Report: Five Anarchists Arrested for Allegedly Trying to Blow Up a Cleveland-Area Bridge, Had Similar Attacks Planned in Chicago

The FBI has arrested five individuals described as “anarchists” after they allegedly conspired to blow up a Cleveland-area bridge, and wage similar attacks in Chicago in coordination with the upcoming NATO summit.

The group– at least three members of which are self-declared anarchists, according to authorities– decided to bomb the Route 82 Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge with C-4 as their first attack, after considering a number of other plots.

“After the Ohio attacks,” ABC writes, “the men would focus on waging similar assaults in Chicago during the upcoming NATO summit, according to FBI Special Agent Ryan Taylor…the five anarchists wanted body armor, helmets and gas masks to wear in Chicago, which was ‘the main place they were worried about having the protective gear because there is no telling what they might have to use there.’” [Emphasis added]

Suspect Douglas Wright is quoted by the FBI as predicting that a “s–t load” of anarchists would go to Chicago after leaving the Cleveland area “a pile of rubble and ashes,“ as anarchists in every major city throughout the country will ultimately be ”rioting and destroying each city.” [Emphasis added]

A written statement on the case elaborates that Douglas L. Wright, Brandon L. Baxter, and Anthony Hayne were arrested by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force on charges of conspiracy and attempted use of explosive materials to damage physical property affecting interstate commerce.  Charges against Connor C. Stevens, and Joshua S. Stafford are pending.

While the violent plot may not be officially related to Occupy Wall Street’s “May Day” plans, a quick search of the suspects’ Facebook pages shows that at least two of the individuals describe themselves as having worked at “Occupy Cleveland.”

Moreover, their names have shown up in various news reports in connection to the Occupy movement.  Anthony Hayne is pictured in a Lakewood Patch article holding a sign saying, “We Are Still Here #Occupy Cleveland,” and Brandon Baxter makes his opinion known in this Cleveland.com report (and here’s a picture of him from “Captured Cleveland,” a site that claims to capture Cleveland through photographs).

In an NYPD memo, police note that the Occupy movement embraces “diversity of tactics,” so that, presumably, certain factions can be more “disruptive” while others remain moderately presentable, though The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the suspects did complain to authorities that “Occupy” was not violent enough.

While the group is “intent on using violence to express their ideological views,” in the words of the Special Agent in charge of the Cleveland division of the FBI, authorities insist that there was never any danger to the public, as the group was under close surveillance.

“The defendants took specific and defined actions to further a terrorist plot,” U.S. Attorney Dettelbach commented. “The defendants stand charged based not upon any words or beliefs they might espouse, but based upon their own plans and actions.”

    Of course if they were, the out cry to string them up would be defending.
    As it is, they will probably get a slap on the wrist and told not to do that again.

      In any case my real point is this. Next time you complain about the TSA searching you, and say they should only search people that look Arabic, remember these guys. They are white as can be, and if they shaved and put a suit on, would look normal enough to get on an airplane with explosives in their underwear. These are exactly the type that the bad guys could talk into doing it too.

      No, despite the opinion piece, Occupy isn’t about anarchism, it’s protest of the Republican effort to redistribute the wealth of the country away from the poor and middle class upward to the richest. In other words, to flip you and me the bird and make the rich ever richer, at the expense of everyone else.

      Anyway, you really have to read multiple news services to get the whole picture. I sometimes read the BBC for example. Here’s an article about Rupert Murdoch, owner of FOX news, and the ethical violations of his company. He is “unfit” to run a company because of his lack of morality according to members of Parliament:

      @jzs There have been plenty of Marxist and anarchist material passed around by attendees of the Occupy movement. Their intent is to start disorder or revolution. The fact that you haven‘t noticed or realized that shows that maybe you’re not reading much news. BTW, profiling does NOT mean singling out a person just because of their appearance. It means actually INVESTIGATING someone that looks and acts suspicious, or may fit a certain criteria, in which chances are that the subject is a potential terrorist or criminal. Casinos, Wal-marts, banks, ETC. do this all the time. Heck, if you enter a hotel and start acting a bit out of the ordinary, you’ll have about two guards locate you, follow you, confront you, look into the matter, and eventually, if found to be a real nuisance or threat, escort you out of the building. They do not body search 6 year old girls and frivolous notions, or 13 year old handicap kids with their parents going to Disney. They actually use common sense.

      The anarchist movement will get increasingly violent as they gain more ground. Unlike communists, current anarchists haven’t reformed, possibly because they never seized power and failed like the communists. Thus, although they want to do away with constitutional governance, they don’t exactly subscribe to neo-communism/state capitalism either. They want all means of production in the hands of unions/workers:

      I do not get any of my news from FOX. I do not watch news, and very rarely do I ever visit their website. I read various sources, and get as much of my news from the Huffington Post as anywhere else. I am fully aware that Rupert Murdoch is under investigation, and has been for a while.

      If on the battlefield, I get the choice to sit in one of two meetings, either the daily report from my own staff, or to listen to the update from the enemy, I will take the enemy. I am fully capable of filtering out the leftist crap.

      colt1860, good post about “profiling” in the context of what the Israelis do as opposed to what is done in the US at airports. Yes, they’ve had great success with it and, in principle something like that could be done in the US without “profiling” based on ethnicity, which the courts have decided is unconstitutional under the fourth and fourteenth amendment (funny how readily the Tea Party would throw out the Constitution).

