy called the wife of one of the Watergate people a whore. The husband of the whore took him to court & then lost of backed off. That same husband in now a Democrat. There are more than enough Democrats & Republicans who are johns. The press tends to single out the Republicans.

But let’s not be asymmetric here. Lets have wikileaks or anonymous publish the black books of madams in big cities around the country.

Haley’s election had nothing to do with Sanford.

      voiceofreason
Haley didn’t do anything wrong. She went last year and Sanford went during his term as well. Taxpayers paid for her security as they are suppose to and she paid for the rest. Heard that from her mouth Thursday and widely reported in our state so STOP SMEARING MY GOVERNOR! By the way her husband deploys to Afghanistan later this year.

And yes, Barrett would have won without the Tea Party. Not just support but simply it’s existence. She has kicked the “good ‘ol Boys” square in the rocks as they deserve it. They are as bad as progressives.

As for Sanford, he will return to politics, I am certain of this.

The article is wrong. He finished out his second term with as much dignity as he could muster. He never resigned nor was he impeached. He however reduced my taxes and cleared up a fiasco created by the previous Democratic governor, Hodges (Affectionately? known as “Goober”). He also started the fiscally responsible stance of sleeping in his office in Washington, and showering in the Gymnasium, instead of sticking South Carolinians with large “food and lodging” bills. While we all agree that marital infidelity is not a trait that should be admired, it never seemed to do Bill Clinton any real harm. At least Mark Sanford admitted his indiscretion. Bill Clinton lied, not only to the American people, but to Congress.

Sure she can talk a good game but i don;t see how she is any better than his wife. Who has a bachelors degree worked as an investment banker, manged his political campaigns & bore him 4 children.
Sure Chapur is exotic, since she is from a different country. But heck if he had married her 1st than his ex would have seemed exotic. the whole soul mate thing is bogus she is just a good talker & different than his wife.

I found this disturbing on the part of the USAF as well as Mark Sanford.

“In 2003, just after becoming governor, Sanford joined the Air Force Reserve and attended two week’s training in Alabama with his unit, the 315th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron.”

At 43 he joins the Air Force Reserve with no prior service? The military treats politician reservists with kid gloves. Crying shame.