      In principle, although not in actual practice. As I understand it, you are given a brief interview when you drive into an Israeli airport. Then, each and every passenger is interviewed, sometimes for a short time, sometimes longer. They throw rapid fire questions at you and watch your response (I have experienced how that works myself overseas – they try to rattle you).

      The Israels can give each person individual attention (twice) because they don’t have that many people traveling in and out by plane. The US must have literally thousands more people traveling than Israel. US airports would basically crawl to a stop if you tried to interview each and every traveler like they do there. Ever been to a busy airport?

      The TSA isn’t stupid believe it or not. The stupid idea is that we could simply copy what Israel does. It’s impractical.

      I was about to say the same thing. We all know there is boatloads of evidence showing the FBI/Al-CIA-da goes and picks people of various backgrounds (the unassuming), offers them $10k+ to do “a job,” then uses them as public fodder to fund the TPTB ultimate plans.

      I’m honestly more surprised Al-CIA-da didn’t go through with the bombings to really give the public a stir. I don’t want that at all, quite the opposite, but you have to wonder. I mean, it’s strange that since 9/11 NOTHING has happened here in the US to constitute the creation and implementation of the USA Patriot Act, yet the government repeatedly beats it into our skulls that we are in real danger, and they need to monitor every facet of our lives. It’s for the children you know…

A link to a David Plouffe interview whereby Plouffe is trying to sell the idea that it was Bush admin that initiated the Loan Guarantee programme for any company wishing to apply, ergo Bush gave Solyndra the loan guarantee during his administration. Nevermind the fact that the Bush administration actually turned Solyndra‘s application down citing Solyndra’s shaky business models. Never mind the fact that Obama and Stephen Chu fasttracked the loan in 2009, ignoring every credible analyst’s advice and predictions about Solyndra. Nevermind the fact that to add insult to injury, Chu subordinated the loans so that Obama’s bundler could save his $75 million investment in Solyndra while the tax payer got left on the hook. In short…JZS couldn’t offer any actual loan being approved by the Bush admin to Solyndra..he offered a David Plouffe interview (Obama’s campaign advisor) in instead of any actual record of a loan.       The Blaze article is misleading. These terrorists didn’t just conspire. They actually tried to detonate the bombs. Apparently, they were all at an Occupy protest when they were reported for their violent remarks. Under Barack Obama earnings have dropped significantly. Obama promised to create 5 million new “green” jobs during the campaign. Where are they?
      But back to your pointless point earlier…you claim the republicans seek to lower the earnings of the poor and the middle class and fill the coffers of the rich corporations. Inferring of course that big business is in bed with the republicans (oooh..scary). So taking your assertion to it’s logical conclusion (“logical” in the most guarded sense in your case). You and your fellow lefty travellers are trying to sell the idea that in a consumer based economy (that capitalism OWS hates and proclaims is evil), the repubicans are trying to make it harder for consumers to buy and utilize the products of the very companies who rely on consumers having the disposable captial to buy their services and goods.       What makes a person seek differing views and devote years of their life and thousands of post to harassing and putting others down?

      JZS is not the first one to devote his adult life to this type of cause. JZS has adopted the go to tactic of gay bashers who single out gay bars as targets of abuse most likely stemming from some type of pent up personal shortcomings.

      Like gay bashers, JZS is not physically capable of letting those with different views have those views in peace, free from his harassment. JZS believes those who hold opposing views are either stupid, uneducated, hillbilly, or have some type of dysfunction that impedes that person from agreeing with him. That level of arrogance allows him to believe that you either agree with him or your an idiot.

      Like the gay bashers, he knows imposing his views on others won’t changes the minds of those he attacks but receives satisfaction in the abuse he delivers. Tolerance is not a principle he subscribes to.

      That would be your best bet. History has shown JZS cannot follow even the simplest of illustrations.

      A clear example of someone not grasping simple ideas is how JZS can vilify tax cuts for the top bracket while simultaneously wanting to keep current tax rates for everyone else. Unless he is under the impression that the bush tax cuts only applied to the top bracket. He has in fact made statements more ignorant than that.

      I would settle for an explanation of how raising taxes would help the economy.

So the line you want us to buy JZS is that the repubilcans and big business want people to have less money to spend on the very same goods and services these companies offer and by earning less, don’t pay federal taxes either.     I would not be surprised to hear that George Zimmerman helped George Bush try to do the bridge and that Trevon Martin had helped Obama kill Bin Ladin. Seems there are those who are trying to make and change their own history. These crazies are capable of doing or saying anything and if it is reported by the leftist propagandists, then they will believe it.

    Don’t worry folks, the war on terror is over, nothing to see here. The one thing that worries me most is some day these idiots might succeed, I‘d call the fact that we haven’t had a major attack on U.S. soil since 9/11 luck more then the government doing it’s job better. But that’s just me.

      What would you call it when an FBI informant has been involved with every alleged “homegrown terrorist” plot in the US since 9/11?

      The government is cooking these things up. These are just stupid kids that got led into criminal activity by an FBI informant.

    Well that ends what could have been the best years of their lives instead they will go to prison and evil will be with evil. Their parents must be so proud (not if they were good parents).

    Have the young citizens ever thought about their future or what their future children would think of them for being evil. I doubt it but praise to the youngster that lead a good loving way of life and make the best life has to offer them. love not hate…. good not evil … Life is short and Eternity is forever.
